We are raising money for Luca a little boy on our caseload who has recently been diagnosed with cancer of the brain and spine. Luca has been receiving chemotherapy and is the most brave and inspiring little boy.

This raffle has been set up to provide some financial support to Luca’s two loving parents whose brave son Luca has received the news no parents want to hear. Lauren is currently at University and Joe often has to work away, so any money raised will allow them to spend more time with Luca while they continue this fight as a family.

Our lovely Jackie all ready for her first More Than Words session 🌼 Jackie is our Hanen-certified Speech and Language Therapist and we are so very lucky to have her to run this amazing Program for our families.

More Than Words is an incredible therapy Program to support Parents of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder or social communication and language difficulties. It is ideal for Parents of children aged 6 and under.

The Program will help to support your child’s interaction skills, attention and listening skills, social communication, play skills, understanding and expressive language development. It consists of a combination of Parent training sessions, child sessions and a pre-program assessment with your child.

We are so excited to announce our Stay and Play sessions are starting the week commencing the 28th February🌼

We are so excited to welcome you to our brand new clinic where we will be providing stay and play sessions for any child with communication difficulties, social communication delay or any child who needs an extra boost with their confidence socially.

Here’s the important bits...

🌼Age range: 1-5 years.

🌼5 stay and play sessions: £40 with a 6th session for free. You can use these sessions any time within a 12 month period although we hope we will see you more frequently than that.

🌼An amazing opportunity for your child to develop their play, social and language skills whilst meeting other Parents for support.

🌼Duration: one hour. Come to as many stay and play sessions during the week.

🌼Our sessions are run by our Early Years Teacher and Clinical Speech Therapist Assistant Georgie who can’t wait to meet you all!

🌼Every month we will be joined by a Speech and Language Therapist/Occupational Therapist/Early Years Specialist for an informal advice session, to help provide support for your little ones whilst they are maybe waiting to be seen by the NHS/ on our own private waiting list.

🌼Our play sessions will be themed and our stay and play consists of: soft play, sensory play, role and imaginary play, play to support your child’s cognition, play to develop their language and social communication skills and also fine/gross motor skills.

🌼BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL to ensure our stay and play is not crowded and your child has plenty of space to play and explore.

We are running Elklan Let’s Talk with your baby groups.

🌼Babies must be between 3-12 months.
🌼Duration: 6 weeks.
🌼Booking: essential.
🌼Start date: November 2021.

The groups are to develop early communication skills that will provide good foundations for learning to talk. Plus it’s a lovely opportunity to meet other Parents and babies and ask our Therapy team any questions you have regarding early communication.

The groups will focus on:

**PLEASE READ**

This is Mighty Max. Max is 4 years old and has a rare brain tumour called an Ependymoma. Max has had multiple surgeries on his brain in his little life, nothing anyone should ever have to go to never mind a little boy like Max. He is currently undergoing Radiotherapy and his Radio Oncologist has given this treatment a 20% success rate. To increase Max’s chance of beating this horrendous disease a more targeted treatment is required to fix the mutation in his genes and unfortunately this comes at a massive cost to his Parents. Max’s story hits particularly close to home as he is a member of our lovely Office Manager Laura’s family.

Mighty Max is a brave, heroic little boy who has faced so much already in his four years. Please dig deep for this very worthy cause, let’s all pull together we can do this!

🌼We are running Early Talk Boost language groups in Clinic from the first week in October for 9 weeks.

🌼The group will be two times per week and will be led by two specialist Speech and Language Therapists.

🌼This intervention is perfect for children aged 3-4 years old with language delay and aims to narrow the gap between them and their peers by six months.

🌼Early Talk Boost supports:
• Attention and listening as a foundation skill for speaking and listening.
• Developing vocabulary; as research shows that children with weaker vocabularies are at risk of difficulties with reading.
• Building sentences; putting words together is a vital skill for having conversations and telling stories.

🌼 What evidence is there to show that Early Talk Boost works?

Early Talk Boost was piloted between September 2014 and September 2015 to evaluate its impact on children’s early language development. The evaluation framework was designed with the support of Professor Tim Pring at City University London to be as close as possible to a randomised controlled trial, considered to be the gold standard of research methods.

🌼After Early Talk Boost:

● Children make statistically significant progress in their early language development.
● On average, children make six months’ progress after the nine-week intervention, helping them to narrow the gap between them and other children their age. This is twice the rate of progress of children not having the intervention.
● 95% of parents felt that Early Talk Boost had made a difference to their children’s language and communication. Parents felt they had learnt something by being involved in the programme, and would change how they talked to their child.

🌼A massive welcome to our new Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist Ciara 🌼

Ciara has worked for the NHS as a Speech and Language Therapist, working primarily to support children’s communication in mainstream schools and Pre-School clinics. Ciara has lots of experience working with children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, language delay, language disorder, selective mutism and speech sound delay/disorder.

Ciara is also trained in the Hanen It Takes Two to talk programme, the Michael Palin Parent Child Interaction for stammering and ELKLAN 0-3’s.

We are so lucky to have such a passionate and motivated Therapist joining the Rebecca Pearson Speech and Language Therapy Team ☺️ (it also helps that she’s a massive Friends fan and loves Christmas!)

Wow wow wow what a year!

On our first birthday as a limited company I’m looking back and thinking there were so many times this year where I wasn’t sure if we would make it to this point. Not because we weren’t passionate enough, or motivated enough or hard working enough, but because I wasn’t sure if I myself were resilient enough. Despite so many challenges thrown our way, lockdown after lockdown, consistent isolations and schools closing we made it! We got here!

I remember thinking if I make it through this year we can honestly achieve anything as a team. I know the pandemic isn’t over and covid will probably be part of our lives forever to a degree, but to sit here writing this after so much uncertainty I honestly feel so excited for what’s to come.

We have achieved so much, we have continued to provide support to families over zoom, in clinic and homes, we established our first clinic, expanded our team with a highly specialist Assistant, an office manager and a brand new Paediatric Therapist who is joining the team in a few weeks time. We now have three contracted schools that we have secured for the next working year. We are innovative and passionate about what we do and will continue to support our children, families and School to ensure all our children are effective in communicating their needs💗

A special thank you to and who are the best team I could ever wish to manage. We are such a family unit and I admire you both so much for your drive, ideas and passion for the jobs you both do. We don’t go through one day without a right giggle and I hope I can continue to support you in achieving all your dreams as part of this team. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you both.

So here’s to the next year 🥂
