Martin Willis Art
I create hyperfocus led, geometric, abstract explosions in pen on paper. My work is the product of m

Need! 😮
I feel I might have taken it a bit too far. Its lines are really really messy and not up to my usual standards, and it is a lot smaller than I usually make, on copier paper, but I had a lot of fun and it is me starting to draw again, finally. Yay! Onto the next!
Insomnia fuelled pencil doodle.
WORK IN PROGRESS
It has been over a year since I last picked up my pens properly. for some reason I was held back. It could have been any one of my issues or my countless other special interests taking priority that was stopping me. I don’t know.
I started this tonight and that is a big step. I have missed making art desperately.
It is still a work in progress, but I began and that’s the main thing.
The artwork of Martin Willis. - Martin Willis Art I am an independent artist based in the midlands of england. My work is a mashup of geometric shapes and chaotic free flowing pen strokes, all done in a measured and precise way. I am open to gallery and sales enquiries.
(Photoshop sketch for future development)
Plans for this piece. I just need to learn how to paint clouds first. 🤣
Start of a dragonfly mech satellite on wood panel. I am imagining white fluffy clouds for wings.
I love the way the white and black pop on this wood.
It’s really scrappy at the moment but it will look clean by the time I’ve finished.
I can see it finished in my head. Excited.
progress.
What started as a quick sketch turned into an evening. This is WAY OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE.
The perspective of the floor is totally wrong, but I somehow feel it works.
Her name is Lola.
A work in progress...
Fine liner and alcohol markers on crappy copier paper.
work in progress
Trying to get back into the habit of drawing again. Once I start it is good, it is the starting that is hard work. This is the night before lasts attempt.
I am working on another now that I am a lot happier with so far.
Hopefully, I’ll be back to posting again regularly soon!
:::: updated pic added, I have gone too far, but it doesn't matter I was just testing how the ink would react to the wood on the grip-tape side ::::
It has been a long time.
I tried something new on a skateboard blank. I’m trying to shake off ‘the precise’ a little and be freer with my abstracts. Never one to colour outside of the lines, this was way out of my comfort zone. It needs some work but I really like the composition, watercolour style and had a lot of fun doing it!
Acrylic and alcohol ink on skateboard.
This just popped up on my memories, a year ago today!! It is still one of my favourites.
EDIT: Pic Update
It's been a long time since I picked up my pens. Something about the change in routine stopped me drawing. I am so glad I pushed through that today and started this. It's been nice to sink back into creating something. It's a work in progress, but wanted to share. I hope you, your families and friends are all safe, coping and well. ❤️
Experiments in 3D.
...AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
This lockdown has seen me start many new projects. This is the latest. I have an interest in model making but I discovered ‘kit-bashing’ on YouTube, taking parts from other models or scratch building components from found items to modify a model kit into something different.
I have spent the last couple of nights making this. All of the big cannons are parts from lighters and pens, the graphics are from a bulk load of stickers I bought to cover the wing of a car after a dent.
The eventual plan is to have it hanging by fine fishing line so it looks like it is floating powered only by the tiny propeller and with legs hanging (see last pic.). The juxtaposition of the underpowered propulsion system and the heavy weight of a massive machine works for me.
It still needs finishing, lots to do, but I am happy so far.
I’m not really into Star Wars but needed something to do.
it changed a little from my previous post. I haven't left it alone. After a creative drought, I feel like there is about to be a flood. I have ideas for my next piece already.
For the last couple of weeks, I haven't felt the urge to create at all. I have started about 3 pieces and abandoned them all completely each time. The isolation has obviously affected me more than I thought it would. Not being creative dragged me down. I keep trying. Today is the first time I have enjoyed drawing for a while,. and I feel refreshed. This is it so far.
I hope you are all staying safe and making the best of this surreal situation.
Work in progress from last night.
I love the orange! It's not finished yet, but I don't want to take it too far beyond this point and still need to clean it up lots. It's missing something flowing out from the main mass (I know what I mean. lol)
Alcohol markers and fine liner on A3 Bristol board.
I started this one a few days ago and it has been so time-consuming but has certainly killed some boredom. It still needs a lot of cleaning up, it's a bit scruffy in places, and the shading isn't done to really give it depth, but I am happy with it so far.
I hope all of you and your families are inside and well. This situation we are all in is surreal. It's something I never imagined happening. Keep safe.
EDIT:: Pic replaced with progress making the work less heavy and with more form.
Lazy Saturday scribbling. This is my efforts so far. It still needs something, I don't know what yet, but it will come to me.

Current work in progress... it’s a nice one but I cannot decide which way to orientate it. This was my first choice but horizontally with the cubes escaping from the bottom also works.

It’s getting there. I never know when to stop, but I am thinking that I should just put this one down soon. Maybe? It has been a fun drawing to do.

I bought a set of acrylics, that arrived yesterday for a course I am doing. I haven’t really touched paint since school, 25 years ago, so decided to just play with them rather than pressuring myself into painting something real. Wow, painting abstracts is hard!!! This is about the 8th time the canvas board has been covered over.
New work in progress. It's been in a long time since I did something intertwining and complex. It made my brain hurt!!
I took delivery of paints, brushes and a few canvases to play with today. I haven't painted since school really, so am looking forward to trying something fresh and on a bigger scale.
