Hello All😁

Uff-Stuff is ready to handspring out of hibernation and get back to out-and-abouting!

So, there have been a couple of nips, tucks and tweaks of old beloved designs, plus a whole new range of lively, vibrant designs and makes to show and tell you about....a complete cacophony of colour and (thank you Tula Pink) beautiful new fabrics to celebrate the good stuff - been a bit busy!

Here's what I've been up to during Uff-Stuff's extended radio silence...
Firstly, a happy heartfelt "hello and welcome" to STRIPES!❤
Stripes are written into us Uffs' DNA and I am a proud flag-waving-stripe-wearing-true believer...always have been, even before they got all popular! So now out little Uffy-Stuffies come all dressed up and dapper in stripy T-shirts. Gorgeous.

Next, you'll see from my snap shots I've started designing cushions. This has been SOMUCHFUN!!

There are two main events lined up for Uff-Stuff stalls this year:

🐾WATERBEACH DOG SHOW🐾🐾 June 26th
🚲LEIGHTON BROMSWOLD BIKE FEST🚲
Which is sometime in September.

I love the things I design and make for Uff-Stuff. But, I truly love the reason and heart underpinning our Uff-Stuff venture. Proceeds this year will once again go to Barnardo's. Plus, for each toy or cushion sold I will be able to make a toy/cushion as a gift for children living in care.

Dear Uff Stuff family, friends, customers, curious followers/Likers, fellow lovers of sewing – colour – design – and, most importantly, people…

WHAT A YEAR THIS HAS BEEN!

I couldn’t allow the last day of the year to slide by without sending you a huge, from the bottom to the top of my heart, THANK YOU for all the support and encouragement you have shown me in my Uff Stuff endevours this year.

It began back in April with a Buffy Bunny, made from remnants, for my beautiful and newest baby nephew to welcome him into the family. It’s design was tweaked, nipped and tucked here and there, whilst the faintest whisper of an idea took hold for where I could try to take this simple toy - and a family of others(?...).

I have held back from sharing the significant and deep rooted origins to my future hopes for Uff Stuff, because first of all I wanted to find out just how well the toys would be received. So, having manned several market stalls in near heatstroke (Leighton Bromswold!) to hurricane (Laxfield!) to hypothermia (Waterbeach!) conditions, plus others in perfectly ideal weather too (Hurray!), I can confidently report that UffStuff stuff has gone down very VERY well.

I am delighted to tell you that Uff-Stuff sales have exceeded £1000 in just 6 months. Proceeds have been split between 3 Charities : Barnardos - Golden Oldies – The Salvation Army Christmas Fund.

The main focus of my Uff Stuff work has been to design and make toys to raise money for children in care. Our own wonderful children started their lives in care, as did my dad. My dad was taken to his foster family back in the early 1930s with only the clothes he was wearing and his name (Uff). So, my motivation to produce beautiful original toys for other children in care has a powerful engine.

Now, to the HUGELY EXCITING BIG NEWS….
Through a friend who works with children in care, Uff Stuff was invited to donate some toys this Christmas to a household of beautiful children living in care. This was exactly the opportunity I had hoped Uff Stuff would have one day. I am so encouraged and thrilled that this door has opened up so soon.

So, there is now another dimension to our work with potential for many, many other children in care to be given Uff Stuff toys. What a complete honour. I will definitely keep you posted as this new chapter unfolds.
Once again, our heartfelt thanks go out to all you UffStuffers! We are in our infancy, but, what a start!!!!!

WOOOOOOOOOOOW! What a terrific day Uff-Stuff and friends have had at lovely Leighton Bromswold. Am still buzzing. Most purchases made of all my market stalls so far! BARNARDO'S are going to be buzzing too after today! Thank you LB for hosting this fun friendly fabulous event, can't wait for next year's Bike Fest!! Right enough gushing... nope never enough gush! Now need to sewsewsew to replenish my stock - HURRAH😁

Laxfield Community Market (childhood home turf💛)... what a fun, friendly bunch of people. I was back to back Gazebo paired with the fabulous Freddie and his amazing food bank team, who helped me do battle with the intermittent torrential rain bursts. Met other super people too. Thank you Laxfield , maybe see you again with sunnier skies?!😁💚

Meet RUFFUS – the newest member of the Uff-Stuff family of Barnardo’s stuffies. Ruffus is named after our own beloved, pinnacle of perfection, pupstar Rufus-dog... who was himself named after one of my all-time HEROES of the music world (who shall remain nameless!?)

When we were training Rufus as a young pup, it was crystal clear he was food motivated. Nothing was safe, including ci******es (sorry builders!) and he'd still, doubless, sell his pupstar soul for some chocolate milk....

With this in mind I’ve designed Uff Stuff Ruffus with a tummy to reflect real Rufus-dog's passion for food. The Ruffus animated ears are also a version of real Rufus' radar ears. These took a good while to get right, but so worth it as they add so much more gorgeous character.

Admittedly, training our real Rufus dog has had its tricky moments, but we got there in the end – sort of. We have excelled in training him to sleep snuggled up on our beds with us, choose the best, comfiest place on the sofas, and expect the ecstasy of early morning scratches and unlimited cuddles on demand. We should get an award!
And, on that note, I am delighted to announce that I’ve been invited to debut Uff Stuff Ruffus at a local village dog-show - PERFECT!! So, to mark the occasion and reflect the message of this event, he has been given, as a tribute, a fabulously fitting last name: Ruffus Trainright!.. yep!

Thought I was down to my very last two Barnardo's Buffy Bunnies tonight, but then I found another one hiding on my shelf.. So, can definitely say these three glamorous Buffies are the last three of my first editions! This is amazing and I am so so thrilled at how well Buffy has been received. More fabric on order and rather special plans afoot for Buffy (and friends!!)...
Anyway, if you would like to buy one of THESE beautiful Buffies, do message me. 😁💚💙💜

Hello Everyone

Welcome (officially!) to my Uff Stuff FB page. It has occurred to me that there are probably people who are visiting this page who don’t personally know me, so a proper introduction is a good idea. I’m Deb (maiden name ‘Uff’) – the maker of the ‘stuff’. My totally brilliant husband is the couldn’t-do-any-of-it-without-him-all-things-tech-lead in this Uff Stuff venture. Our two children are Uff Stuff’s chief cheerleaders who dutifully sleep with their Buffy Bunnies tucked under their chins. And, I can’t not mention our beloved Rufus dog who spends almost every moment of my sewing shed time snuggled up on the sofa in there – just being.

Up until earlier this year I had been sewing with an inherited 1968 Singer sewing machine (which I love btw) - but, to celebrate my big 5-0, I was generously given a super-shiny-clever-brand new Brother sewing machine – HURRAH! So, having travelled at warp speed into the 21st century with sewing, I have been able to start Uff Stuff – and to be honest, it is something of a pinch myself moment.

I first fell in love with colour a long time ago when I was teaching a year 4 class. We were exploring colour through Kandinsky’s concentric circles work. Every single one of us was utterly captivated and we were excited about each art lesson. When it came our turn to proudly display our Kandinsky inspired efforts in the school hall, the result was a breathtakingly beautiful cacophony of colour. It was impossible not to notice it and impossible not to have an emotional response to it. BOOM! We’d done it! THAT is art.

Everything I make for Uff Stuff is defined by truly vibrant combinations of colours and beautiful quality fabrics. I am currently working with a pairing of the Kaffe Fassett Spots range and Makower Dots – GORGEOUS! I will soon be posting descriptions of the individual pieces I’m making and will let you know how/where they will be on sale.

I make the ‘Stuff’ I love.

WHY?
Starting Uff-Stuff is definitely about a joyous celebration of colour and clever simple designs - YES. But it's also been the result of allowing myself (being given) hours and hours and HOURS in my sewing room (thank you lovely husband and children💚) - time and head-space through the grief of losing my mum last year, to heal and immerse myself in memories of my lovely, loving, loved mum and dad. So Uff-Stuff is also a celebration of them and what they stood for. And, with that in mind Uff- Stuff has found its focus and lasting joy... sharing the good "stuff"...
