Your local community pharmacy has always been a place where you can walk in for advice & guidance on minor issues.

Pharmacists offer expert clinical advice for many common illnesses like sore throats, hay fever, summer colds, tummy troubles, aches & pains. But did you know that now patients who need prescription medication may be able to get it directly from a pharmacy?

On 31 January 2024 the pharmacy first service launched, meaning patients can now visit, without a GP appointment, for the seven common conditions listed below:

➡️ Shingles - 18 years & over
➡️ Sore throat - 5 years & over
➡️ Infected insect bites - 1 year & over
➡️ Earaches in children 1 to 17 years
➡️ Sinusitis - 12 years & over
➡️ Impetigo - 1 year & over
➡️ Uncomplicated urinary tract infection (UTI) in women 16 to 64 years

In some cases, those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, immunocompromised or who have recurring problems may not be eligible for treatment at a pharmacy.

Remember - Pharmacists are trained experts in managing minor illnesses & using medicines safely. They can advise you on the safe use of prescription & over-the-counter medicines too.

Most local pharmacies have private consultation rooms where your pharmacist can talk to you

Sore throats are very common and usually get better by themselves within a week.

You can now visit a pharmacist for advice and treatment an ongoing sore throat.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major cause of respiratory illness in the UK but is relatively unknown to the public.

This new vaccine being offered at the surgery from 1st September 2024, creates huge opportunities to prevent severe illness in those most vulnerable to RSV, helping to protect lives & ease winter pressures for the NHS.

Appointments are now available to book at both Greens Norton & Weedon. Please either respond/book via the SMS sent or if telephoning the surgery, please avoid our busiest times & telephone after 1030 hrs.

We will be offering the vaccine throughout September then will pause from October whilst we deliver the flu vaccine. It is recommended the flu vaccine is not given with RSV 💙🌈

The surgery will be closing at 1230 hrs on Wednesday 21st August for protected staff training.

We will open as normal on Thursday 22nd
August from 0800 hrs 💙🌈

For us to be able to manage our workload safely, patient triage will be available Monday to Friday, 0730-1930 hrs.

If contacting us in this way, we will contact you via text in response. You will usually hear when an appointment has been booked or your request has been dealt with.

If your appointment request is for an acute problem, these appointments are booked, where possible, on the day only.

If you are requesting a particular clinician or cannot be as flexible with your availability, these will take longer to arrange, there may be a wait & you may be asked to telephone the surgery to discuss instead.

Do remember, you can also utilise your local pharmacy or NHS 111 & we still do book appointments over the telephone & front desk, but please be mindful, our hardworking Reception team can only offer you an appointment if there is one available.

GPs are not striking, if they did the impact would be huge.

GP practices consult with more people than all the other services combined.

They are doing 20% more than 2019 with a reduced budget, 20% lower than 8yrs ago & just 6% of NHS budget.

They can no longer provide more with less.
We will not be cutting any of our appointments at GWMWP.

➡️ Everything you hope for from a surgery. Appointments are much easier to make than usual, everyone very friendly and can't do enough to help you and take regard of your circumstances (time leaving work etc). Sometimes they even open on Saturday. Other practices have much to learn from this one.

➡️ Everyone at the practice is helpful and friendly. The staff work their hardest to accommodate and support patients’ requests. They all work very hard, and it makes me sad to see them being shouted at and abused by service users who demand the impossible! Keep up the good work GNWMP team - you are the best.

➡️ The receptionist was most efficient with getting me an appointment, the Dr was quick and very thorough with my examination and ongoing problem, the pharmacist was excellent and had my repeat prescription ready for when I left. I feel very lucky to be a patient of Weedon and Greens Norton Surgery, a very good team!
