COVID Business Grants January 2022

The schemes will close to registrations and applications at 4pm on the 14th February 2022

The Welsh Government introduced the Emergency Business Fund to support businesses principally in the hospitality, tourism, retail and leisure sectors with cash flow support and to help them survive the economic consequences of restrictions put in place to control the spread of Covid-19 by the First Minister in his announcement on 22nd December 2021.

The grants will also support supply chain businesses for these four sectors that can demonstrate a material impact of greater than 40% drop in turnover to their enterprises as a result of the additional restrictions.

In relation to self-catering accommodation, these properties will not be eligible for the grant unless one of the following criteria are met:
· The self-catering property is for 30 people or more, or
· The self-catering accommodation is classed as an outdoor education centre

The fund consists of two grants – Businesses will only be eligible to apply for funding through one of the two schemes, businesses cannot apply for both the NDR grant and the Discretionary Grant.

Scheme 1 - Non Domestic Rates Emergency Grant
Grant A:
A £2,000 cash grant payment for hospitality, retail, tourism and leisure businesses with Small Business Rate Relief (SBRR) qualifying hereditaments. The same ratepayer may only receive Grant A for a maximum of two properties in each local authority occupying hereditaments with a rateable value of £12,000 and under.
Grant B:
A £4,000 cash grant payment for hospitality, retail, tourism and leisure businesses occupying hereditaments with a rateable value between £12,001 and £51,000.
Grant C:
A £6,000 cash grant payment for hospitality businesses occupying hereditaments with a rateable value between £51,000 and £500,000.
For all businesses, their hereditament must have been on the NDR rating list as of the 1st September 2021 and the ratepayer needs to have been in occupation of the property as of the 30th November 2021.
Scheme 2 - Discretionary Business Support Emergency Grant
Open to applications during the week beginning the 17th January 2022
This fund is designed to support businesses who do not have a property or are not eligible to apply for the Non Domestic Rates Grant (NDR).
Grant A:
A £500 cash grant payment for hospitality, tourism, retail and related supply chain businesses which do not employ anyone apart from the owner, and do not have a property.
Grant B:
A £2,000 cash grant payment for hospitality, tourism, retail and related supply chain businesses who employ staff through PAYE (in addition to the owner).
If you are an eligible sole trader, freelancer, taxi driver or eligible business who does not have a property or are not eligible to apply for the NDR, the Discretionary Emergency grant will open to applications the week beginning the 17th January 2022.

After yesterday: What the Hell is going on? Surely, surely, we all must understand that what is happening is not inevitable!? Other countries are supporting their citizens. Rishi Sunak is pretending to do so. The Conservatives have been disastrous for the UK. I understand how people will have ideological reasons to support them, but this is beyond the joke.

I'd just like to say a big thank you to any electors that may have already voted for me, and Plaid, in the postal vote, and any that may vote for me tomorrow. It is greatly appreciated, and if elected, I will work hard on your behalf to repay your trust in me, and to also follow-on in the footsteps of the late Plaid Cymru Councillor Dave Cowans. A hard working man, passionate about the welfare of his constituents, and others in general.
I also owe a big debt of gratitude to all those that have supported me so much over the past few months. Meinir Huws in particular has been immense. Diolch o galon, Meinir.
We had a great final day leafletting in Eirias Ward, and were joined by Elin Walker Jones who took time out of her very busy schedule and campaign for Clwyd West in the Senedd elections. Diolch Elin.
Councillor Abdul Khan joined us too which I am very grateful for as I know he is an extremely hard working Councillor for Glyn Ward. Diolch also to Aaron Wynne who has been extremely supportive and helpful over the course of this campaign. A rising star for sure.
Thanks also to Austin Roberts and the other Conwy County - Plaid Cymru Councillors for their support and advice, it is much appreciated.
Many thanks also to Tecwyn, Ray, Trevor, Caroline, Graham, Will, Richard and anyone I may have inadvertently missed out at this time.
Diolch yn fawr i chi gyd!
Patrick 🙂
