Today is National Scotch Day in the U.S, held annually on July 27, which presents the iconic whiskey. This elegant and unique spirit must be made in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 as it is considered Scotch. It must be aged for at least 3 years in fermented oak barrels from malted barley to have an ABV or alcohol content of less than 94.8%. Most scotch is made from barley, water and yeast, but may contain other grains. All fermentation additives are excluded under the Scotch Whisky Act. There are five classifications of Scotch Whiskey: Single Malt Scotch, Single Grain Scotch, Blended Malt Scotch, Blended Grain Scotch, Blended Scotch. Scotch is often identified by the region in which it was produced, and each region has unique characteristics that affect its taste. Despite being scotch made in Scotland you can enjoy the spirit everywhere. So here we want to celebrate with our brothers and sisters over the pond we may be in the U.K but any reason to drink whisky is a good reason to us 👍🏼, we advise to drink whilst wearing a kilt 🦡🥃🦡🥃🦡🥃🦡🥃

July 12 is national simplicity day. July 12 is to commemorate the birthday of Henry David Thoreau, who was born in 1817.

Origins of April Fools' Day

Some historians speculate that April Fools’ Day dates back to 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, as called for by the Council of Trent in 1563. In the Julian Calendar, as in the Hindu calendar, the new year began with the spring equinox around April 1.
People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes and were called “April fools.” These pranks included having paper fish placed on their backs and being referred to as “poisson d’avril” (April fish), said to symbolize a young, easily caught fish and a gullible person.

History of April Fools’ Day

April Fools’ Day spread throughout Britain during the 18th century. In Scotland, the tradition became a two-day event, starting with “hunting the gowk,” in which people were sent on phony errands (gowk is a word for cuckoo bird, a symbol for fool) and followed by Tailie Day, which involved pranks played on people’s derrieres, such as pinning fake tails or “kick me” signs on them.

The beautiful people at Dark Woods have been dabbling in some dark magic and have managed to get some of their marvellous coffee into some of the Nespresso pods. So for the first time ever you lucky Nespresso users can now also have access to some of the most fantastic coffees from some of the best producers in the world. So the team here at The Blind Badger was wondering if we got some into stock, is there any Nespresso users out there that would be interested in purchasing them? They come in boxes of 10 pods and retail at £6 per box plus delivery. They have a 12-month shelf life too.
