How lovely was that winter sun today? Making those dog walks seem more appealing and getting us excited for warmer days ๐ŸŒž

Whilst we appreciate it wasnโ€™t hot today, when the summer months do come (it wonโ€™t be long guys), itโ€™s really important to keep your dogs noses and paws protected from the heat. Our new balm is made up of healing products such as Calendula and Shea Butter, that helps protects your pets paws and noses from the heat as well as protects them from rough surfaces such as hot pavements.

We are so excited for our latest product launch, 100% organic paw and nose balm, for cracked or dry noses and paws ๐Ÿพ

Because this balm is so soothing and nourishing it will help to moisturise and restore your dogs paws and nose. This is due to it being purposely designed and created with super indulgent and restorative ingredients such as Beeswax, coconut oil and calendula extract which promotes healing โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน

The best part, this product isnโ€™t limited to just dogs, itโ€™s also great for cats and all your other furry friends ๐Ÿ™Œ

We've been feeling the cold this week at PK HQ ๐Ÿฅถ; we get it; walking your dog in -4 conditions (or lower ๐Ÿ˜ฑ) is hard to get excited about for some and not possible for others. So, we've put together some alternative activities to keep your pawtner stimulated & occupied if you can't get outside:

1. Puzzles - we aren't talking jigsaws ๐Ÿ˜‚; dog puzzle toys are great for mental stimulation; they'll keep your dog busy & prevent them from getting into things they shouldn't (chewing furniture etc)

2. Kongs - a classic, fill a kong with some dog-friendly peanut butter ๐Ÿฅœ & this will keep them busy for a while!

3. Licky pads - these are not only mentally stimulating but an excellent tool for dogs who suffer from separation anxiety, spread a spreadable treat over a licky pad & leave them to it; if you're using it as an aid for separation anxiety, start by leaving your dog for a short period & gradually increase the time away.

4. Rope toys/balls - using either of these options to play as either a tug of war or "fetch" will use up some of that (endless) energy!

Tag us in any new activities you & your four-legged friend get up to ๐Ÿถ!

Countless studies show the benefits of having a pet๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ; some won't come as a surprise, but what you may not expect are some of the health benefits.

A 2020 study from the University of York showed that 90% of pet owners felt their four-legged friends helped them cope during the first lockdown, whilst Harvard Medical School found that just petting a dog can reduce your heart rate & blood pressure; the dog loves it too!

Here are some of the researched benefits of owning a pet;
- reduces the feeling of loneliness ๐Ÿ˜”
- reduces heart rate & blood pressure ๐Ÿ’‰
- teaches your kids responsibility ๐Ÿ‘ถ
- helps alleviate stress & anxiety ๐Ÿคฏ
- encourages exercise & movement ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ
- improves cognitive function in older people ๐Ÿง
- improves social skills ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ

Easy Peanut Butter Dog Treats! ๐Ÿถ

These tasty treats ๐Ÿ˜‹ are super easy & only 30mins to make.

You'll need 350g flour (plain or gluten-free), 120ml water, 2 eggs & 2 tbsp of dog-friendly peanut butter (we used Peamutt Butter Luna loves it! โค๏ธ)

Pre-heat oven to 175c
Pour the flour into a mixing bowl
add both eggs
add 2 tbsp of peanut butter (dog-friendly, ensure your brand doesn't include Xylitol)
add 120ml of water
Mix until smooth consistency
Use a rolling pin on a dusted surface to roll dough into approx 2inch thickness
pop in the oven at 175c for 18-20mins
take out (they'll look pale still) and leave them to cool
Enjoy!

You can swap out the peanut butter for alternatives such as honey ๐Ÿฏ, mashed banana ๐ŸŒ, pureed pumpkin ๐ŸŽƒor mashed sweet potato ๐Ÿ .

Now that we're in December, we thought it would be helpful to share a few hints & tips on how to make this Christmas pet safe & fun for everyone ๐ŸŽ„

- Lots of people like to give their Dogs a special Christmas dinner; who can blame them after we've eaten our weight in roast potatoes ๐Ÿ˜‹? Here are some dog-safe foods from your Christmas plate that won't result in you taking a family trip to the Vets Boxing Day; keep in mind its best to introduce new food slowly to avoid upset tummies & any food high in salt should be avoided:
Turkey/Lamb meat (no bones)
Salmon Fillet
Green Beans
Brussel Spouts
Parsnips
Carrots
Peas
Swede
Potato (boiled is best)

- Toxic Foods essential to avoid๐Ÿ™…:
Chocolate - even a tiny amount can make your dog very ill.
Christmas Pudding & Mince pies - the grapes & dried fruit can cause kidney failure
Onions - including garlic, leeks, shallots & chives; keep in mind these ingredients are in many foods such as stock & gravy, stuffing mixtures etc
Alcohol - this may sound obvious, but dogs can get curious around unattended glasses!
Macadamia Nuts
Leftovers - can easily be left unattended or contain any of the above
Sweets - many of these contain Xylitol which is poisonous to dogs

Finally, make your life easier & keep your Christmas tree area a dog-free zone; there are so many temptations around a tree; "this shiny bauble looks delicious", "those fairy lights look like a flashing snake, I must save my hooman from this mortal danger", "why do all of these weird smelling things make an odd noise, I must destroy them."
