It’s hard to beat the feeling of coming home after a long day at work, sitting on the sofa and finally relaxing. If you’re anything like us, you’ll even breathe a big sigh of relief as you leave the stress of the day behind you.

Creating a relaxing, cosy and comfortable ambience makes a big difference. Some people do this by lighting a candle or two, or by lowering the lights. You might even set the scene by playing some tranquil music.

At Mackintosh Cottage, we have been fortunate to visit a range of beautiful places, some near and some far. But, if there is one thing that we have learned, it’s that you are just as likely to find a gorgeous destination in Europe and the UK as you are further afield.

There is no denying that Langtoft is a place for animal lovers. You don’t have to venture too far to see dog walkers and friendly cats, and there are sure to be many more behind closed doors. This got us thinking about pet names and the best ones that we’ve heard over the years. There are cats named after characters and dogs named after food. There are funny and unique names, as well as those that are classic and common.

This usually means dusting in places that have been forgotten about, washing cushions and blankets, organising cupboards and giving each room a good freshen-up. You might go as far as to completely organise your wardrobe or give a piece of furniture a new lick of paint. You might regrout the bathroom, rearrange your living room or finally sort out the kids’ toys.

A big spring clean can really set you up for the coming months, and it’s sure to make your home feel a lot less cluttered and exceptionally clean.
