IWN stands with Gaza

We have been witnessing the relentless bombing and horrific massacres in Gaza for the past 4 weeks and as an organisation committed to equity and social justice, we demand of our government to stand up to Israel and put an end to the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.

The picture you see, taken on Perranporth beach, is of one of the courageous women who was on a visit to the UK with Cadfa. The women spoke at our Voices from Palestine event in March and shared their stories of what life is like under occupation. The horrors didnโ€™t start on the 7th October; they have been ongoing for over 75 years since the first ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people and mass displacement of more than 750 000 Palestinians who were forcibly expelled from their homeland losing their homes and their land, the Nakba. Palestinians continue to be displaced by Israeli settlers who also harass Palestinians daily, by evictions, lands confiscations and home demolitions.

It has been 30 days of genocide. We cannot be silent as silence is complicity.

We refute the rhetoric of โ€˜Israel has the right to protect itselfโ€™. Our government, always ready to preach on Human Rights, keeps turning a blind eye to all the human rights violations that the apartheid state of Israel is committing. Israel is breaking international law, humanitarian law, and never faces any consequence for its actions.

Mosques, churches, schools, hospitals have been flattened over the past 4 weeks. No water, no electricity, no fuel, no food, no humanitarian aid.

Over 10 000 civilians have been murdered by Israel, not killed, murdered. Over 4000 of them are children. 6 children are murdered every hour, thatโ€™s 1 child every 10 minutes.

The number of children murdered in Gaza in just 4 weeks since October 7th has surpassed the annual number of children killed in conflict zones globally since 2019. Israel cannot get away with this indiscriminate brutality.

Whatever operating hospitals that have not yet been bombed are overcrowded, they are on the brink of collapse. And there are over 5500 women expected give birth this month trapped in the conflict areas, expected to give birth without anaesthesia, in the dark, even those requiring c-section.

As a womenโ€™s organisation whose mission is to provide safe spaces for women, this news is utterly horrific, and we stand with the women of Palestine.

We call on our government and, on our leaders, to demand an end to these Israeli violations and to end the decades of colonisation which was instigated by the Balfour declaration issued by the British Government in 1917 in which it declares its support for a โ€˜national home for the Jewish peopleโ€™ in Palestine.

Since its creation, Israel incessantly breaks international law, has, and continues to commit countless acts of war crimes and their actions clearly show their intent to wipe out the Palestinian people which is the very meaning of genocide. As we saw with South Africa, we demand the dismantlement of this apartheid state, and we demand the freedom for Palestine and the right to return of Palestinian people to their homeland.

Muslims, Christians, and Jews lived peacefully side by side before the creation of Israel. This is not a religious conflict. This was an imperialistic plot of the British government which not only created but continues to support a colonialist state.

We demand that the media stops using language that dehumanises the Palestinian people. We demand that the media takes responsibility for the way they report on this war which is not only biased but can be seen to be supportive of this genocide.

We demand that Netanyahu is brought to International Criminal court to be tried for war crimes.

We demand that our government and all governments act urgently, NOW. Cut all diplomatic, financial, military, economic, with the apartheid state of Israel just as these 9 countries have done: Bolivia, Chile, Honduras, Turkey, Chad, Bahrain, Jordan, Columbia, and South Africa.

We demand that the British government stops arming Israel. We demand that the British government stops defending Israel.

As the great Nelson Mandela said: โ€œWe know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians.โ€

Enough is ENOUGH.

Call it what it is. A Genocide.
