Today marks World Youth Skills Day. We would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the positive interventions we supported within Avon and Somerset.
Below are just a select few of some of the interventions delivered across 2023-24:
• The Wheels Project was offered to young people who were not in education and had been identified as being high-risk. The young people participated in kart building and vehicle maintenance as well as driving the karts.
• Sports Mentoring provided young people considered at risk of ASB with a holistic mentor who supported their integration into local community activities.
• Social Media Awareness workshops gave young people an insight social media safety as this is believed to be increasingly used to co-ordinate and arrange violence.
• The Hangar intervention was new life skills intervention, teaching young people a variety of skills, from carpentry, metal work, cooking and managing money to name a few! Each session was followed by physical exercise within the gym.
• SpACE is an intervention designed develop young peoples life skills, while exploring their identity, building their confidence, and aspirations.

In collaboration with Night Time Economy Solutions (NTE Solutions), we are offering a free bystander intervention training program designed to prevent male violence against women and girls (MVAWG).

This program is open to those who work in the nighttime economy, such as in pubs, nightclubs and hospitality.

The fund offers grants ranging from £1,000 to £10,000 to support projects that address crime, serious violence, and antisocial behaviour.

Over 130 young females received a gender specific group work through the VRP. Sessions covered resilience, building self esteem and confidence, prevention of exploitation and healthy relationships within their school and/or youth provisions.
