Today is officially the ICOMOS International Day for Monuments and Sites, or as it’s more simply known, 'World Heritage Day’.
Did you know there is over 1,100 WHS in the world and there are currently 33 sites in the UK, with one being Hadrian’s Wall?

Hadrian’s Wall turns 1900 years old this year! Built in 122AD to guard Roman Britain from Scotland, it includes more than 15 forts. Over a dozen of these are already listed on FftD, and the remaining will be added shortly…

Hadrian’s Wall has been standing proud for 1900 years!

The clocks changed on Sunday, Spring is here, and April is just a few days from now which means the Easter holidays are not far away!
According to a family member who new to this subject, "I now look at the landscape differently. Is this a good spot for a fort?". And after finding a map showing the main Roman roads and the main towns with Roman names she also texted, "I feel I am getting even more geeky!".

Today is World Poetry Day!
In honour of this day, we’re sharing Roman Wall Blues; a lyrical exploration of the loneliness of the Roman border soldier posted to the edge of the world.
Auden incorporated this poem in his 1937 radio play, Hadrian’s Wall, about the history of the wall using a family daytrip to the fort of Housesteads as a framing device.
Another family we spoke to had already used Fort for the Day on a recent family trip! They said it was the “perfect amount of information for a family day out”, sharing enough but not too much information so they could go off and explore together.
