A new years eve message from Josh Box Yoga..
To all of you amazing people out there. From the ones I had the pleasure of teaching every week, to the ones I was lucky enough to teach once or twice. Thankyou! I truly mean this and say it from the heart- I have absolutely loved our yoga journey together and it has given me memories to last a lifetime.
So many of you are asking "What has happened to Josh Box Yoga?!". My answer - Gone for now, but not forever!
It has been a matter of timing for me.
Since investing everything i had into my exploration around our beautiful planet, then coming back to the UK to share and develop all I had learnt through starting my own yoga business, the pandemic hit as soon as the wheels were rolling. Being in a financially tight situation from the start, I truly could no longer support myself through Josh Box Yoga alone and had to branch away doing what I knew best and graft to make ends meet.
In this year alone, I have gone from traveller, to grounds keeper, to yoga teacher, to online corporate yoga, to truck driver and finally after a long time of thinking and planning for my future, a tree surgeon. I absolutely love working with nature and being outdoors all day long, learning such valuable knowledge about these old old creatures all around us. A very physically demanding job that keeps me fit and is exciting too, winner! Tree surgery has been a truly great fit for me and I look forward to taking this path for as long as I can!
That all being said, once I have mastered burning off over 5 thousand calories a day and still have energy left to teach yoga, I will be back, holding awesome yoga classes at weekends for whoever wants to jump back onboard and look after their bodies along with me!!
As I said, Josh Box Yoga, gone for now, but not for good!..
Wishing you all a much better year ahead, filled with abundance, freedom, happiness and health!
Namaste my awesome Yogis ๐๐ผโค
Hello my beautiful yogis!
So sorry you've had to miss out on the weekly classes these past few weeks. As you can see this has pretty much been what I've been up to to earn some pennies,
driving all sorts of trucks and loads.
Unfortunately the same goes for tomorrow too, so the relaxation class will have to wait until next week. But keep your eyes peeled for an update for classes next week, as I'm in real need of some yoga in my life again as I'm sure you all are too!
See you all soon! ๐งโโ๏ธ๐๐ผ
Hey gangโ๏ธ
Are any of you wanting something specific for tomorrow's class? I'm planning it now so let me know if you want anything in particular! ๐งโโ๏ธ๐
Hello my beautiful yogis!
I'm back from the beautiful French countryside and boy was it peaceful and relaxing.
Join me, tomorrow morning at 10am so I can transport you back there in the countryside with me after some calming yoga ๐งโโ๏ธ

Hey gang!
I wanted to let you know that Thursday's 5pm 'Yoga Workout' class will no longer be happening regularly for the foreseeable future as many people are back to work now and getting back into some kind of normality the virtual class attendance has dropped dramatically.
Thats great to see, finally a light at the end of this long, dark and uncertain tunnel that we were in with COVID.
I'm currently waiting to be accepted to use the public spaces around St Leonards in the lovely garden spaces we have so I'll keep you all informed of that :)
๐Just a quick one though - Fridays morning movement meditation is still on as usual so don't miss out on that ๐งโโ๏ธ๐งโโ๏ธ๐
Here's me trying to look cool the new T-shirt on our morning run, just before sprinted up the hill! ๐โโ๏ธ ๐
Happy summer solstice you beauties!
As you all know, the summer solstice is the longest day of the year for the northern hemisphere right now, and I wanted to remind you that it's also traditionally celebrated as a time to reflect on what we have recieved and look toward new growth.
I know this year so far has been somewhat of a whirlwind but I do invite you to reflect on it all - the good, the bad and the ugly, all of it! And consider how you want to move forward with what youv learnt, what its shown you. You may appreciate different things in your life now looking at what you have, what you don't and what you managed to live without etc. Whatever challenges we've all faced since the last solstice, weve definitly had time to think. So let's all move forward together and make the most out of this awesome planet we live on. โคโ๐ผ
Just a quick hello from me to say I'm starting to feel better and can't wait to get these online classes rockin and rollin again! ๐งโโ๏ธ
See you all this Thursday at 5pm for workout yoga ๐ช๐ผ
Followed closely by the well deserved movement meditation and relaxation at 10am Friday! ๐งโโ๏ธ๐๐ผ
I had little thought this morning which could resonate with you all too..
Emotions are created from our thought, that's how we get into that mood because of the way we are thinking. We can obviously control our thoughts thus meaning we can literally change our emotions!
Let me put it more simply and use myself for example right now, I have been pretty poorly and like anyone, that would get you down and leave you feeling defeated, especially when it stops you from doing the things you wanted to do. I realised that it's my interpretation that will make me feel that way, so instead, I try to replace a negative thought, with a positive one (easier said than done i know, but practice, practice, practice) and if im successful with this, not only will my mood and outlook change but my experience will become more positive too.
Our experience of life isn't so much what happens to us, but rather how we process what happens to us.
In a book im reading, Michael Neill says - "the prevailing model in our culture is that our experience of life is created from the outside in - that is, what happens to us on the outside determines our experience on the inside. People or circumstances 'make' us happy, angry, sad, fearful or loving and the game of life is to find, attract, create, or manifest the right people and circumstances in order to have more of the good feelings and fewer of the bad ones.
While people and circumstances certainly matter what's even more important is that we think about those people and circumstances. Everything from Cognitive and Rational-Emotive therapy to the majority of the self-help movement points out that if you can replace a negative thought, belief, or attitude towards people and circumstances with a positive one, not only will your experience change immediately, but before long the people and circumstances will likely change as well - and even if they don't, at least your positive thoughts and attitudes will allow you to make the best of a bad situation."
Once you realise that its only your own thinking that you are experiencing, that thinking loses much of its hold over you. You might still feel the uncomfortable feelings of course, but because you know that what's causing them isn't outside you, you don't feel compelled to change the world in order to change the way you feel.
So whenever you're going through a tough time that feels like it won't end, or can't change, use your strength to change a negative thought into a positive one, again, easier said than done, but the more you practice this, the easier it becomes giving us a much better experience in life.
I hope this may help you today! :)
To all my lovely people, I have become rather poorly this week (thankfully not covid related) but this means unfortunately all of my yoga classes will have to be cancelled. Things should be back to normal next week. ๐๐ผโค

I just love it when people are able to leave the hecticness of life at the door when they come to class, (even if it is online), It gives people that opportunity to press pause on life and really relax their mind and feel like they can take on the world after!

How beautiful are some of the Himba customs ๐๐ผ
Of all the African tribes still alive today, the Himba tribe is one of the few that counts the birth date of the children not from the day they are born nor conceived but the day the mother decides to have the child.
When a Himba woman decides to have a child, she goes off and sits under a tree, by herself, and she listens until she can hear the song of the child who wants to come. And after she's heard the song of this child, she comes back to the man who will be the child's father, and teaches him the song. When they make love to physically conceive the child, they sing the song of the child as a way of inviting the child.
When she becomes pregnant, the mother teaches that child's song to the midwives and the old women of the village, so that when the child is born, the old women and the people gather around him/her and sing the child's song to welcome him/her. As the child grows up, the other villagers are taught the child's song. If the child falls, or gets hurt, someone picks him/her up and sings to him/her his/her song. Or maybe when the child does something wonderful, or goes through the rites of puberty, then as a way of honoring this person, the people of the village sing his or her song.
In the Himba tribe there is one other occasion when the "child song" is sang to the Himba tribesperson. If a Himba tribesman or tribeswoman commits a crime or something that is against the Himba social norms, the villagers call him or her into the center of the village and the community forms a circle around him/her. Then they sing his/her birth song to him/her.
The Himba views correction not as a punishment, but as love and remembrance of identity. For when you recognise your own song, you have no desire or need to do anything that would hurt another.
In marriage, the songs are sung, together. And finally, when the Himba tribesman/tribeswoman is lying in his/her bed, ready to die, all the villagers that know his or her song come and sing - for the last time that person's song.
โ ๏ธ *SERIOUS QUESTION from me* โ ๏ธ
COVID-19 forced alot of businesses to adapt and continue via the internet. Yoga being one of them.
As you all know I have been teaching yoga classes online for a good month or so now and they have been going really well.
I'm curious -
Are you all attending, ONLY because you cannot come to real life classes?
Does this make my classes more accessible? - less driving/parking/time taken out etc for locals. As well as being available online for everyone else in the country?
Would people want to carry on online classes in the future if they had the option to attend real life classes too?
I love yoga, I love teaching it and I miss my students a lot. I miss hearing about their lives and connecting with them through our practice.
But I have to admit, virtual classes hav'nt been as bad as us teachers were dreading. I have been able to introduce yoga to people who have never given it a try that live all over the country and to me, that's amazing! I have been able to connect to friends, family and new individuals through my yoga classes that I would NEVER have had the chance to, staying locally.
What are your thoughts and feelings of attending virtual yoga classes and do they have a place in YOUR future??
Either I am very boring, or these guys are super relaxed! ๐๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ
Such a great class today!
We had some new faces joining my awesome regulars, which is always exciting and everyone looking really on form today ;)
Great job! Happy Thursday's everyone ๐งโโ๏ธ๐งโโ๏ธ
I know how i'll be starting my Thursday, the right way! Are you joining us?! :)
Sometimes you really do just need to 'stop and smell the flowers' on your daily quarantine exercise.
(Ok, and maybe take your clothes off too)
Spending more time outdoors nurtures our โnature neuronsโ and our natural creativity. For example, after just an hour interacting with nature, memory performance and attention spans improved by 20%.
So when you're next out on your daily 'lockdown' exercise, make the most out of it and never take being in nature for granted. ๐ณ๐

It's definitely times like these that really make me feel fortunate to live where I live. So close to nature, with this being my back garden.
It makes me think, will people's priorities change a little when we're out of this, maybe change the way they live or the location?!
The smell of that cold, fresh, salty air hitting my face and the sound of the gulls in the distance is enough to make anyone feel calm!
My Story
Have you ever found yourself, daydreaming of a better life?
Thinking, how did I get here? And why havenโt I taken time to do more things I actually like? I mean that is what we are all here for rightโฆ to enjoy life? Well, let me tell you, you are not the only one.
That was me, halfway into a career in the British Armed Forces. Donโt get me wrong, there were definitely good times but long term, it just wasnโt for me. I did my time having deployed all over the world, serving in places like Cyprus, the Falkland Islands, and Afghanistan but after another 5 years I just couldnโt keep up the charade. I was unhappy. I felt lost, as though I had misplaced a part of myself. I knew I needed to jump back onto my happiness trail, even if it meant following it blindly each step of the way. I had to see what adventures life had in store for me.
So that was that! I handed in my notice with the military after 10 years of service. I sold all of my possessions and took off around the world without a plan for my future. I paddled my way along the Okavango Delta, walked the Inca trail, ran down some of the worldโs largest sand dunes in the deserts of Namibia, stayed amongst the Yaguas Tribe deep in the Amazon Rainforest, learnt bush craft from the San Bushmen in Botswana and rode wild horses with the nomad families of Mongolia, to name but a few experiences! Exploring a total of 27 amazing countries on this trip within the space of two years.
I seriously underestimated the power of freedom!
Following my intuition, curiosity and hunger for adventure, I travelled to all the weird and wonderful corners of the world. I was free, I had the time to do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, for the first time in my adult life. I knew before setting off that I was journeying to some of the most beautiful and interesting places on planet, but I could never have imagined the profound and continuing effect that my travels would have on me and my understanding of myself. My adventures took me on an immense, introspective journey, diving deep, I was committed to explore what was going on inside.
It was during my time living as a volunteer or "woofer" in a yogic community on New Zealand's North Shore that I discovered my passion for yoga. I was living and working with some of the most liberal and spiritual individuals I have ever met, from all corners of the world in a beautiful yoga retreat. Crazy nights under the moon followed by spontaneous adventures in camper vans, chatting for hours about subjects I've never had the chance to delve into so deeply before. This experience fuelled my spiritual fire, my new found passion for all things Yoga and before long saw me travelling around the world to India.
Down by the River Ganga, I studied the ways of Yoga, surrounded by spiritual teachers and fellow soul searchers, living in an Ashram under the teachings of Svarmiโs and Sadhus. A daily schedule from 05:30 to 19:30 of meditation, asana practice, cleansing techniques, breathwork and philosophy just lit me up! For the first time, I felt as though I had found something truly meaningful, something which actually left me thirsty for more. Even with a 14 hour daily yoga practice, I still managed to find time to be inspired by books by "Eckhart Tolle, Alan Watts, Terence McKenna and Patanjali's 8 limbs of yogaโ, which as I am sure you can imagine by now, fuelled the fire even more.
