Tree Grower is a great starting point if you can provide at least 2-3 generations of accurate ancestry information. This is also the best option for specific research goals or requests, such as exploring ‘dead ends’. I use Ancestry.com to build private copies of family trees. If you’re already there, you only need a free account to share your existing tree. If you’re on another site, I’ll explain on purchase how to easily send me a copy of your gedcom file (a digital version of your family tree) and I’ll take it from there. If your family tree was written down before the internet age, sign up and I’ll use information you provide to grow an updated version which you can keep online for free and also download to a computer.
I will cross reference all information using records held by the so-called ‘Big Four’ – ancestry, MyHeritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch. But after a 3 decade career in international broadcast news journalism, I only fully trust original sources. So my primary information will come from official archives in Britain and Ireland. While they are free to search, they generally cost money to download documents. Tree Grower will provide reference numbers for further research but if you want digital copies of your ancestors actual records, upgrade to Record Keeper which includes the cost of purchase, permanent copies of records held by the ‘Big Four’ and an additional day of research.

18/08/2019

Record Keeper includes everything in Tree Grower plus permanent digitised versions of as many official records as possible. Original sources include birth, marriage, death and census documents as well as military and emigration records where available. The so called ‘big four’ ancestry, myheritage, Findmypast and FamilySearch are great but they don’t store your records without an expensive monthly or annual subscription. Many clients say they learned this the hard way coming to me after losing countless hours of searched documents when they cancelled their paid access to records, expecting to keep what they had found. I’ll provide digitised original documents that you can store on these sites for free, so you won’t need an ongoing subscription. I’ll also search all the official archives in Britain and Ireland, many of which are not available outside of government agencies. The purchase of official records is included in the price of Record Keeper. Upgrade to Deep Past to add analysis of your DNA results, connect the dots to distant cousins and trace your ancient local origins in Britain and Ireland.

18/08/2019

Deep Past will tell you whether your ancestors spent hundreds of years in places like Donegal, the Scottish Highlands and Cornwall. Depending on your DNA provider, you can also learn whether your most ancient of ancestors were Neanderthals and whether you descend more from their hunter gatherer descendants or the farmers and iron age invaders who arrived thousands of years later.
