This shows how important a brightly coloured tow float and swimming hat is for increased visibility and safety when swimming in the open water, especially in a busy river like the Deben and with even a slight chop or waves. It would be almost impossible for a kayaker, SUPer or sailor to see someone swimming flat in the water otherwise.

This is an important message. Even experienced open water swimmers can experience cold water shock in the summer, especially if it’s a warm sunny day and the water is still cold, maiming the contrast in temperatures greater.
