Introducing ‘One Step at a Time’ - an 18-week routine setting journal! ✨🤍

Inspired by my mental health journey, I was inspired to create, design and (with the help of a friend) write ‘One Step at a Time’. I learnt that I needed to look after myself, take time for myself and ultimately count on myself. This personal journey started with being prescribed a routine, I found getting in a routine consistently so difficult and overwhelming. I had set the bar too high making it unachievable. So I broke it down and slowly began to notice the power of a routine and daily habits have.

By slowly adding manageable yet small habits, over a period of time, to create a consistent routine has been amazing in so many ways. Although it may not take away the bad days, and it certainly is not a cure, it really helped me feel grounded and not as anxious, overwhelmed or down about the little tasks.

Maybe you struggle to get out of bed, have zero motivation, feeling like your always running to catch up, exhausted, need a touch of self care in your life?

There is a lot you can do with 1,440 minutes. Yes, obviously you need to eat, sleep, work and all the other daily tasks. How I perceive this quote is that you are making decisions everyday. Every decision you make in your day can make a positive or negative impact. Each day you have the opportunity to make it a great day ✨ ⁠

I’ve been debating whether to write this or not but it kind of explains what’s been going on lately:⁠

More recently I personally have been trying to take things a minute at a time. For some bizarre reason I started to get completely overwhelmed and freak out. My experience of being overwhelmed very quickly turns in anxiety. My heart beating so quickly, sensitive to noises, being a deer in head lights, unable to focus or concentrate, feeling like something heavy is sat on my chest and I just can’t breathe. ⁠

I have been trying to overcome the anxieties that have left me waking up feeling like my heart is going to beat out of my chest, comments that make me feel that I am incapable and the size of a mouse. Slowly, each day it breaks me down, knocks my confidence and makes me believe that I am not good enough. My mind is my worst enemy. It’s so easy to fall down the rabbit hole 🕳 but I’m not letting it! ⁠

Making small positive decisions have been so beneficial. Instead of letting everything build so it becomes crippling, the small habits have been incredibly helpful in setting boundaries and making sure I actually do something instead of completely freezing up. Obviously it hasn’t taken away the bad days but it’s certainly helped me through the bad and that’s huge for me ✨🤍⁠

I hope you are all okay, if anyone has any tips for dealing with anxious days, I’d love to hear them ☺️

✨ Explore, learn, experience ✨

Growing up doesn’t mean you have to map out your whole life then and there. I know 20 year olds who know exactly what they are doing, and I know 50 year olds that still can’t answer the question of what they want to do when they grow up. Just because you might choose one thing now, doesn’t mean you have to stick with that one thing forever.

Life always throws unexpected curve balls. Sometimes those curve balls are good, others not so great. They could be a sign for better days ahead so don’t always assume the worse if something doesn’t go how you thought it would.

Even though I’m only 4 days into my journal, it is helping me strive to be the best version of me. The power of awareness and having the mindset to go on a journey has had a massive influence. ⁠

Yes, some days just don’t work out and some days the world feels like it’s against you. But that’s life! Being the best doesn’t just mean the prettiest, fittest, fastest, strongest or richest. To me, being the best version of myself means showing up and trying my hardest.

So this might be a little off topic but bear with me. I think your well-being revolves around a healthy body. Enough sleep, good food and moving your body just generally makes you feel better. By incorporating these into your routine you will naturally feel better. I personally struggle with body image, which is why I always remind myself that your body is more than just what you see or think you see. Your body is incredible and deserves respect and to be looked after. Drop a ❤️ in the comments if you agree ☺️⁠

Starting week one has been such a journey already. I know I am only two days in. However simply getting in the mindset and starting the journey is a huge step to take!

Side note: For those a little baffled by that comment, I am trialing out my own journal. Follow my journal on my insta story!

It sounds absolutely bonkers but even knowing I have these three little habits to do just keeps me focused and determined to do them. I’m so excited to see where this journal is going to take me.

My inner voice really needs to hear this today. I’ve been really anxious and on edge the last few days. I’m not entirely sure what I’m fearful of or what it is about, however pushing through with positive vibes and taking one step at a a time. I’ve officially kick started my own 18-week journal today so hopefully it will be the start of feeling less anxious 🤞🏼
