What size solar power system will I need?

This is a common question often asked by my customers.
A good place to start is looking at your last electric bill! Somewhere on that will be your providers Estimated Annual Consumption.
A client yesterday was just over 6000. Let's just say that that figure is 6000 units of electricity. Now if you divide 6000 by the number of days in the year 365, you get 16.43.
So, on an average every day that household is using 16.43 units of electricity. It would be sensible to try and aim for an installation that would provide that for them.
At this point I will ask the client if they intend to increase their consumption in the next few years. For example, an electric car, hot tub, someone coming to live with them. Let's just say the answer to that is no. So now we are looking for a 16.43 kWh provision every day.
Here is the thing, if you’re in Cornwall and the surrounding areas, the sign does shine (really).
The Energy Performance Validation Service asks us to calculate returns on an average of 3 hours daylight every day. Divide 16.43 and you get 5.47. You would be looking for a 5.47 or more kWh system to install.

But wait I hear you say, isn't at least a third of power that we use at night? That's where a battery comes in! But that's for the next instalment.
