ALBUM NEWS

We are (finally) on!!

We've been working our little socks off ready to start recording at Chem19 Studio tomorrow. What a joy it's been already. Still pinching myself that I'm working with such an amazing bunch.
None of this would be happening without Creative Scotland and their support. This is dream come true stuff. More soon....yeeeha!

Morning! How are you all?
I have been busy putting the final touches to my album with Mad Professor - we are VERY excited to be releasing soon.
Due to recording commitments I'm only doing one gig this summer.....Campfire 4!
Set in a woodland glade within the grounds of a stunning stately home in Lewes, it's always a wonderful night. I'm honoured to be asked back for the fourth time. Get tickets fast if you're interested, as it will sell out soon.

**It's with very heavy heart that I'm writing to advise you that, following government updates on covid-19, we have no option but to cancel Reunion 2020 with immediate effect. Full refunds will be processed shortly.**

Probably won't be a huge surprise to most of you. However, I hope someone else will volunteer to organise a reunion in the very near future.

Thanks to everyone who bought tickets and those interested in attending and lastly and by no means least old boys and gals who helped in organising 2020. Michelle Dilliway, Violet Moutrage, Charles Huynh and Nick Barber πŸ‘

Nicked from a friend:

Just seen a news report about the stresses and strains of self isolation. It reported that people are going crazy from being in lock down!
It was strange, actually, because I had just been talking about this with the microwave and toaster and all of us agreed that things are getting bad. I didn't mention anything to the washing machine as she always has to put a different spin on everything, and certainly not to the fridge as he is acting cold and distant. In the end the iron calmed me down. She said everything will be fine, which surprised me because she’s usually the first one to apply unnecessary pressure and get steamed up over nothing !!! 🀭

Back in the days of tanners and bobs,
When Mothers had patience and Fathers had jobs.
When football team families wore hand me down shoes,
And T.V gave only two channels to choose.

Back in the days of three penny bits,
when schools employed nurses to search for your nits.
When snowballs were harmless; ice slides were permitted
and all of your jumpers were warm and hand knitted.

Back in the days of hot ginger beers,
when children remained so for more than six years.
When children respected what older folks said,
and pot was a thing you kept under your bed.

Back in the days of Listen with Mother,
when neighbours were friendly and talked to each other.
When cars were so rare you could play in the street.
When Doctors made house calls and Police walked the beat.

Back in the days of Milligan's Goons,
when butter was butter and songs all had tunes.
It was dumplings for dinner and trifle for tea,
and your annual break was a day by the sea.

Back in the days of Dixon's Dock Green,
Crackerjack pens and Lyons ice cream.
When children could freely wear National Health glasses,
and teachers all stood at the FRONT of their classes.

Back in the days of rocking and reeling,
when mobiles were things that you hung from the ceiling. When woodwork and pottery got taught in schools,
and everyone dreamed of a win on the pools.

Back in the days when I was a lad,
I can't help but smile for the fun that I had.
Hopscotch and roller skates; snowballs to lob.
Back in the days of tanners and bobs.

Well me old shipmates, it’s time to batten down the hatches and wait for it to pass. Challenging and difficult days lay ahead. But they do say every storm runs out of rain, just like every dark night turns into day.
On a personal note texting/messaging and chatting with friends and family have been a real comfort to me, if not therapeutic. Post a story, share your thoughts and get involved in any conversation you fancy. Keep in touch. Better times do lie ahead.
β€œIn three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life. It goes on.”

Elliott School

School History

In 1902 the School Board for London (SBL) purchased a site at Southfields on which to build a school. Three temporary buildings, opened in 1904 (following transfer of SBL to London County Council's Education Committee), housed the school until the completion of the permanent buildings in March 1905. The official opening of Southfield School, Merton Road, Wandsworth took place in May 1905 and it continued as a mixed senior school until 1910 when it became a central school, named Southfield Central School. In April 1911 it was renamed the Elliott Central School after Sir Charles Elliott (after its first chairman of managers). By 1917 around 330 former pupils were serving in the First World War, of which 53 were killed by 1918. In 1925 the two elementary schools on the Elllott site were disbanded and the central school was divided between boys' and girls' departments, each with its own head teacher. During the Second World War the Boys' School was evacuated to Woking under Mr W R Mitchell, Acting Head and the Girls' to Guildford in Surrey under Mrs Hewetson. In 1940 Elliott London Emergency School opens on part of Merton Road site under Mrs Thomas (1940-1942), Mr MacHaffie (1942-1943) and Mr S Nugent (1943-1946). In 1945 the Elliott boys and girls returned to the Merton Road site, amalgamating with the Emergency School.

Under the London County Council's London School Plan of 1947, the Boys' School was linked with Wandsworth School, sharing the same body of governors, and the Girls' School with Mayfield (Putney County) School, but both resisted absorption into the neighbouring comprehensive schools. In 1954, as the school celebrated its Jubilee, it was announced that the Elliott Central was itself to be the nucleus of a 2,000 mixed comprehensive school in the Putney Park Lane area, retaining the name Elliott, while also absorbing pupils from Huntingfield Secondary School. In 1956 the Central Boys School was closed and transferred to the new site of Elliott Comprehensive, Pullman Gardens, Putney. The school was opened by Right Honorable Hugh Gaitskell, leader of Labour Party in 1957. In 1965 the London County Council was replaced by the Greater London Council and the school came under control of the Inner London Education Authority (ILEA). In 1968 a separate Sixth Form Block was built. In 1990 the ILEA was abolished and the school came under Wandsworth Local Education Authority. In 1992 Elliott gained Grant Maintained Status and financial freedom from Wandsworth (until 1999), and its building gained Grade II listed status. In 1997 was given Language College Status. In 2012 the school converted to academy status and was renamed ARK Putney Academy.

Headmasters: Mr W Price (1904-1933); Mr D W Llewellyn (1933-); Mr W R Mitchell (1939 Acting Head); Mr S Nugent (1943-1946); Mr P G James (1946-1956 last head of Central Boys School).
Headmistresses: Mrs E M Hewetson (first headmistress of Central Girls School 1925-1949); Mrs P Williams (1949-1956 last headmistress of Central Girls School).

Comprehensive School heads: Mr M Holmes (1956-1967); Mr T Davies (1968-1974); Mr G Rospigliosi (1974-1982); Mr V T Burgess (1982-2002); Mr T Willis (2002-2005); Mrs S Farrell (2005-2009); Mrs M Peacock (2009-2010); Mr M Phillips (2010-2013).
