☀️The sun has made an appearance and it finally feels like summer might be on its way…
So, here’s a reminder of what to dress your little one in at night on warmer summer nights.
Please remember this is just a guide and the best way to check whether your baby is too hot is to touch their chest or the back of their neck (their hands and feet will naturally feel cooler) and if they feel hot or clammy remove a layer.
According to our friends at the optimum room temperature for a baby is 16-20 degrees C.
Hit SAVE on this one so you can refer back to it on hotter days this summer.

…But something I don’t have when I’m with the kids all day by myself 🙈😂
🔹Warmer weather also brings with it hay fever for many people which can be miserable for those experiencing symptoms. It is estimated that 40% of children will experience hay fever.
Symptoms include itchy, watery eyes, a scratchy throat and sneezing. It can sometimes be confused with a virus. The way to tell the difference is by how long the symptoms last. If it is a virus, the symptoms should only last for a week or two. If your child has a constant runny nose and is sneezing every day for part of the year but not in the winter, it may be a sign that they are allergic to something. Symptoms can start as early as March and continue through until late September.
🔹Hay fever symptoms vary in severity and symptoms may be worse some years than others, depending on the weather conditions and the pollen count.
🔹The pollen count is usually given as part of the weather forecast during the spring and summer months. Your child’s symptoms may start at different times of the year depending on which types of pollen they are allergic to. While symptoms of hay fever may be mild, they can interfere with sleep and your child’s daily activities.
🔹To reduce your child’s exposure to pollens:
- Keep windows closed at night so pollen does not enter the house.
- Buy your child a pair of wraparound sunglasses to stop pollen entering their eyes.
- Apply vaseline around the inside of your child’s nose to trap pollen and stop it being inhaled.
- Wash your child’s hair, face and hands when they come back indoors and change their clothes.
- Do not dry clothes outside as this will pick up pollen.
- Avoid letting them play in fields or large areas of grassland.
- Use air filters to try to reduce pollen that is floating around the house.
- Keep the car windows shut when driving.
- Symptoms are usually worse first thing in the morning and early evening, particularly on days that have been warm and sunny.
🔹Many hay fever medicines are available to buy from supermarkets and pharmacies. However, these products may not always be suitable for children. Always check the product is suitable for the child you are intending to treat before buying it. If you are unsure which product is most suitable, ask your local pharmacist.
🔹If your baby ever cries inconsolably and you can’t calm them, check if it could be a hair tourniquet.
🔹A hair tourniquet, which occurs when a hair or other fibre, such as synthetic thread becomes tightly wrapped around most commonly a toe, and occasionally a finger, ge****ls, or other body parts. The hair or fibre can cut off the circulation to the appendage and damage the nerves, skin tissue and function of that body part.
🔹Hair tourniquets are rare, but it is a medical emergency that needs to be identified and treated promptly to prevent any long-term damage to the tissue.
🔹They are generally seen in infants and toddlers and who can't tell you what's wrong. If your little one becomes very upset or they're not acting themselves it is worth having a look around fingers, toes and ge****ls to make sure they do not have a hair tourniquet.
🔹Look out for swelling, redness or an indentation in the appendage and if you find something seek medical attention immediately.
SAVE this post and TAG a new mum or dad who may not have heard of them.
🔹Around 1 in 100 people in the UK have coeliac disease but it can be tricky to diagnose, particularly in children.
🔹The symptoms can vary widely and may not be specific to the condition. However, there are several signs that may indicate a child has coeliac disease and we’re talking all about them on this week’s blog.
🔹If you suspect your child may have coeliac disease, it is important to talk to your GP. They can perform tests to confirm the diagnosis and provide guidance on how to manage the condition. The only treatment for coeliac disease is a lifelong gluten-free diet, so it is important to get a proper diagnosis as early as possible.

💗Ovarian cancer can be difficult to detect early because its symptoms are often vague and can be attributed to other conditions. However, some common symptoms of ovarian cancer include:
Abdominal bloating or swelling
Pain in the abdomen or pelvis
Feeling full quickly or difficulty eating
Urinary urgency or frequency
Changes in bowel habits
Fatigue
Back pain
Menstrual irregularities
Pain during s*x
🔹It's important to note that these symptoms can be caused by other conditions as well, and having one or more of these symptoms does not necessarily mean that you have ovarian cancer. If you experience these symptoms it's important to talk to your GP.
🔹While these symptoms can be caused by a variety of conditions, it's important to rule out any potential serious health issues, including ovarian cancer.
🔹Your GP may perform a pelvic exam, imaging tests such as an ultrasound, or blood tests to determine if there is an underlying cause for your symptoms. If ovarian cancer is suspected, they may refer you to a gynaecological oncologist, who specialises in treating cancers of the reproductive system.
🔹It's important to listen to your body and seek medical attention if you are experiencing persistent or severe symptoms. Early detection and treatment can greatly improve the outcome of ovarian cancer and other health conditions.
🔹Please share this with all the women in your life so they’re aware of the symptoms too.

🔹As many as 1-in-5 new mothers experiences some type of perinatal mood and anxiety disorder (PMADs). These illnesses frequently go unnoticed and untreated, often with tragic and long-term consequences to both mother and child.
🔹It’s estimated that 7 in 10 women hide or downplay their symptoms. Without understanding, support and treatment these mental illnesses could have a devastating impact on the women affected and on their partners and families.

🛁 Squeezy bath toys that sq**rt water are fun for children but they are a perfect breeding ground for mould.
‼️ Check your bath toys and if they are black around the rim where the water comes out or if any black bits are coming out with the water they need to be thrown out.
⚠️ Children love to sq**rt them into eyes and mouths and this could be harmful for them.
👍 We recommend changing them every few weeks or for a more environmentally friendly way buy bath toys that can’t fill with water and clean them regularly.

❓Would you know how to help a child having an asthma attack?
🔹Asthma is a medical condition that affects the airways – the tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs. When someone has an asthma attack, these tubes become enflamed and narrowed, making it difficult to breathe in and out.
Someone having an asthma attack will have difficulty breathing and speaking, and may cough and wheeze. They may be very anxious and distressed as they struggle to breathe. In serious cases, their lips and finger nails may turn greyish-blue because of a lack of oxygen in their body.
🔹If a child has an asthma attack sit them up (do not lie them down) and help them to take their inhaler. They can take one or two puffs every 30 or 60 seconds up to 10 puffs.
🔹A baby or child having an asthma attack should use a spacer to help them take their medication. A spacer, like the one pictured, is a hollow cylinder that attaches to an inhaler. It can help the child to take their medication more effectively.
Call 999 if they:
• are having their first attack
• stop breathing
• are finding it difficult to talk or make a noise
• are becoming exhausted
• aren’t helped by their inhaler
• don’t have any asthma medication with them
• get worse

💙We absolutely love this idea from the brilliant and our Daisy trainers all over the UK are showing their support with ribbons on their bags.
💝The idea is that you tie a ribbon to your changing bag or handbag to show that you’re happy to give help or support to a fellow mum. It also shows that you’re open to receiving help during those tricky moments we all experience sometimes.
🎀It’s such a simple but lovely idea.
Share this with all the mums you know to get them involved.

🔹This week is World Immunisation Week, which aims to highlight and promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease.
There is no evidence of any link between vaccines and autism. This has been demonstrated in many studies, conducted across very large populations.
The 1998 study which raised concerns about a possible link between the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine and autism, was later found to be seriously flawed and fraudulent. The paper was subsequently retracted by the journal that published it, and the doctor that published it lost his medical license. Unfortunately, its publication created fear that led to dropping immunisation rates in some countries, and subsequent outbreaks of these diseases.
Your baby will have immunisations at 8, 12 and 16 weeks and again at 1 year to protect them against a range of serious infectious diseases.
🔹If you are unsure about whether or not to get your child vaccinated and want to do more research be wary of websites making false claims and make sure you only use credible sources.
🔹To help you find them, the WHO has reviewed and ‘certified’ many websites across the world that only provide information based on reliable scientific evidence and independent reviews by leading technical experts. These websites are all members of the Vaccine Safety Net.
