Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire Blood Bikes.

Staffordshire Freemasons have made a large donation to the Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire Blood Bikes (SSCBB).

The £10,500 donation will enable the charity the buy another Blood Bike which will bear a masonic name (to be decided). The bike will be handed over in February 2024.

The SSCBB was established in 2014 and covers an extensive area across the three counties. Their mission is to support the NHS by the provision of secure courier transport for any urgent medical requirements to enhance patient care; to promote a positive image of the motorcycling community and encourage safe riding standards.

Urgent deliveries are completed on the charities motorcycles by qualified advanced riders. The volunteer controllers are on 24 hour stand-by to receive urgent requests.

Blood bikes transport blood, platelets, various test samples, frozen breast milk, bone marrow, patient records and medical equipment.

The is the latest of a number of Blood Bikes bought by freemasons from the counties in the last few years.

THE LAMB SKIN
It is not ornamental, the cost is not great,
There are other things far more useful, yet truly I state,
Tho of all my possesions, there's none can compare,
With that white leather apron, which all Masons wear.

As a young lad I wondered just what it all meant,
When Dad hustled around, and so much time was spent
On shaving and dressing and looking just right,
Until Mother would say: "It's the Masons tonight."

And some winter nights she said: "What makes you go,
Way up there tonight thru the sleet and the snow,
You see the same things every month of the year."
Then Dad would reply: "Yes, I know it, my dear."

Forty years I have seen the same things, it is true.
And though they are old, they always seem new,
For the hands that I clasp, and the friends that I greet,
Seem a little bit closer each time that we meet."

Years later I stood at that very same door,
With good men and true who had entered before,
I knelt at the alter, and there I was taught
That virtue and honor can never be bought.

That the spotless white lambskin all Masons revere,
If worthily worn grows more precious each year,
That service to others brings blessings untold,
That man may be poor tho surrounded by gold.

I learned that true brotherhood flourishes there,
That enmities fade 'neath the compass and square,
That wealth and position are all thrust aside,
As there on the level men meet and abide.

So, honor the lambskin, may it always remain
Forever unblemished, and free from all stain,
And when we are called to the Great Father's love,
May we all take our place in that Lodge up above.

In a lodge, so grand and neat,
Sat a secretary, none could beat.
With quill in hand and specs on nose,
Through minutes and mails, his patience goes.

"Dear Brother John, did you get my mail?"
But silence from the inbox did prevail.
"Brother Sam, was that comma quite amiss?"
For grammar critiques, never he'd miss.

Paperwork mountain, oh so tall,
Admin tasks, they never fall.
Emails sent, to east and west,
Yet replies come from very few, at best.

Members nitpick, here and there,
"Was that spelling right? Oh dear, do take care!"
Yet every year, when elections came near,
"Who'll be the next secretary?" was the lodge's big fear.

For none could imagine, oh no, not one,
The stress, the chaos, the admin fun.
Yet through it all, with a grin and a jest,
The secretary declared, "I'm simply the best!"

"Find my successor?" he’d often quip,
But members would just give their collars a slip.
For they knew deep down, without any pretence,
A job so tough, required immense defence!

So hats off to the secretary, the lodge's true hero,
Battling grammar critics and an inbox of zero.
May your coffee be strong, and your minutes be short,
For in the Masonic world, you're the best sport!
