Whilst I applaud any steps to improving building standards I read an article the other day about the lifespan of solar panels and the lack of recycling options. However, I’m sure this is something that we’ll figure out in time.

This is a step closer to building to a passivhaus standard. Let’s just jump straight to that, shall we?

Fantastic day at Scandia-Hus Ltd in East Grinstead on Saturday. Great turn out for the Open house day and the team at the ready to answer all of your questions. These homes are just beautiful and comfortable (that word kept coming up.) and I was really impressed with the service that if offered BEFORE you even purchase anything from them.

I think this is one of my favourites.

Everyone's affected by the fuel hikes. How are you handling it?

From the Tudor properties in Statford-upon-Avon to the new builds at Graven Hill, Bicester. It's been lovely viewing the different architecture styles and construction methods. Some like it, some loathe it. You'll get that no matter what. For me, it's more important to get the inside right and that it's designed for how you live.

Finally. The new building regs will come into effect on the 15th June. A huge step in the right direction. It's our job as developers to do what we can to build homes that are comfortable and efficient to run reducing our CO2 impact on the environment.

It was inevitable that the government was going to start looking into this. Make it less attractive for investors to be landlords, they'll find a different way to invest their money. Watch this space. I see additional taxes on the horizon for those owning holiday lets.

Well done Norwich 👏🏼 As part of their Greater Local Plan all housing developments of 40 dwellings or more need to dedicate at least 5% of those homes as self build or custom build plots.
With the government providing £5M to councils to support self and custom build projects and a further £20m to help accelerate the self and custom build sector, who knows, we might even see more self build plots down here in Hampshire. ...but will they be affordable 🤔

Remembrance Day 2021

When will the novelty of seeing people in person ware off?
Had a great day yesterday at the Property Investors Show and met and Damon Walford. After a year behind Zoom, finally met my fellow Aspire grads and . Big hugs we shared all around and it was great 🥰

Its brilliant that London Councils want to achieve net zero in all London homes by 2030. 🌎 Its a big task. But look at the numbers...

🔸400,000 London homes with single glazed windows.
🔸17% in conservation areas which have a high number of historic homes
🔸1.5m that require door and window upgrades

But going green is pricey, at the moment. This will come down in time. 🤞🏼

The first green grant was a flop. Too short a window, difficult to get and next to impossible execute.

✳️ There needs to be a better more accessible grant to incentivize homeowners to carryout the upgrades.
✳️ There should also be a grant for specific low carbon products that SME builders should use on their new builds. The prices are coming down but at the moment the numbers are tight.
✳️ Finally, the building standards and regulation needs a overhaul. Until the government tells their 10 home building buddies that they have to build sustainably, and meet low carbon standards, etc. they won't. ...they just won't. 🙁
