👣 You will learn some simple reflexology techniques to help calm and soothe your baby and relieve ailments such as colic, reflux, constipation, teething, coughs and colds.

🌈 The beauty of reflexology is that these techniques can be used easily anytime and anywhere without having to remove your baby’s clothing – all you have to do is remove socks and shoes so it can be done discreetly while travelling, when you’re out and about or in the middle of the night.

👣 The techniques can be used on anyone of any age so you can use them as your children get older or even give a lucky partner a treatment! Perhaps they’d like try it on you – hint!

🌈 You will be taught by an expert in the field – an experienced and practising reflexologist who can answer any questions and offer additional advice.

👣 As an added bonus, you will learn some self-care hand and facial reflexology points that you can use to relieve stress and help you to relax.

🌈 Class sizes are kept small deliberately so that everyone is included.

👣 Workshops are held in a warm and cosy treatment room with mats, blankets, and organic massage oil provided for you.

🌈 Plus all the other benefits like baby bonding and making friends with other new parents.

Effect of Reflexology on Infantile Colic.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:

The aim of this study was to explore the effect of reflexology on infantile colic.

DESIGN:

A total of 64 babies with colic were included in this study (n = 31: study group; n = 33: control group). Following a pediatrician's diagnosis, two groups (study and control) were created. Sociodemographic data (including mother's age, educational status, and smoking habits of parents) and medical history of the baby (including gender, birth weight, mode of delivery, time of the onset breastfeeding after birth, and nutrition style) were collected. The Infant Colic Scale (ICS) was used to measure the colic severity in the infants. Reflexology was applied to the study group by the researcher and their mother 2 days a week for 3 weeks. The babies in the control group did not receive reflexology. Assessments were performed before and after the intervention in both groups.

RESULTS:

The groups were similar regarding sociodemographic background and medical history. While there was no difference between the groups in ICS scores before application of reflexology (p > 0.05), the mean ICS score of the study group was significantly lower than that of control group at the end of the intervention (p < 0.001).

CONCLUSION:

Reflexology application for babies suffering from infantile colic may be a promising method to alleviate colic severity. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29676928

Posted • Muscular Development in Babies

At birth a baby has most of their muscle fibres, just like their bones their muscles are small and watery and not fully developed. They will grow in length, breadth and thicken as the baby develops into childhood. Their muscle development depends upon hormones, physical activity and diet.

A baby’s muscles will grow rapidly during the first 18 months, the muscle mass will increase twice as fast as bone mass, and they develop from the inside out and from the head down. Babies gain more control of their muscles between 6-9 months as their nervous system connections continue to form.

To begin with most of a baby’s muscle power is needed for breathing, their respiratory muscles are twice the size of the muscles in their arms, this is why their arms appear so tiny! As a baby becomes more active the muscles in their arms and legs grow quickly. The leg muscles take longer to strengthen and become co-ordinated.

One of the first signs of muscle control movement comes from the neck muscles which lift the head. From around 3 months these muscles may be strong enough for them to lift their head and chest, around 6 months they may be able to sit alone momentarily and by 8 months they may be strong enough to sit unsupported. The leg muscles will be the next area to develop strength enabling them to stand and then walk. The more active a baby becomes the more strength and co-ordination they will have for their motor development.

Congratulation to this month’s Little Soles Club graduates 🎉🥰🌟

I’ve loved working with this fabulous group of mums and babies! This has definitely been a class of very sociable little characters - I feel some lifelong friendships may have begun here!

This week, whilst the babies slept, mums enjoyed a mini facial reflexology session and chose an affirmation card which all coincidentally co-ordinated with babies’ outfits!

Once again the time has flown by and I will miss you all 🥰

TUMMY TIME 💕

Week 2 in The Little Soles Club is all about digestion.

The babies had some of tummy time whilst also enjoying a back massage.

Tummy time is not only beneficial for muscle development and coordination, it also gives the abdominal organs a massage which can help relieve any digestive discomfort such as wind, constipation and colic.

This is the new space where I’ll be focusing on all things related to baby reflexology, including one-to-one sessions and group workshops.

Our sessions will still be based on the Tiny Toes Reflexage Techniques™️ but from now on we’ll have our own identity and special place within my therapy practice.
