A massive congratulations to Zara who passed her driving test today on her 1st attempt with only a few dfs!! A little bit of Taylor Swift before her test settled those nerves perfectly!! Zara struggled with nerves and anxiety at times but we worked hard to build her confidence, resulting in today's pass!! Will miss our Monday morning lesson, was always a nice way to start the week!! Second test this week, second pass!! A huge congratulations to Robyn who passed her test this morning at Aberdeen North, recording only 2 driving faults!! A fantastic drive in what was very poor visibility and rain. Really great remarks from the examiner too!! Was very impressed how calm Robyn was, knowing how nervous she felt. Morning everyone. Due to the weather conditions today, I've taken the decision to cancel all lessons due to safety issues. I've contacted all pupils affected and made plans to rearrange. Stay safe today everyone.

“But I think I can pass the test”

The practical test is the MINIMUM standard. Evidence show that many, especially younger drivers, pick up practical skills quickly. But it takes time to develop the experience & situational based skills. These cannot be hurried.

So,
Parents:
Please find a good instructor that will work with you to achieve LIFE LONG, not Test based, success.

Learners:
Be engaged in your lessons and own your mistakes. We aren’t looking for ‘perfect’, but ‘good enough’ is essential!
Talk to your instructor about ways to maximise your experience and skills.

Driving instructors:
If they aren’t ready, don’t take them!
We support you making that incredibly hard call and potentially saving lives in the future.

“I want them to have a go, they might be lucky and pass”
EXACTLY, that is our biggest worry. Be ready and unlucky - that’s annoying and we can retake it. But NOT ready and lucky - scraping a MINIMUM standard, that could be life changing in the wrong way.

Yes, test waiting lists are challenging
Yes, it is expensive to develop safe driving skills
Yes, you might pass!
However - Instructors are there to help you navigate this minefield. Find a good one and work with them towards success for life.

Big congratulations to Daniel who passed his driving test at Aberdeen South on 8/12/23. A lovely drive given with only a few driving faults recorded. Daniel completed a week's intensive course and although he just failed on his first attempt, used this as motivation and a couple of top up lessons to get through second time around.
