🎸Our students rocked at Bosfest!
🤖Our Robot Wars Club competed in the Robot Wars Regional Finals, hosted at The Hinckley School on Friday 14th June, after building and refining their robots for nearly a year in preparation!
🕹Our competitors performed incredibly in tough battles against challengers from four local schools. Our skill level of robot production and driving really proved the deciding factors, as students from The Hinckley School won both of the trophies on offer!
🏆James and his robot won the overall 1 v 1 Cup Competition, while Hugh and his robot managed to put on an impressive show of skill by progressing through the tournament twice to secure the second title of the day!
🌟A fantastic day for all involved, our roboteers will now progress to the finals at MarchantCain in Coventry, in early July.
⚙️Many thanks to Mr Harrison for his brilliant robotic building knowledge and Mr Anderson for his engineering expertise. Well done everyone!
- Mr C Holmes, Head of Computer Science.

In their Classics lessons, our Year 8 students have been exploring The Odyssey and over half term students in Miss Mathieson's class were asked to make a creative response to their favourite part of the story. We have been extremely impressed with their work and just had to share a photo of this incredible cake version of Odysseus' boat amidst Scylla and Charybdis made by Olivia! It's great to see the creativity and dedication of our students in their extra curricular work.
KS3 SUMMER ART CHALLENGE - We have launched a new Art, Craft and Design competition for our KS3 students! Ms Webster would like students to create 'Explorer Diaries' about their Summer, whatever that may look like - going on holiday, playing in the garden, visiting family or unwinding at home.
🖌We want students in Year 7, 8 and 9 to get creative and present their 'diary' in a format of their choice. All entries will be awarded a PRIDE token and a judging panel will award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for effort, creativity, fusion of specialisms (art and textiles for example), challenge and development of skills.
🧑🎨We can't wait to see and share your masterpieces!
☀️Deadline – 3pm on Friday 30th August. Submissions to be handed to Miss Webster in D7.
👀Look our for more creative competitions in our newsletter 'Competition Corner' !
In GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition, our Year 10 students were tasked with choosing a complex skilled recipe that was low in sodium and high in calcium, following on from their lesson on Micronutrients and as you can see their final dishes are very impressive! Students will now go on to evaluate the nutritional content of their dishes using a nutrient analyser IT package. Keep up the great work Year 10! 🧑🍳🍽
✖️Did you know that today is National Numeracy Day? ➗
To mark the occasion, and in addition to our recent whole year group numeracy assemblies, our Year 7 students students enjoyed a 'Minions vs Dinosaurs' numeracy lesson with Mr Hall during period 1 and 2 today. In each action packed session, the students were taken through a balance sheet that incorporated many mathematical skills such as; multiplication, addition, subtraction, probability, percentages and rounding.
Year 8 are enjoying their 'Medical Mavericks' workshop today! Our Gateway students are getting hands on while learning about careers in medicine, taking an ECG, trying their hand at key hole surgery, taking blood, performing ultrasounds and much more! Thank you to Medical Mavericks for such an inspiring day! 🧑⚕️
It was great to see our Year 11 students trying new revision techniques in their period 5 MFL session yesterday! Ms Garcia brought colour and movement to the class to help motivate and refresh students knowledge retrieval practice. The group inflated balloons and used each one as a category, including connectives, opinions and time phrases, every 30 seconds students threw their balloon to someone else to add a different sentence into that category using a whiteboard maker.
⭐️Well done Year 11 and thank you Ms Garcia for such a creative revision idea!
As part of their work linked to the Artist Zaha Hadid, our Year 10 3D Design students have been looking at architecture and how it follows organic forms. Today, using their sample designs and inspiration from research, they tried their hand at wood carving for the first time. After this brilliant lesson, the group will now move on to carving their final piece next week.
We were thrilled to welcome Mike Flack from Wize Up Financial Education to The Hinckley Sixth Form Form this week, to deliver an insightful and engaging session about the intriguing and evolving world of cryptocurrencies. We look forward to further collaborations in the future as we continue to empower our students with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate the complexities of the modern financial world.
Last week, Year 9 3D Design students finalised their 3D clay sculptures inspired by Japanese Koi, Dragon and Panda Bears.
The task enabled them to explore the potential and limitations of constructing forms using thumb and pinch pots with hollow centres, making appropriate selections to support the final structure. They also further developed the application of surface qualities representative of texture and scales. Well done Year 9 - really detailed work and effective use of techniques! ⭐️

The Hinckley School has kindly been gifted a set of our old school newsletters, the earliest of which dates back to 1944! ‘The Hinckleyan’, The Hinckley Grammar School’s original newsletter gives an incredible insight into our history as a school and features articles written in Latin, poetry, comic strips, illustrations of school buildings and sports fixtures. These editions also feature lists of former students who were on active service at the time.
These delicate newsletters are now on display here at The Hinckley School, sitting pride of place in our Main Reception for everyone to enjoy. We encourage any members of our community interested in
getting up close with such wonderful historical items of particular local interest to come along and take a look for themselves.
