Transitioning your child from the early years to school can feel daunting. We worry about their readiness and abilities.

But here's the thing: we shouldn't focus on whether they can write their names or count to 20 like their peers, rather what truly matters are the qualities that pave the way for success beyond academics—confidence, motivation, curiosity, and independence.

In childhood, every experience holds a profound significance. They even shape our emotional landscape for years to come.

Childhood experiences can influence how we cope with stress, manage emotions, and tackle life's challenges as adults.⠀

That's why growing up amidst tensions in the family, similar to a Cold War, can leave lasting marks on our child's self-esteem, trust, and relationship abilities.

But there's hope! Seeking support, embracing healthy coping skills, and adopting communication strategies can break the cycle.

Children display remarkable signs of empathy from a young age.

Just observe a room full of babies: when one cries, others often follow suit. How fascinating is that?

Babies have an innate sensitivity to emotional cues and social connections. Knowing this information can help us immensely when we try to understand their behaviours and emotions.

"It was such a better ordeal than before"

Understanding what our child is going through makes life easier for everyone.

It's like being a detective, finding out what their triggers are, or what is causing an emotional response and how we can fix it before it turns into a big problem.

By tuning into their needs and being proactive, we can avoid those meltdowns and keep things running smoothly. So try giving them a snack while you are out or a nap before you go.

A parent in that situation would likely feel a mix of guilt, regret, and concern.

1. Guilt because she unintentionally dismissed her child's complaints and caused her discomfort
2. Regret for not realizing sooner that the shoes were the wrong size, and
3. Concern for the child's well-being and how this oversight affected her.

The rage then toward something that seems "trivial" becomes something we are far more able to understand.

You could imagine how the little girl felt. When her complaints of discomfort and pain were dismissed, she probably felt frustrated, unheard, and was clearly upset.

It can be disheartening to have your concerns disregarded, especially by someone you trust like a parent or caregiver.

Sometimes, the smallest issues can reveal the deepest troubles.

A mother's rage over her child being sent home with the wrong shoes may seem trivial at first, especially to staff. But the story beneath the surface can be revealing...

If we didn't dig around, the staff would have been left confused, and the mother misunderstood.

A little more understanding can make a world of difference.

Before heading to that trip, here are a few things you can ask yourself:
1. When would be the best time to do the shopping?
2. Are there ways and means that can help my child be involved in the trip?
3. How can I keep it exciting instead of battling with me every step of the way?

Having a mental checklist of questions such as these can make tantrums more manageable and trips less stressful.

Nurturing a Continued Love for Learning – Once You Are Through the School Gates

As your child embarks on their educational journey, it's important to foster their interest in learning and create a positive association with school.
