Drawing updates - on to the bricks! 🧱
Please get in touch with any commissions requests! 🏠
Work has begun on the latest drawing, another beautiful home in the British countryside 🏡
Before I start I normally draw a rough sketch of the building with the image dimensions to make sure the proportions are right, then multiply them so they fit to the page size that I’m working on. Seems a bit complicated but figured it was one of the best ways to keep the drawing as accurate as possible…? (I’m still working on drawing purely by sight, maybe one day…)
Finished piece. I’m open for some new commissions so please get in touch! 📧📲 📬 ✍🏻
Kearton Country Hotel 🥾🍺🛌🍳
Keartons is a small but historic stone built country hotel situated in the village of Thwaite, nestled in the Swaledale valley of the Yorkshire Dales.
Located on the Pennine Way between Hawes and Keld (great falls at Wain Wath Force), this hotel and café/restaurant is a popular spot for hikers, cyclists and those exploring the Dales by car and motorbike. All next door to one of my favourite parts of the country in Cumbria and the Lake District. ❤️

A pleasure working on this commission, a wedding gift of Newcastle University’s famous arches, the location where this couple met. 👫
Please let me know if you have a commission idea. Drop me a message on insta or send me a request via my website. I’d love to help. 🤝
Built in a neo-Jacobean style, the arches include a bronze statue to commemorate King Edward VII. Today the Arches and their surrounding buildings form part of the Hatton Gallery, but in 1911 they functioned as part of the King Edward VII School of Art.
The Arches, Newcastle University 📚
Constructed in 1911, this iconic symbol of Newcastle University features a pair of arches within a 3 storey red brick building leading into the Quadrangle.
The Arches owe their existence to a donation made by John Bell Simpson, a North East mining magnate. Today it is a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England.
The Calile, Brisbane 📍
-
My favourite hotel in the city, located on James Street in Fortitude Valley, the 175-bedroom luxury hotel was designed by Richards and Spence and completed in 2018.
-
Coined as Australia’s first ‘Urban Resort’, the hotel took inspiration from the architecture of Palm Springs, designed to be an oasis in this busy city district with its rooftop pool cabana and open retail and dining experiences on the ground floors.
-
I love the arched entrance points, planters on balconies and use of white stone and exposed concrete. Great bars too! 🌿🏖️🍸🏨🛟🔑
-
Spicers Peak Lodge ⛰️ 🍷 ✨
-
From city to countryside. This is a beautiful lodge in Maryvale, Queensland’s High Country. The luxury lodge is set atop a mountain at 1,100m elevation and is Australias highest non-Alpine mountain lodge, enveloped by the World Heritage listed Main Range National Park and the Great Dividing Range.

Aussie icons in the making… 🇦🇺

A few of the taller 5-star hotels from this recent project, located in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Any guesses?
-
Emporium Hotel Brisbane 🏨
-
The first in a small series of some of Australias best known luxury hotels! The Emporium Hotel opened in 2018 and formed the final phase of the major $600m Southpoint precinct on the South Bank in the heart of Brisbane. The 5-star, 143 bedroom boutique hotel with its iconic roof terrace and 220 serviced residences has since won ‘Australia’s Leading Boutique Hotel’ at the 2019 World Travel Awards as well as ‘Australia’s Leading Hotel Residences’ in 2018 and 2019.

Please get in touch with any drawings requests. I would love to draw some more pubs!
-
Friendship Inn 🍺🤝🏻🇬🇧
-
This commission is a wedding gift for a couple that met in this pub. I love hearing stories like this and it just makes you think about all of the great nights and memories (many hazy ones) that people from around the world have made in pubs across the country… 💭🍻🎯
-
The most recent estimates by the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) state that there are approximately 45,000 pubs across the UK, down from 55,000 pubs 10 years earlier. They are a fundamental part of British culture so we need to make sure we save as many as possible!
-
Finishing touches… ✍🏻
-
Satisfying seeing this come together. The shading on the bricks always brings it to life at the end.
-
P.S. this song is pretty funny if you haven’t heard it. Even though this isn’t a Spoons, it’s just about being down the pub with your mates so I thought fitting. 😅🍺
-
A few from the latest. ✍🏻
-
This is the first pub I’ve drawn since starting and hopefully the first of many. I’ve never come across a pub called the Friendship Inn before… but a few people in the know have told me what a great boozer this is in South Manchester! 🍻

34 Foubert’s Place, Soho, W1 📍
-
Great to be drawing a building in a familiar spot (one of my favourite London pubs, The White Horse, is just down the road). 🍻
-
Foubert’s Place is a quaint cobbled road just off Carnaby Street, one of central Londons most vibrant districts. This corner commercial building is fully occupied by Molinare, a film production company. The drawing is a commission for a recent transaction of the property. 🤝🏻
-
Fun fact: opposite this building is Marshall Street Leisure Centre, a Grade II listed property and one of London’s most central public pools! 🏊🏼♂️
-
Back at the desk after a brief hiatus! The latest drawing I am working on is a commercial building tucked away down a cobbled street in Soho.📍
-
Enjoying the use of some old school perspective lines again. It took a couple of goes to get the right angle on one side of the building (as you might be able to see), but got there in the end. 📐
-
The drawing is in A4, but I have overlayed it on a larger A3 sheet in order to draw the vanishing points off the page. 📄

Happy New Year! 🎉✍🏻💭

Final version of the last drawing in 2023 - Elmore Court in Gloucestershire. I am taking on new commissions for 2024 so please get in touch with any ideas!

A few more details from Elmore Court. 📐
-
The two and three storey limestone house was built between 1564 and 1588 and altered in the 18th and 19th centuries, with an impressive porch and unique stained glass windows.
