HMRC are reviewing the tax position of double cab pickups delivered after 1st July 2024.
It would appear that this will not affect Double cab pickups that have entered into an agreement before July 1st 2024.
This exception expires April 5th 2028 (if you lease runs past this point the tax position will change).
We are still interpreting the bulletin however we would suggest contacting your accountant for full tax advice.

Warning: there is currently a scam going around, a highly credible man calls you and claims to be from the County court collection agents (he tells you he is 20mins away) as you missed a court date some time ago and you now have a CCJ (county court judgment), the story varies from there onwards but is basically trying to scare you into paying a bill that does not exist.
First, check your own credit rating (clearscore.com will do it for free), if you have a CCJ it will show clear as day on your credit report as your credit score will be on the floor, without this CCJ nobody from County court collection agents can demand any money or goods.
Do not call the court on the number he gives you (as it’s his mate), google the correct number and call that.

Have you instructed your staff about driving into flood water? some van drivers appear to think they are driving amphibious vehicles.

05/01/2024

FLOOD WATER, before you even think about driving into any flood water remember your insurance is unlikely to pay-out for any damage.
The insurance companies may take the view that entering the water is completely under your control and any subsequent damage is your problem not theirs.
Water entering your engine will be £5,000 upwards to repair not to mention water in any electric components.

Be careful driving through water, if you splash the pedestrians, that’s now an offence and if you are identified expect a visit from the boys in blue.
For reference, this was brought to the forefront of the boys in blue attention due to a number of Richard Cranium members filming themselves doing it for social media.

XMAS Driving
Yes, we know, it’s a pain in the a** as everybody tries to get home or the annual visit to relatives.
Are you prepared? not just for the horrendous xmas jumpers but just in case you end up stuck or breakdown on the motorway for hours.
We are not talking about checking your fluid levels before setting off, or even looking to see if the tyres are still vaguely round (we hope you do all this). We are talking about keeping warm, fed and watered while stuck on the motorway.
Cars and vans are not designed to retain any heat when the engine is off and believe me, from experience they don’t and while for a short time you can keep your engine running (assuming you have not broken down) you cannot keep it running for hours on end.
A good coat, not the very fashionable one, the big one that will keep you warm. Put a hat and gloves in the pocket of this coat, it saves looking for them later.
A blanket, everybody mentions this, nobody ever puts one in the car, if you do it needs to go in a bag to stop it getting dirty in the boot of your car.
Drink, while its tempting to say any sugary drink will be ok (sugary drinks do not freeze when left in the car) you probably don’t want the kids to have a load of sugar while having nothing to do. Fill a flask with hot water and put it in the same bag as your blanket. It will not be hot when you come to drink it and it will not freeze because it’s in a flask.
Food, time to get creative, well no, you need something simple, everybody can eat and will live in the blanket bag. Individually wrapped biscuits or similar are probably the best (enough for all the car), packet or two of tick tacks etc. If you are packing for ‘just this journey’ you could also include crisps, packets of small size sweets (midget gems sort of thing) and as much as you don’t want the kids bouncing off the ceiling a bar of chocolate boosts the spirits no end. You can see where we are going with this, you pack what’s good for your family.
You are all now warm, fed and watered, somebody is bound to want to visit the toilet. Nightmare!!
If there are any bushes at the side of the motorway that’s your best bet, use the blanket to give yourself some privacy you can. No Bushes? open both the passenger doors and do what you can for privacy. The very organized will have an old Poncho (the one you used at the music festival for the same purpose) to use or shewee or similar. If you see a coach, you could try asking them to use their toilet. Packets of tissues are better than a toilet roll when leaving it in the blanket bag (the roll just gets damp).
Bin Bags, not only to put all the rubbish in, put your feet in one and pull it up. It will stop all the drafts round your legs.
Now on the right direction, have a great xmas.
Drop me a line if you need anything expanding, we have lots more hints and tips we could offer.

Water splash
We regularly send out reminders about water crossings and are still amazed at the casual approach of some to entering water of an unknown depth in a car.
However, with the ongoing rainstorms another issue has become apparent, Large Puddles.
We are not referring to the little day-to-day puddles we all see on a regular basis, we are referring to the large storm induced puddles.
While these puddles would not appear to present any challenges to a modern-day car it’s being a modern-day car that is its downfall. Under most modern-day cars they normally have ‘undertrays’ (they help with aerodynamics amounts other things) these are normally large plastic sheets moulded to fit the underside of your car, normally fixed with plastic clips.
In normal day to day usage, they just sit there doing their thing, however when you hit water fast, they tend to flex and move about. Once the plastic clips break the undertray simply hangs down (you rarely break all the clips) dragging on the floor.
If you continue to drive with it dragging on the floor it will wear out and be scrap.
It is rare for the rear bumper to be dislodged (or removed) as most have an under-shield to prevent this from happening but will depend on the speed the water is entered and depth (assuming the shield is still in place).
Similar issues can occur with the smaller metal exhaust shields, these can be somewhat more expensive to fix, and most modern cars have a sensor after the exhaust shield, this is normally clipped to the exhaust shield and having it ripped off will at best put the car into ‘safe’ mode.
Let’s not forget the good old puddle in the middle of the road, only it’s not a puddle, it’s a water filled wheel breaking Pothole.
As always, its not a case of zig zagging all over the road avoiding everything, its more a case of driving with foresight and reasonable speed when confronting a water hazard because they are not puddles, they are a hazard and should be treated accordingly.
