Some happy campers achieving their NICAS level 1 at . Great work over the last 3 weeks.
A reminder to always be prepared for all four seasons in a day! Forecast to be a relatively mild night we ended up with a dumping of snow and very low temps! Luckily Core range is our go to thermal choice so we were toasty in our surprise winter wonderland wild camp
We gave our legs a rest today and hit the water for the official opening of Stockingfield Bridge on the Forth and Clyde Canal round the corner from the house. Lots of walkers, cyclists, paddle boarders, and kayakers turned up for a great light show, lanterns, and fire spinners.
We know we’ve left you hanging but wait no more as the final word on what we did/didn’t do is live! So the Southern Upland Way definitely didn’t go as planned but we believe it is important to share stories of lesser success too, and our friends at DexShell UK agreed. Read about our misadventures!

Spent the day counting every single gram for our FKT attempt. We know the weight of all our food down to the last fruit roll. I even weight my pants 😂 and we chopped our toothbrushes in half! It’s all coming together slowly but surely. It’s also all becoming very real too. Can’t explain how amazing it’s been to be supported or helped on this journey by , , .uk, and . Good nerves but nerves non the less! Let’s do this!
After waiting over 2 years Meg and I are finally on honeymoon and over in South Africa spending some long over due time with family and friends. As well as relaxing with good company and wine we’re also out exploring, running, hiking, camping and racing at ! Here’s some pics from our first week of excitement and training. More to follow
Fantastic hike around the Pentlands today with and her husband Syd! Fantastic chats for the whole time we were out plus forgiving weather made for such a fun day out.
Massive thanks to .studio for some new tee’s to test! Made with CoolYarn it’s naturally cooling, tencel botanic-derived fibre and breathable merino engineered for warmer climates. Looking forward to wearing and testing these out.
Home from a fantastic weekend in Grasmere for Grasmere Gallop. Already booked the days off for next years and I’m organising a huge team entry! My first race of the year and also first run since my hip went boom. Managed a sub 2hr time for my race which wasn’t my intention when I started. I just wanted to finish! So proud of who managed a top 25 finish in the womens category. Goal next year is to get around the course in sub 1.5hrs. Got to catch up with some awesome people who I haven’t seen for ages either! Thanks to for a fantastic week and for the cleanest portaloo’s I’ve ever been in!
Off to Grassmere Gallop this weekend. First race of the season and it comes at just the perfect time! Beer is packed, bacon has been forgotten 😂 spirits are high and my (Bex) hip will hopefully hold up for this race!
Ambitious ideas is our middle name and our curse. While we had great intentions of running 70+km over 2 days through the Trossachs from Drymen via Aberfoyle and down the West Highland Way, fate, fitness and an old injury were not on our side. Fortunately we had a blast running 35km through beautiful forests and even found a hidden gem of a river for a wild camp. A hard day fought and small walk out the next day after rinsing through Plans A to D and popping out at Rowardennan to be rescued by a friend after Bex’s hip said ‘No more!!’. Not what we’d planned but was definitely worth it and we’ll be back for revenge! Great way to test all our kit and our bodies.
Fantastic day out on the hill Assessing a T1 walking leader permit for Rope Spoke & Paddle today! Brilliant scout leaders who were all super enthusiastic and knowledgable. It was like being out walking with friends. Well done to everyone for passing.
Great evening on weds running an intro to outdoor climbing skills for Fiona. She’s off to Switzerland for the summer and just wanted to build a good base knowledge of rope skills. The weather was kind and the crag was busy. Meg was using this as a shadow session building towards her RCI assessment.
A quick trip to the Pentland Hills Regional Park to do a route check for an upcoming history and heritage walk. Bit blowy and rainy, so a proper spring day all round 🙃 If you want to explore these hills with us get in touch!
Let’s talk sleeping system. All the way from tent to pillow!
First up - tents! I’ve been in the outdoor industry for a while and have gone from huge, bulky and unable to fit into my bag to my current tent. My current humble abode is one gifted to me by the wonderful , their Telemark 2 LW. Meg and I have used it already for some multi day running trips and tester trips. This tent comes in at 950g, less than a litre of water. Its super compact and the poles measure just a smidge over 30cm meaning they fit perfectly into everything including my running pack. It’s a two man tent with room to spare. The inner can also be made smaller to make the vestibule a bit bigger if I’m in there myself with lots of stuff. The corner poles also come out and fit together to make a door pole (pretty ingenious if you ask me). I have to say this has by far been my favourite tent to go on adventures with. Size, weight and durability I feel super safe taking this tent out in any weather.
Great to be out climbing today. This time with the lovely Stevenson’s clan. A belay refresher for mum so she can take the kids to the climbing centre with a bit more confidence. Brilliant morning
7 very happy Sea Cadets tonight. Well done on achieving your NICAS level 1. 3 nights of really hard work paid off. So lovely to work for Rope Spoke & Paddle again too!
Delivered the first of three NICAS level 1 sessions for Rope Spoke & Paddle tonight at the East Kilbride wall. East Kilbride sea cadets were on top form and really pushing their comfort levels! Brilliant first session, looking forward to the next two!

First private client of the year. Nice way to kick off what looks to be a busy year for Beneath Your Feet Adventures. Big thanks to Corinne for a fun evening. Turns out there’s some serious natural talent there !
Great day spent with in Perth learning the ropes (pun intended) for making climbing as accessible as possible on the Climbing for All course. Easy to follow instructing with great new techniques for inclusive activities.
Preparing for a big run tomorrow. Lots of km’s to do for the still. Won’t lie my body is feeling the 300km I’ve done so far in 22 days. However, my legs are looking FABULOUS ! Been a great challenge so far and I’m so determined to complete it. in the soft flasks but for after!
Great tootle along the Rover Kelvin and then Allander Water with and . It was a tad muddy in some places so I’m glad I had my S/Lab Sense SG’s on, otherwise I’d have been on my bum a fair few times. Meg was testing out her new waist belt too! That run takes me to almost 100km this week. One more run tomorrow to finish off my week.
Tuesday Trossachs 20km Tootle. The Core Hoodies really came into their own today as the temp dipped dramatically. Amazing bit of kit!
Let’s talk exped running bags. Meg and I have a plethora of bags that we use for running, walking, climbing and water sports. We like to think we now know enough to know exactly what we like and what we need for our sports. When it came to choosing a bag for our multi day exped running adventures we did a lot of looking and researching and both chose bags. I went for the XA 35. It has mountains of space inside and out. I would have preferred the red colour but only the grey was left. Three of my fav features of this bag are, the adjustable strapping system on the front. As a bigger chested lady finding bags that fit with that is quite tough. This is a great system by Salomon. The fact it’s a roll top! I love it for its quickness and ease, and finally the massive expandable front pouch. Meg went for the 28+5w Out Night. She loves the fit and feel of it with the shorter back being a big selling point. Her three fav features are the fact she can get into the bag from the side. Cutting down time for getting in and out the bag. Another lover of the expanding pocket. This bag comes with one too for stuffing everything you can into it. Finally it’s hip pockets. Again for ease of access and for sticking in gels and energy bars. We’ve tried the bags a few times now including some nice over night camps. They’ll be used and abused loads this year with many a race and challenge coming up! Already excited 😆
Merry Christmas from us here at Beneath Your Feet Adventures! Hope you all have a fantastic day with lots of food and family time!
GEAR CHAT - Shoes, shoes and never enough shoes.
Bex here! As someone new to the whole running malarkey I was thrilled to learn about all the different shoes. I’m a gear lover, coming from an outdoor instructor background, and the thought of browsing, researching and using lots of different shoes filled me with a deep joy but also made my bank account weep 😂. I have many different choices now but my current go to shoes for trail are my S/Lab Ultra 3’s. Quite simply the best shoe that has ever graced my fat feet! I’ve ran over 600km in these and that includes setting an FKT on the Dava Way! I’ve tried loads of different branded shoes and found that the bold are just bloody perfect! Although the Glides which I had hoped to wear for a big FKT challenge next year are a bit on the narrow side so I’m having to rethink that. My go to roadies at the minute are the supernova’s. So comfy! I also occasionally wear my shoes but the zero drop doesn’t quite suit my feet. I dropped from 8mm, to 6mm to 4mm before giving the zero drop shoe a try but it was perhaps a drop too far. I’m now contemplating switching my trail shoes to the Terrex Speed collection after having such a great experience with the roadies. Shoes are really a personal preference and what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for another. So go out to the your local shop, try on a few and see what’s works. It’s trial and error but definitely worth the time and research
