Stray Threads - Voice and Harp
Ali Clifton Barnard and Mark Harmer weave wonderful folk songs and harp accompaniments
Extract with a bit of audience participation from the Folk Trail
We're busy rehearsing our "What Larks" concert! Join us at 6pm on 17 February at the Gloucester Folk Trail, where we invite you into our world of endangered species, strange goings-on and beautiful original arrangements. Here's a little taste of our set!
Stray Threads performing the wonderfully poignant Coventry Carol in Temple Guiting church. Church images by Sue Wadham with other local photographers. Sung by Ali Clifton Barnard with harp and organ arrangement by Mark Harmer. This was put together during Covid, which presented its own challenges for collaboration, with the harp and organ recorded in separate places, but still, I think the result is beautiful.
This is a new song and arrangement for us, on its first public outing. Turtle Dove draws parallels between the migration of these rare birds and longing for a distant loved one. Recorded at a live concert on 7th October 2023 in Cheltenham.
We are looking forward to performing at this – we’re on at 1pm with songs related to the sea. Will it promises to be a fantastic day of music – with something for everyone. So come along and stay!
Lovely to be invited to be part of the Word Of Mouth Soiree at Balcarras School! This is our setting of Scarborough Fair, where the lovers pose challenges to each other.
Ali and I are delighted to be performing a couple of songs for this, and Ali’s choir is also taking part. Can’t wait!
Lovely concert at Stanton Guildhouse, with lots of fabulously positive comments. What an amazing place!
We recorded a couple of items during the concert, and thought you would love “Lark in the Morning”. It tells the story of the day in the life of a lark, in parallel with the day of a ploughboy and his sweetheart. Enjoy!
