Offering Merishia massage therapy & Kinesiology Taping and for equines in Bucks and surrounding areas

I'm Jacqui; I am a fully qualified Equine Merishia Massage & Kinesiology Tape Therapist working in a 40 mile/1 hour's radius of Stokenchurch, Bucks (HP14). I treat horses of all ages, breeds, sizes, shapes... Massage can help horses heal from physical and emotional injury and is generally particularly beneficial as part of a tailored, holistic, regular, ongoing treatment plan.

Oh and you can meet Geoffrey - although the dog is unsure of him he's very nice really!!

On the 30th I will be at (Horses, Hounds & Heroes) event

I will be collaborating with a few other therapists to host a stand for people to come and find out more about the many benefits of equine massage therapy and it's various modalities.

A chance for owners and guardians of equines to find out more, test their own knowledge of horse anatomy, and discuss whether massage is the right thing for them and their animals.

15/06/2024

Anyone I know coming to this? Let me know below 👇 if you are so I can look out for you on the day as I'll be on a stand with some colleagues❤️ come say'hi'! 👋

12/06/2024

Really looking forward to this! Me and some other therapists will be manning a stand to give people a chance to come and chat all things animal massage and find out more about how/why/when/if... For those who can get to Bucks on Sunday 30th then definitely come along! It's a bloody lovely day and the Home Of Rest for Horses in Speen is SO NICE it's worth it just to see that and say hi to the hosses (and as ex-working animals they are mostly biiiig hosses 😊❤️ with the odd tiddler thrown in for good measure!). Watch this space for more news on this!

Some lovely shots from last week's straightness training CPD.

Another day of CPD 📖🤓 Added an string to my ever increasing bow! Got a plan for a little project that I might do to see the impact (or not! Am open to being wrong...) on how holistic equine therapies I've been training in might benefit nervous and anxious horses and positively impact their general behaviour. ☺️ Watch this space for news on that!

Ok. It didn't start well, but actually I managed 3 (yes, 1.2.3) hacks during NOT rain. Pretty impressive I think, considering.... ☂️🌧️💧

Happy to all my sistas working hard in the equine industry.

It's a privilege to be in such a female-dominated environment; I've met some brilliant humans whilst on this journey - a big thanks to them for the cheerleading and advice.

It's not easy running a little business and trying to have a positive impact, but it's such a relief to have people sharing your boat, bringing their own oars and buckets ready to help bail out if needed!

Horses die because they ate dog poo bags thrown into their field 03/03/2024

This story popped up on Facebook this morning. It's certainly something I have never heard of, and most of the dog owners I know would never dream of intentionally ditching their poo bags, but it's a stark reminder that we all need to 'leave nothing behind' in order to ensure that we can share our world safely with each other, and our beloved pets/animals/wildlife.

Sharing for Jen Mason in case anyone I know might be suitable and keen...

This will suit someone caring and reliable who is not 'all about riding' but enjoys the own-a-pony experience - in return they will get some seriously good horsey-time with an absolute dude of a Welsh cob (bags of character and plenty of countryside adventures await the right person/ people).

Location = not far from Grt Missenden, Bucks.

Guess I should be glad the worst I've got to deal with is a day of poo picking, some poached fields and the odd speedy cyclists to scare the bejeezus out of my steed!

The Horse Manure Problem of 1894
The 15 to 30 pounds of manure produced daily by each beast multiplied by the 150,000+ horses in New York city resulted in more than three million pounds of horse manure per day that somehow needed to be disposed of. That’s not to mention the daily 40,000 gallons of horse urine.
In other words, cities reeked. As Morris says, the “stench was omnipresent.” Here are some fun bits from his article:
Urban streets were minefields that needed to be navigated with the greatest care. “Crossing sweepers” stood on street corners; for a fee they would clear a path through the mire for pedestrians. Wet weather turned the streets into swamps and rivers of muck, but dry weather brought little improvement; the manure turned to dust, which was then whipped up by the wind, choking pedestrians and coating buildings. . . even when it had been removed from the streets the manure piled up faster than it could be disposed of . . . early in the century farmers were happy to pay good money for the manure, by the end of the 1800s stable owners had to pay to have it carted off. As a result of this glut . . . vacant lots in cities across America became piled high with manure; in New York these sometimes rose to forty and even sixty feet.
We need to remind ourselves that horse manure is an ideal breeding ground for flies, which spread disease. Morris reports that deadly outbreaks of typhoid and “infant diarrheal diseases can be traced to spikes in the fly population.”
Comparing fatalities associated with horse-related accidents in 1916 Chicago versus automobile accidents in 1997, he concludes that people were killed nearly seven times more often back in the good old days. The reasons for this are straightforward: . . horse-drawn vehicles have an engine with a mind of its own. The skittishness of horses added a dangerous level of unpredictability to nineteenth-century transportation. This was particularly true in a bustling urban environment, full of surprises that could shock and spook the animals. Horses often stampeded, but a more common danger came from horses kicking, biting, or trampling bystanders. Children were particularly at risk.
Falls, injuries, and maltreatment also took a toll on the horses themselves. Data cited by Morris indicates that, in 1880, more than 3 dozen dead horses were cleared from New York streets each day (nearly 15,000 a year).

My husband's first "horse walk" (😂🤦‍♀️🫣) with me and my gorgeous Carri - a grey and damp day but brightened considerably by having a spot of good company for our wee plod. Happy Saturday one and all! .mod

Lovely session with this lil lady today. Only a youngster but retired sound from the race track and now living her best life in a new home. She took to her treatment really nicely - and started to mutually groom my face (which was not particularly helpful but totally cute 😍....)

Mildly regretting having read The Fog now... Feel like I'm heading into the abyss!

What an interesting approach to weaving behaviour! Love it. Not seen anyone try to train weaving out before but am fascinated to know it can be done. ❤️🙏 Rootin for ya, Dream!

Yesterday was a big day. It's been a year without my Dad. Today was for reflection and mindfulness. I had the most beautiful weather and some wonderful company in the form of Poppy and Carri. Thank you ladies, so good for my soul to have a girls day and just take the world in at your lovely ploddy pace. ❤️🐴

To ride or not to ride.... 🫤 Seems likely I'll be headed back to bed.

Enjoyed this shot because it was just before he engaged teeth and suddenly I was not as amused by the nuzzling... 😂 we've all been there, right?

Schnooooozey! 😴💤 Good to know your making their day better even if it's only in releasing so much tension that they drop off! 😂

Last week I did some more to keep developing new skills and expanding my understanding and my practice.

Taught by the fabulous , I had a fascinating 2 x days of learning about Visceral & Cranial restrictions (and release!)

It blew my teeny mind a bit 🧠🤯 but it's so clear what a wonderful addition to my current skills set this is going to be. So excited about the potential application implications ☺️

We even physically recreated the organ positions - it was a bit like interpretative dance 😂 but it genuinely worked! (And the video was v amusing; I'll share it soon!)

19/10/2023

Amazingly made it through day 1 of my visceral & cranial sacral therapy CPD! 🧠 hurts now but it's was cool and so interesting to (literally and figuratively!) go deeper into treatment options. Very excited to try some things out on willing guinea pigs now - and really looking forward to the cranial sacral but tomorrow! Just need to get some sleep tonight to ensure I can be the proverbial sponge 😂

Also... how cute is this guy! 😛
