Wrights Saffron Walden

Wrights Saffron Walden is the 7th and newest addition to the Herts & Essex Foods Group! We purchased the shop in early 2022, previously called Ho’s Fish & Chips.

Wrights underwent a full refurbishment to modernise the shop and get it ready for a grand reopening.

We installed a brand new custom built KFE Ltd range fryer as part of the renovations which allowed us to offer Gluten Free all day every day!

Wrights has gone from strength to strength after opening on the 8th December 2022 and is already in close competition to become the busiest shop in our group!

Wrights has become hugely popular with the people of Saffron Walden, especially thanks to our Gluten Free Range and new Delivery Service!

The Lighthouse Ware

The Lighthouse, Ware was the sixth shop to be taken over by Herts & Essex Foods and is our second shop in the town of Ware.

The Lighthouse was our fourth Lighthouse Branded Shop. And is just around the corner from our original shop Wrights Fish and Chips

The Lighthouse has recently become our latest shop to offer Gluten Free which is already proving popular to the people of Ware!

Percy’s at the Lighthouse

Percy’s At The Lighthouse was the fifth shop to join Herts & Essex Foods and was the third to be a part of our Lighthouse Brand.

Percy’s was taken over in June 2022 and was a newly refurbished shop at the time we took over.

Percy’s is in the heart of the Kings Reach Estate in Biggleswade with an amazing community of people and local businesses.

Percy’s is our third shop to offer Gluten Free and has built up a great reputation within the local community.

The Golden Fillet

The Golden Fillet was the fourth shop to be acquired by Herts & Essex Foods, and is our only shop with a restaurant!

The Golden Fillet was taken over January 2022 and reopened in April 2022 after a devastating fire just before Christmas 2021.

The Golden Fillet was previously owned by the Cook Family who took over the shop in 1994. Paul and Lisa Cook ran The Golden Fillet for over 27 years and built up an outstanding reputation with locals and holiday makers over the years. Paul Cook unfortunately passed away in 2020, and from then the shop was run by Lisa and her son Joe.

As many of you know, Joe is now the Area Manager for Herts & Essex Foods, helping us to keep up The Golden Fillet Standards and reputation built by his family.

The Golden Fillet is our second shop in the seaside town of Clacton On Sea, just down the road from Colin's at the Lighthouse

Colin's at the Lighthouse

Colin’s At The Lighthouse was the third shop to be acquired by Herts & Essex Foods and was the first of our shops in Clacton On Sea.

Colin’s underwent a huge refurbishment to modernise the shop and make it what it is today! We installed a brand new KFE Ltd Range Fryer which we had custom made to allow us to serve Gluten Free products all day every day!

Fun fact about Colin’s, it was once called ‘Colin’s Battered Sausage’ which some people find amusing 👀😂

Colin’s was a nominee in the 2022 North Essex Fish & Chip Shop Awards, in 2023 it’s our goal to be No.1, watch out The Golden Fillet they’re coming for your title 😉

Cox’s at the Lighthouse

Cox’s At The Lighthouse was the second addition to the Herts & Essex Foods family back in October 2021 and was the start of The Lighthouse Brand.

Cox’s At The Lighthouse is situated in the new Loves Farm Development in St Neots, surrounded by a lovely community spirit. Cox’s was previously ran by Mick Cox who developed an amazing business and customer base, which we are proud to be carrying on for him today.

Cox’s was our first shop to offer Gluten Free Fish & Chips which has always been popular and is now served in 5 out of 7 of our shops!

Wrights Fish and Chips

Wrights of Ware is our oldest shop! It was the first shop to be acquired by Herts & Essex Foods back in 2018 but has been running since 1933! Making it 90 years old this year! 😵

Wrights is expertly ran by Neil who has been with Wrights for 40 years! I’m sure many of you are familiar with Neil and the delicious food he produces, he is one of the best fryers in the business!

Wrights is situated in a Grade 2 Listed Building which comes with a lot of history and really gives the proper traditional feeling to a British Fish & Chip Shop
