🤰 Why are women twice as likely to be diagnosed with IBS than men?

🩸 Changes to hormones during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy and perimenopause may play their part in exacerbating symptoms.

💊 The Contraceptive Pill - contains synthetic hormones, effectively switching off your natural hormones, the pill alters the microbiome the pill causes water retention and bloating and may include ingredients sensitive to the individuals gut.

👩 Conditions that are more prevalent in women are linked to IBS, including endometriosis, chronic bladder conditions, pelvic floor dysfunction and a range of auto-immune conditions. These all have the ability to cause or impact IBS symptoms.

🤯 Emotional and physiological factors are more prevalent in women. From stress, to depression and anxiety, heightened bodily awareness, trying to ‘do it all’ whilst suppressing emotions and more likely to have suffered from trauma. These all affect the brain-axis and and again have a huge impact on IBS symptoms.

👨‍⚕️ Women are more likely to seek medical attention than men, whether that’s down to cultural ‘norms’, better awareness of health or being encouraged by their support network to seek help.

🥵 Kim Kardashian, Candice Swanepoel and Shaun Mendes - all over did it in the sun and ended up getting burnt.

At the Time of the Sun Burn
🍯 Topically they can liberally apply aloe vera or a Manuka honey lotion. I recommend Aromatica or Pure D’or for the Aloe Vera gels and Bio First Manuka Skin Saver which is a combination of Manuka honey and aloe vera or you could put honey directly on to the affected area - if you don’t mind the stickiness!

🐠 In terms of supplements the recommendations are cod liver oil for a period of 12 weeks, high dose Vitamin D at the time of getting the sunburn and bioavailable curcumin for the best absorption. Their various mechanisms are immune modulating, anti-inflammatory, help to reduce oxidative stress by scavenging free radicals and help to reduce UV and DNA damage.

Prevention
☢️ Reduce overall oxidative stress through diet and lifestyle to minimise the severity of the damage caused by UV radiation. Ensure adequate Vitamin D levels for protective powers against UV and supplement with cod liver oil which helps the skin’s resistance to sun burns.

🧢 Ensure getting a gradual tan, staying out of the sun in the middle of the day, covering up where needed and using either natural sunscreen or zinc oxide.

🤯 In a hustle-driven world, it’s easy to overcommit. True balance isn’t doing EVERYTHING; it’s about what truly matters for well-being.

🚧 Excuses: “Balance” shouldn’t justify habits that don’t serve us—late snacks, excess screen time. Let’s call it what it is: a detour from what we need.

🔄 Detrimental Hustle: The constant go, juggling tasks - burnout, stress, missing out on time with loved ones, neglecting self-care. It’s time to reassess priorities.

🌈 True Harmony: It’s not perfection; it’s intentional choices aligning with your values. What contributes to well-being? Quality time with like-minded souls, stillness, nourishing foods.

If you’ve been to Bali it’s more than likely at some stage you suffered Bali belly. In fact it’s estimated that globally 1 in 6 people experience food poisoning every year.

In terms of supplements for short term relief ensure you have packed activated charcoal, ginger and electrolytes.

Ensure consuming filtered water, and eat plain, non acidic foods without spices and avoid alcohol. If you can get hold of organic bone broth this would be an excellent inclusion.

Prevention is also key to minimise the likelihood of contracting food poisoning. Supplement with saccharomyces boulardii, butyrate and probiotics. Also, ensure you’ve been supporting your immune system prior to travelling.

Food poisoning can lead to small bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and parasites which should be supported by following a gut protocol to include antimicrobials and then building up the hood gut bacterial and microbiome, this should be guided by an experienced practitioner.

I often get asked about what the best supplements for longevity are…. But there’s so many other pillars to nail before we look at supplements. My top recommendations:

👉🏾 7 - 8 hours of sleep. Sleep hygiene and a sleep routine will support quality sleep. Sleeping well adds 2 years to a woman’s life and 5 year’s to a man’s.

👉🏾 Getting your bloods tested at functional ranges allows you to pinpoint imbalances and deficiencies and to personalise your health plan to optimise your health to help you live longer.

👉🏾 Connection - a recent review of 148 studies found that people who are isolated face a 50% greater risk of premature death than those who have stronger social connections. Connect with like-minded individuals, medicine for the soul.

👉🏾 From our thirties our muscle and bone density starts to increase. Prioritise strength training. In a review of 16 studies from around the globe, researchers found that just 30 to 60 minutes a week of muscle-strengthening, or “resistance,” exercise increased life expectancy by 10 to 17 percent.

👉🏾 Meditation leads us to a quiet state of mind and reduces stress. Breath work puts us into a parasympathetic state; reducing stress. In various studies chronic stress reduces your lifespan from between 2.8-33 years.

👉🏾 Being grateful, positive and happy makes life more fulfilling and can add 10 years on to life expectancy.

👉🏾 Fulfil your dreams and desires. Life is too damned short to be in a job you hate or being in an unhappy relationship. Don’t settle for less than what makes your heart sing.

🍣 So many people are unaware that there are different types of PCOS. Understanding the type and root cause is vital in assisting with treatment.

🍭 The most common type of PCOS is insulin resistance PCOS, present in up to 70% of women with PCOS, and as high as 95% in women that are overweight with PCOS.

💪 Nutrition and lifestyle play an important part in reducing blood glucose levels. Recommend reducing sugar, a low carb diet, a 16 hour fasting window 2-3 times per week on non consecutive days, strength training and walking, and avoiding hormonal birth control.

💊 Supplements to consider are magnesium glycinate, zinc picolinate, myo-inositol, vitamin D, berberine, peony & liquorice. Please ensure a practitioner is consulted (or DM us) for guidance as supplements have certain medical interactions and should be cycled.

This beautiful client came to me when she had nowhere to turn. She was in immense pain, exhausted and struggling to get out of bed. She was at her wit’s end having suffered for so long, had been to the doctor’s and kept getting fobbed off. The doctor had tested her hormones which were within the conventional range but didn’t check the rest of her blood panel so the conclusion from them was that she was fine.

We were able to implement a couple of things before getting her blood tests results back which really helped with sleep and fatigue.

With the comprehensive range of bloods I test I was able to determine the root cause of her symptoms…. Her thyroid antibodies were sky high. I put together an in-depth protocol and with the right nutrition, supplement and lifestyle plan and my support her symptoms were reversed.

The NHS is under such pressure, even if you do manage to get an appointment, you’re in there for all of 10 minutes. Often prescribed something to manage the symptoms alone without understanding the root cause of the issue. This client knew that she had to take her health into her own hands.

I spent hours understanding her symptoms, analysing her bloods and running through her protocol plus ensured continued support. This testimonial describes how it’s been completely life changing for her.

🌎 400 million people around the world are living with fibromyalgia, that’s an estimated 5-7% of the worlds population.

👩 More prevalent in females, in particular from around the time of perimenopause.

🤯 Whilst the cause is not completely understood it can be triggered by trauma or stress, emotional or physical.

🤕 Symptoms include pain and stiffness, fatigue, gut health problems, sensitivity to pain, light, temperature, noise and smell, problems with concentrating and memory, anxiety, depression, migraines, numbness and tingling, restless legs and painful periods.

Need to support your thyroid health?

Ensure you avoid fluoride, found in our water systems and conventional toothpastes.

Ensure your water filter removes fluoride - the most competitively priced one I have found in the UK is Zero.

I just discovered ecodenta organic toothpaste with coconut oil which I swear is the crack of toothpastes.

Also look into red light therapy, sources of selenium (Brazil nuts are excellent) journalling and breath work.

In conventional medicine if you have issues with your gut your diagnosis is usually IBS.

Generally told to go on your merry way to deal with bloating, flatulence, pain, nausea, and difficulty on the toilet.

For me I was so embarrassed that I tried to avoided going to the toilet where possible meaning I wasn’t expelling toxins out of my body and they were then being reabsorbed into my system. I didn’t know I could get help at the time and just thought it was something that I just had to live with.

Fast forward several years and I now have an in-depth knowledge on gut health conditions and how to treat them effectively. I want to support people with gut health issues and let them know there is help out there!

I work with you to deep dive into your symptoms and combine with functional blood work you so can get to the root cause of your ‘IBS’. And when we understand the root cause we can offer effective treatment.

I’m so grateful that having an online business gives me the opportunity to work with people around the globe.

There are often barriers emotions, habits and behaviours that we need to understand and address in order to set us free of what no longer serves us.

Navigating health protocols can be challenging, having support along the way, invaluable to reach your goals.

Everyone of my clients has taught me things too; how to adapt my style to suit their needs, what else I need to research / study to offer the best possible support, how to adjust my program to deliver the best possible value and that I need to be the best possible version of myself to help others.

The bonds I’ve formed with my clients since launching my business are stronger than I ever knew was possible and their commitment and results to their programs are what drives me to be a better coach every day.

So, Sunday was an extremely special day for me when I met one of my OG’s in person, my Gemini twin and my namesake, Elizabeth Anne. All the way from Sydney. We had so much to talk about we went off on a million tangents!

And whilst all coaching can be delivered online, meeting and hugging for the first time, well nothing compares to how special that feels! I’ll treasure this day for a long time to come 🥹👯‍♀️🫶

Last week I turned forty-something (WTF, literally one minute ago I was 25 and backpacking in Asia…) As the year closes or I turn another year wiser I like to reflect on lessons learnt.

The end of last year threw a lot of me, all at once. Having a positive mindset, laser sharp focus, and boundless energy ensured I made it out the other side, thriving. New work opportunities and a PT qualification under my belt too.

In couldn’t have done it without my support network - my friends, mentors and health coaches. Love you 😭

Relationships - whether it’s someone special moving to a different realm sooner then expected or seeing an old friendship run it’s course as values are no longer aligned. All of these teach us valuable lessons.

Seeing the damage alcohol does in client bloodwork I made a conscious decision to minimise my drinking.

Going against the grain of the 2.4 suburban expectations, continuing to accept myself for living a more unconventional life than most.

Dogs are life.

Our society is based on status, upon achievements, getting s**t done, ticking off tasks, to do lists, multi-tasking, time blocking, back to back meetings, upon doing it all and having it all.

Fast food for your fast life.

The hardest but most valuable lesson I have learnt in life is; THE VALUE OF SLOW.

Never has there been a better teacher to open my eyes to greater, more fulfilling world where time is our greatest currency.

THE POWER OF PAUSE

➰ Slowing down helps manage stress and anxiety, and improves mood.

➰Slowing down allows us space for ideas and thoughts, it allows for creativity . And allows us to focus and concentrate when we really need to.

➰ Slowing down and being present with loved ones strengthens our relationships.

➰ Slow eating aids digestion and leads to good gut health which supports immunity, heart health, mood, brain health and cognition.

➰ And as if that wasn’t enough slowing can actually alter the pathways in the brain that relate to perception, body awareness, pain tolerance, emotion regulation, introspection, complex thinking, and sense of self.

My preferred ways to slow down - a walk in nature, an ocean dip (miss you so much Bondi!), curling up with a good book and a cuppa, yoga, meditation, breath work, and of course cuddles with Oscar dawg.
