Holy Cross Girls'Primary School
All girls primary school based in North Belfast.
Such fun and excitement as the Primary One girls had their first sports day at Holy Cross Girls. Despite the cool weather and occasional shower the girls entered into each race with a great spirit. Taking part and having fun was all that mattered - and the sweet after each race of course!
Primary Five really enjoyed their trip to the Ulster Museum last week. The girls have been learning all about the artist Caravaggio. They entered the Creative Classrooms competition and were awarded a certificate for outstanding achievement so of course they just had to visit the artwork in real life while the artworks are in Belfast. The girls also visited Takabuti the Egyptian mummy and had a scavenger hunt. A great day was had by all!
Primary Six had some fun with IZAK9 today. They used it to revise some of the key concepts they have been learning in maths this year, including the ordering of fractions and percentages. There was great problem solving and team work on show as well. Izak9
The Primary One girls used Bee Bot to explore the relationship between numbers. They programmed a short sequence of commands to direct Bee Bot to the target number. What a fun way to practise forwards and backwards and to develop their skills of estimation and calculation.
🎼 Congratulations to these fabulous musicians who all recently passed their Grade One music exams. We had merits and a distinction amongst their results. The girls really deserved this as they have been working incredibly hard with Ms Lagan and Ms Bingham, as well as all the practising they have been doing in their own time. 🎶

As a celebration of their Buddy Up programme, our Primary Three girls joined with their buddies from Wheatfield Primary School for a visit from Wee Critters Interactive Animal Education. The children learned about lots of different animals and even got to hold some of the animals. We think the children were braver than some of the adults. CRIS (Community Relations In Schools)
A huge congratulations to one of our Primary Seven girls, who received a very special award this morning at assembly. She was presented with the Honour the Faith Award by the Order of the Knights of St Columbanus Council C2K. This was awarded for the way she has embodied our Catholic values throughout her seven years at Holy Cross Girls’. We know she will continue to uphold these values in her next school. Knights of St. Columbanus, Belfast CK2
We had a very special guest at assembly today. The girls gave a huge Holy Cross Girls’ welcome to Paddy Burns from Cliftonville Football Club, along with the Irish Cup trophy. The girls asked Paddy lots of interesting questions about his football career, and we are sure he has inspired lots of our (already football crazy) girls!
Well done to all our Ready to Learn girls, who received their certificates at assembly this morning. A huge thank you to Mrs McElroy, Ms Larkin and Miss McElroy for making the Ready to Learn after school so much fun.

Primary Three have been busy looking after their butterflies, which they finally released this week.
Primary Six and Primary Seven had a fun afternoon together using IZAK9. Our Primary Seven girls produced their own Eliminator tasks for IZAK9 along with fabulous videos showcasing their ICT talents. They really got the brain cells working with their range of questions. Primary Six were very impressed and enjoyed working with Primary Seven to solve the puzzles. Izak9
Some of our instrumentalists performed at Royal Avenue with Glengormley Traditional School of Muisc last week. Don’t they sound fabulous! The girls were so good they even performed for the whole school. Maith sibh a chailĂnĂ! You can see more from our musicians on the school website.
It was lovely to welcome Angela, our local Tesco Community Champion, to school today. Our breakfast club girls were able to say thank you for the donation we received from the Tesco Strong Start Community Grants programme, as this has enabled us to provide free breakfasts to our girls this year. Thank you once again to everyone who voted and helped us to secure the grant.
Comhghairdeas to the girls who represented us at the Feis Bhéal Feirste on Saturday. The girls gave up their Saturday morning and performed beautifully at the Feis and we are so proud of them all. Well done girls!
