TWO TOP TIPS FOR MANAGING THE CHANGE OF SEASONS 🙂

As the seasons change and it gets colder we can stay resilient by focusing on hydration. Autumn and the metal element are associated with dryness. The best way to stay hydrated is warm, wet foods. Soups, stews and congees are time-release hydration, sitting in the stomach for longer than water does. Water is more clearing than hydrating. If we add trace mineral drops to our water it introduces more yin and makes it more hydrating too.

For optimal health, water ought to be drunk hot- all year round! It uses up a lot of Stomach Qi to warm cold water up and can create pathological Stomach Heat if we drink cold water or eat cold foods.

Lets stay well this autumn by dressing appropriately for the colder weather! Wearing shorts and t shirts outside when the temperature drops, exposes us to the elements and encourages what the Chinese call "invasions of pathogenic factors" such as Wind and Cold (Otherwise known as "colds" in Western Medicine). By keeping wrapped up when we are outside we are also protecting important areas of the body like the neck, where many acupuncture points and "gateways" to the interior are.

🍂Autumn has traditionally been a season of harvesting and preparing for the winter months ahead.

In Five Element Acupuncture, the Metal ⚙️ element symbolises clarity, structure, and transformation. Just like autumn helps us release old leaves, the Metal element helps us let go of what no longer serves us, making room for new inspiration and inner strength.

When this element is balanced, we experience a deep sense of self-worth, connection, and the ability to appreciate beauty in life.
When out of balance, it may show up as grief, difficulty letting go, or feeling stuck.

While modern life may not be as influenced by the changing seasons in terms of where we go, what we do, or what we eat, it's still important to align ourselves with nature's rhythms when it comes to our health and well-being.

This is the perfect time to nourish our bodies, declutter our spaces, and find mental clarity. It's a season for reflection, stillness, and turning inward. By tapping into autumn's natural energy, we can tackle tasks we've set aside and cultivate a sense of peace as we transition into the colder months ✨🍁

Key Attributes 🍂🍁

Emotions: Grief

Let acupuncture help align your Metal element, bringing peace, clarity, and spiritual connection into your life ✨🤍

You know we love a good testimonial for great work, and here is one well deserved for our acupuncturist Philippa Brant.

“Philippa is amazing!
I started going to see Philippa as I had sciatica in both legs, my right leg now has no pain at all and my left leg has very minimal pain.
Philippa has recently been treating the pain I have which I now know is caused by a endometrioma, the difference is unbelievable. The pain is minimal and periods are a lot more manageable.
I would highly recommend Philippa, she is not only awesome at what she does but makes you feel comfortable and completely at ease during your session”.

Exploring the Earth Element in Five Element Acupuncture🌏🌼

In Five Element Acupuncture, the Earth element is the foundation of balance and nourishment. Representing the late summer, Earth embodies stability, grounding and a nurturing spirit. It’s the element that helps us feel centred, cared for, and connected to those around us.

Earth energy is linked to the organs of the Spleen and Stomach, governing digestion and the ability to absorb not just food, but also experiences and emotions. When Earth is in harmony, we feel a deep sense of inner peace and belonging. But when out of balance, we may feel anxious, overthink, or struggle with digestion.
Just as the Earth provides for all life, this element in acupuncture teaches us the importance of self-care, creating harmony in our relationships, and cultivating a strong foundation within ourselves. Whether through mindful eating, spending time in nature, or embracing routine, we can nourish our Earth element and find greater balance in our lives.✨

What is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping therapy is an ancient Chinese medicine technique that uses specially designed cups on the skin to create suction. Cupping can be used alongside acupuncture, or as its own treatment

Cupping increases blood circulation in the treated areas, potentially improving tissue oxygenation and nutrient supply. Enhanced blood flow may aid in removing metabolic waste products, reducing muscle soreness and tension.

Some studies suggest that cupping has anti-inflammatory effects, which can be relevant for managing pain associated with inflammatory conditions.

It influences the autonomic nervous system, leading to relaxation and reduced stress. By modulating the nervous system, cupping may help alleviate pain related to tension and stress.

It can stimulate the fascia and connective tissues, potentially triggering a release of tension and promoting healing.

Cupping can also help with the following…
• Drains excess fluids and toxins
• Loosens adhesions
• Revitalises connective tissue
• Increases blood flow to skin and muscles
• Stimulates the peripheral nervous system
• Reduces pain
• Controls high blood pressure
• Modulates the immune system

✨ Discover the Ancient Art of Gua Sha ✨

Gua sha (pronounced Gwah-shah) originated in ancient China and is one of the oldest forms of Traditional Chinese medicine ever recorded, with historical records dating back to the Stone Age 🤯

Gua Sha — “Gua” means “scrape” while ‘Sha’ is the “redness of skin”.

This traditional Chinese healing practice involves gently scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool, like a jade or rose quartz, scraping away disease, fever, muscle tension, and can help to boost the immune system.

When Qi become blocked there can be pain or tension in the muscles and joints.

Gua sha aims to move this blocked energy to relieve aches or stiffness and also reduces inflammation 💥

Take a look below 👇to see full article of benefits from recent studies into this Chinese healing modality

Migraine and headache awareness month

Acupuncture is often used as a complementary treatment for migraines and has been shown to be effective in reducing both the frequency and intensity of migraine attacks.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommend acupuncture for the treatment of migraines and other types of headaches.

Studies have shown that acupuncture can be as effective as conventional treatments for preventing migraines and reducing their frequency and severity .

How Acupuncture Helps with Migraines:
• Regulates Nervous System: Acupuncture can modulate the nervous system, which may help reduce the pain and frequency of migraines by calming the pathways that transmit pain signals.
• Improves Blood Flow: It promotes better blood circulation, which can help alleviate migraine symptoms by ensuring that the brain receives an adequate supply of oxygen and nutrients.
• Reduces Stress and Tension: Stress is a common trigger for migraines and headaches. Acupuncture encourages the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers, which can reduce stress, promote a sense of well-being, and can help prevent migraines.
• Balances Hormones: Hormonal imbalances can trigger migraines, especially in women.

Acupuncture can help balance hormone levels, potentially reducing migraine occurrences.
• Alleviates Pain: By stimulating specific points, acupuncture can directly relieve pain and decrease the intensity of migraine attacks.

Acupuncture offers a natural and holistic approach to managing migraines, potentially reducing reliance on medication, and improving quality of life for those suffering from chronic headaches.

If you'd like to discuss how acupuncture might help you or if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact our acupuncturist Philippa Brant via the page or website!

One of the most common questions we get asked is "does acupuncture hurt?"

Centre Acupuncturist Philippa Brant's straight forward answer is "no."

Acupuncture needles are much thinner than those used for drawing blood or administering vaccinations. They are six to ten times thinner, resulting in significantly less pain.

The needles she uses at the clinic are of the highest quality. Their smoothness and sharpness ensure minimal stimulation to the nerve pain fibres, which translates to less pain. Depending on the location of the point, you may feel a slight pinprick or nothing at all.

After insertion, you might experience a sensation known in Chinese Medicine as "De qi." This feeling can vary and may include tingling, numbness, heaviness, warmth, coolness, pressure, or sometimes a mild ache. It's more of a sensation than actual pain.

If you've been avoiding acupuncture due to a fear of needles, rest assured that the reality is far less daunting than you imagine!
