'Breathe for me, breathe for my baby'

This was the affirmation that most resonated with me during both my labours. It's such a powerful thing to know that if you can regulate your breathing that will translate to your baby. Breathing is everything!

I repeated this affirmation over and over in my head, when my son's head was crowning but labour had slowed down. I made the decision (with the help of my husband) that it was right to have some help at this point, and along with my techniques, this affirmation got me through. (My full story is on the website!)

So affirmations aren't just wishy washy quotes that don't do anything! Find the ones that most resonate with you and put them up around the home. Then keep looking at them! Are there any that you particularly like?

βœ¨οΈπŸ’œ New Group Hypnobirthing Courses! πŸ’œβœ¨οΈ

I'm so excited to be launching small group hypnobirthing courses in September! πŸ₯° For some time I have taught privately, which I absolutely LOVE, as I really get to know my clients and can tailor the course to their individual circumstances - so I am deliberately keeping the group size small to allow for that individual approach, and to give you plenty of time to ask questions! It's important to me that you feel supported all the way through to the birth, so all my clients can get in touch after the course for help and information.

I'll be hosting the classes at the lovely Bursledon Village Hall, an Edwardian building set in peaceful surroundings. The course will be taught over 4 sessions of 2.5hrs each. Refreshments included πŸ’œ

πŸ’— As a special introductory group price, the full 10 hour course is Β£175 for you and your birth partner. As I'm keeping the groups small, get in touch sooner rather than later! You can secure your spot with a Β£50 deposit too! πŸ’—

If you want to feel confident, calm and informed about birth, whilst making local friends in the same position, then get in touch - you can DM or email me 😊✨️

So looking forward to our upcoming retreat!! πŸ˜ŠπŸ’œ We have a new date of 20th October, it's going to be a beautiful day for you to take time and space during your pregnancy πŸ₯°

Pregnant or know someone that is? Stop scrolling and consider booking onto our retreat ❀️

Pregnancy is such an incredible time, but we often forget to slow down, to rest, to pay homage to the beautiful journey of growing a human. Whether it's your first, second, or fourth baby, this day is a beautiful way to honour your pregnancy. Feeling great? A little bit rubbish or even anxious? This retreat will aim to help you feel calmer and more prepared.

Katie of is dedicated to helping parents feel empowered and informed through pregnancy, labour, and beyond and will be running a group hypnobirthing workshop on the day. Katie has also been volunteering as a qualified ABM (Association of Breastfeeding Mothers) Mother Supporter at her local breastfeeding support group since 2017, so she is a fantastic person to know.

Antonia of is passionate about helping parents to feel calmer and more connected to themselves and their children. She teaches mindfulness and creative workshops and has been running retreats for mothers since 2021. Antonia will be taking you through a guided meditation and creating a safe space to share, listen, and connect. Antonia will also facilitate a craft workshop to create a keepsake to put in your baby's nursery or to use as a birth announcement or even a gift from the baby to a sibling.

We will also be joined by the wonderful Octavia of .life_ who will be teaching a pregnancy pilates and pelvic heath workshop. Plus, she will be giving all attendees a free month to her wonderful app that's packed full of pre and post natal fitness, advice, and more.

Join us in the 20th of October at the beautiful in Wickham ❀️

On Father's Day, I'm sharing this lovely photo of my husband cradling our eldest not long after he was born ❀

Ceri was an amazing support for me during my 13 hours of active labour, both in a physical sense (I was holding on to him whilst labouring standing up!) and emotionally. Because he knew how important my breathing was, he helped me regain control of it at a time when my adrenaline started to creep up. He also stepped in to protect my space when I needed to make a decision to be augmented. During both my labour's, Ceri also thoroughly enjoyed having his hand crushed during particularly strong contractions!

So here's to all the fathers, and partners, and parents to be today. Thinking of those who no longer have their Dad, or have a difficult relationship with their Dad, and those who are yearning to be a father too πŸ’—

This is why I do what I do πŸ˜ŠπŸ’—βœ¨οΈ

Recently finished teaching a lovely couple expecting their first baby, words they associated with birth at the start of the course...swipe right to see where their heads were at by the end!! πŸ₯°

Seeing the difference in my clients mindset over the duration that I teach them will never get old! 😁

They are in a much better place now to navigate whatever happens in their birth experience, and they know they can get in touch at any point for my support.

How would you like to feel like this about birth?!

This month, you can meet me in person at Parent & Baby at Places Leisure Eastleigh Pregnancy Evening this coming Thursday, or find me at John Lewis Southampton for their All Things Baby event, Saturday 15th πŸ₯° I cannot wait to chat all things birth with you then! πŸ’—

🌜✨️ New Positive Birth Story! βœ¨οΈπŸŒ›

Charlie's birth is such a wonderful story! πŸ₯°
When I met these lovely clients, Kate explained that she was epileptic. However, this had been well managed for some time, and during her pregnancy, there had been no complications. We looked into all of the options, and Kate & Jake then spoke to the consultant midwife who agreed access to a pool for labour and birth πŸ˜ŠπŸ’œ

I also especially love the part where Kate tuned in to those instincts and tried out positions before her waters released! Just amazing ❀️ And what a fantastic birth partner in Jake, setting up the environment and keeping Kate focused on her breathing techniques 😊

Thank you so much for sharing Kate & Jake! 😊✨️

If you'd like to write your own positive birth story, get in touch sooner rather than later as the summer months tend to be busy! πŸ˜…

Thought it was about time for an intro! πŸ’œ I'm Katie, mum to two small humans (who keep me very busy!). I'm a qualified Hypnobirthing Instructor, Breastfeeding peer supporter, and local Maternity Voices Partnership volunteer based in Bursledon, South Hampshire, and I absolutely love supporting families at one of the biggest transitions in their lives πŸ₯°

For me, hypnobirthing was intrinsic to having two incredible, positive birth experiences. My goal now is to help support and guide my clients towards their own positive experience, whatever that looks like for them. I'm a no-nonsense instructor who has done extra training in consent, birth rights, biomechanics, and supporting LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent families to ensure my practice is as inclusive as possible. Whatever you are planning, a homebirth, Caesarean birth, midwife led birth, or a freebirth - I respect that and tailor my courses accordingly. You'll find zero judgement or agenda here.

I have an 'advocate' personality, and this means I will go the extra mile to find out the info that's going to help your unique circumstances (I actually quite enjoy this!). I'm always available to my clients after the course has finished for further support or questions.

When I'm not geeking out about birth or breastfeeding (or running around after my two munchkins!), you'll find me crafting, spending time in nature, and eating cake. Oh, and I love anything to do with space πŸš€βœ¨οΈ

(PS - No bluebells were harmed in the making of this photo!)

I'm always up for a chat if you have questions or want to find out more πŸ˜ŠπŸ’œ

A heartfelt 'Thank You' to each and everyone of my lovely clients that has taken time to leave me a Google review! πŸ˜ŠπŸ’œ Here's my latest review from my lovely clients, Rhia & Andy. For a small business, it really means the world. Leaving a course review helps me get found by more folk I can help! Word of mouth and testimonials are super important in building up a local business, and it makes me so happy that my clients feel happy to write 5* course reviews!

40 reviews might not seem like a lot to some people, but I'm going to celebrate each one, as I care that you feel like my courses have helped you approach childbirth in a far more confident and positive way. Of course I love sharing your positive birth stories too! (you can find them over on my website) Thank You! πŸ’œ

Those approx 9-10 months can feel a long time, right?! It's very common for my clients who are approaching their "guess date" to say comments such as 'We just want them here now'...or even 'I'm fed up of waiting!'

I also think mentally something happens in the third trimester too. Up to this point, there has been an acceptance of the process, of the incredible work you've been doing building a small human! Then we get to the latter stages, and because we can see the finishing line, the waiting becomes very difficult (a bit like when you're approaching annual leave from work!)

If this causes unnecessary stress, then we can actually end up sabotaging the start of labour! Stress inhibits the release of oxytocin and we really want to be as relaxed as possible to give our bodies the best chance of spontaneously starting labour (within the 5 week window of when most babies turn up, which is 37 - 42 weeks. Forget the 'guess date')

To all my clients who are nearing the end of their pregnancies - keep breathing, keep practicing with your hypnosis tracks, and you know where I am if you need me πŸ’œ

On our recent trip to Cornwall and the Eden Project, I came across this beautiful artwork by
Rebecca D. Harris. The baby is depicted as being in a completely sterile environment in the uterus (this is not strictly true, as the mother or birthing parent is developing the babies gut microbiome as they develop in utero), whilst the mother has trillions of different microbes on and in her body.

The microbiome is fascinating. I used to think it was just referring to the gut, intestines etc., but have since learned that the microbiome is the living microbes that exist on, in, and even around your body (you have a small cloud of unique microbiota following you around!)

The microbiome (unsurprisingly) is influenced by a lot of variables, such as environment, diet, a Caesarean birth etc. The microbiome is also influenced by breastfeeding. Breastfeeding introduces nutrients to the babies gut that feed the good microbes developing there after birth. Amazing stuff! If you want to geek out about this more, then look up the work of Toni Harman.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! πŸ₯° Here's some things on your to do list:

πŸ’œ Think about the nursery
πŸ’œ Buy some adorable clothes (that they will grow out of super fast)
πŸ’œ Spend a small fortune on a travel system
πŸ’œ Have a 'heated debate' about baby names
πŸ’œAnd er...actually think about giving birth?! πŸ™ˆ

If you havent yet contemplated what happens at the end of 9 or so months, then join me on my free online Hypnobirthing Taster session to find out more about how this type of antenatal education could help you give birth (And it will help your birth partner to not feel like a spare wheel too, rather than just eating all your labour snacks!)

✨️As a thank you for joining me, you'll also get 10% off the price of the Complete Programme when you book!✨️

To join, just pop me an email on [email protected], or via the Contact form on my website. You'll also find testimonials and positive birth stories on there too! πŸ’—

We hold so much tension in our bodies without being consciously aware of it. I know I do! It's only when I focus on my breathing that I become aware of it, and then relax enough to let that tension go. I love it in my sessions where my couples start off with their shoulders up "round their ears", and then by the end of the hypnosis they have melted down into the sofa πŸ˜‚πŸ’—

This is something for birth partners to be aware of - if there is tension in the shoulders and jaw especially, that will translate further into the body. Have you ever laughed so much you've wet yourself?! There's a link there! Those two areas of your body are connected, so we want everything nice and loose and relaxed during birth.

17/03/2024

At the breastfeeding group where I volunteer, inevitably the subject of sleep comes up pretty frequently! What is right for one family will differ to the next - but what IS known, is that babies (whether intentionally or unintentionally) do often end up in the parental bed.

Safer Sleep Week is to help normalise and promote safer bed sharing and sleeping practices, some great accounts to follow for more information are

unicef_uk

The NHS has only recently amended advice to reflect the reality that a lot of parents will at some point bed share with their babies. If you observe these key points below, it's actually safer to bedshare than accidentally falling asleep holding your baby whilst sitting upright on an armchair or sofa - the risk of SIDS increases by as much as 50% in this instance.

➑️Never bedshare if you or your partner have been drinking, using drugs or drowsy medication or if you are smokers
➑️Do not bedshare if your baby was born prematurely
➑️Ensure baby is on a firm, flat sleeping surface
➑️Ensure all soft bedding is well away from babies head and they are not able to wriggle down under the covers
➑️Ensure your baby does not get too hot or cold
➑️Ensure that your baby cannot get trapped or wedged between the mattress and the wall or fall out of the bed
➑️Breastfeeding is protective against SIDS. Research has shown that breastfeeding mothers rouse at similar times to their babies.

If you choose not to bedshare, or it's not appropriate for your family, then a separate sleeping surface such as a Moses basket/cot is recommended, in the same room as you for the first 6 months at least. Did you bedshare? Let me know in the comments.

Today I completed my training on supporting neurodivergent people in birth; it was such an insightful and useful workshop with Victoria at Neurodivergent Birth

15-20% of the population (who are diagnosed, the reality is a lot more people are undiagnosed) are neurodivergent, we learnt lots of strategies and adjustments to help support ND folk during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
I'm looking forward to incorporating this learning into my courses!

The birth of Heavenly Hypnobirthing

Hi, I’m Katie, I live with my husband and two hypnobirthed babes in Bursledon near Southampton. I’m dedicated to helping women feel empowered and informed through pregnancy, birth and beyond.

I decided this was my calling after giving birth twice using hypnobirthing techniques to stay calm and in control. On the day after giving birth to my eldest, I declared to my husband that β€˜I’d do that all again tomorrow!’ I felt that hypnobirthing had given me the tools to have an overwhelmingly positive experience. Birth is utterly transformative and has a profound impact on a woman for the rest of her life. Feeling that your birth experience has ultimately been a positive one will stay with you forever, and helping women to achieve this is my goal, whatever route labour takes. After successfully using hypnobirthing again with the birth of my daughter, I knew I wanted to help mothers feel as empowered as I did after giving birth.

I like to thoroughly do my homework and read up a lot about a given subject. I think it’s important to know that my decisions are based on concrete, evidence based reasoning. Far from being something β€˜away with the fairies’, hypnobirthing is based on scientific principles and will give you an understanding of how your mind and body work when in labour.

I also volunteer as a qualified ABM Mother Supporter at my local breastfeeding support group, where I love to help support mums in the community with infant feeding.
