π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦πΈπ¨βπ§βπ¦ The group photo conundrum! π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦πΈπ¨βπ§βπ¦
Group photos are a great way of documenting who was at your special day, and capturing those relationships where you may not get together all that often.
However it can also be time consuming to capture every combination, which is boring for your guests, and frustrating for you when you just want to celebrate.
I find you have guests attention for around 30mins & it takes on average about 2 mins to get people together (longer if you have a lot of children!) so try and keep your list to around 15 images if you can.
There is always time during the rest of the celebrations to capture those few extras that you want.

π§πΈπ° Why is wedding photography so expensive? π§πΈπ°
When planning your wedding you'll soon realise a photographer is likely to be one of your biggest expenses.
Now it is occasionally true that when you mention the word 'wedding' suppliers needlessly add a zero to the price. However with photography, although that might look like its happening- its really not the case because the package you receive is 10-15 times the size of a standard photo shoot.
Just look at time. The average family portrait session takes under an hour. However weddings are often 12 hour shoots, starting with the bridal preparations & going right through until the dancefloor is full! That also doesn't include the time it takes to plan your photos, meetings or discussions with you or having the engagement shoots to prepare! So no wonder wedding photography costs so much more!
The other factor when hiring a wedding photographer is that there is no reset button to your wedding day. Weddings are fast paced with lots of little details and happenings throughout the day, and it does take time & experience to capture it all. Yes, anyone can take a nice picture, but can they make you look your best, for 12 hours straight, in any situation, with changeable weather & bored grumpy kids? Probably not! That's where the professional photographer comes into their own.
Therefore wedding photography quotes may seem steep at first glance, but when you drill down into exactly what you're getting & the stress and worry the quote will save you- its actually a very good deal!
If you're not convinced with what I've written above, or want to see what we can offer you, then drop me a message below & I'll be in touch.
π§πππ©βπ¦°Should I have an engagement shoot? π§πππ©βπ¦°
Most people don't enjoy having their photo taken, and as such the engagement shoot is often overlooked.
However, for me, the engagement shoot is probably the biggest factor in getting the incredible photos you really want, on your big day.
The main point of an engagement shoot, is to get you used to being around the camera & the photographer. That way your not thinking 'What they doing now' or 'What's that for' - you're in the know & in control!
No matter how good a poker face you have, your thoughts will always show in the pictures. Do you want your pictures to be calm and relaxed, or slightly unsure & awkward???
The easiest way to achieve this is to practice.
If you don't like having your picture taken then its doubly important that you have an engagement shoot. You not only know what's going on, you can get rid of those demons niggling away at you & also see just how amazing the photographer will be able to make you look- so why worry, just enjoy!
Then you relax, your body language is more natural, your smile wider & brighter & your photos are taken to an extra level.
If you've got any questions about if an engagement shoot is right for you, then drop me a DM & I'll be happy to discuss it!

π΄π€©πΆ Play the generation game! π΄π€©πΆ
Photo booths are loved by people of all ages.
Whether young or old the lore of dressing up & creating some chaos is too strong to ignore- often with hilarious results.
Also because laughter is universal, I feel photo booths are unique, as they're the only thing I know, that can cater to all ages & interests at the same time. A DJ can only play one type of song at a time, and that's unlikely to be a favourite for every guest.
So why not play the generation game at your next party with one of our fantastic photo booths! Check out our range of booths, packages and features by visiting www.scpphotobooths.co.uk or message below with any questions!

π₯Έππ₯³Photo Booths- Dafter = Better! π₯Έππ₯³
There is a misunderstanding with photography that people donβt like their photo taken. I understand that when youβre facing a photographer putting on your fakest βcheeseβ smile, it can be uncomfortable- however when you visit a photo booth, all those issues disappear!
Photo booths arenβt designed to take amazing canvas quality images (although they can!) Theyβve built for fun. From the features, the props & the social concept of them has been designed to create a lot of laughter, and as such, the worse you look in the picture- the better the prints you get back! Thereβs also no photographer- just a computer, so when you close the curtain no one needs to see whatβs going on!
When you see a photo booth at an event, donβt be shy, come across & say Hi!
(And if you still want to stay hidden, just bury yourself in props and no one will know who you are- but youβll still be laughing! So, its WIN WIN!)

ππΈHow do you get photos you love? πΈπ
Know what you want first!
When I say it like that it sounds really simple, however you'll be amazed how many couples I speak to, that still say- 'We just want nice photos, we'll leave it up to you.'
But who's to say what's nice? Especially when it comes to having our photo taken we all have those little things we look out for to decide whether we like the picture or not, and its all subjective.
If this is your approach, then yes I can certainly produce a series of images that I think are nice, & that my previous couples have loved- but they're not you. You have different personalities & interests for a start.
It's like asking two artists to create you a masterpiece. From one you receive Monet's 'Water lilies' & from the other Munch's 'The Scream.' Both fulfilled your requirements, but with a very different approach- & I know there's only one of those styles I'd want to represent my wedding day.
This is why its so important to know what you want first, and let the photographer know in advance.
Don't be afraid to do a google search, or create a pintrest board, or a scrap book etc, to not only choose images you like, but those dream magazine style images that you'd love to try.
Turning that into reality, is where the photographer comes in..........
πΈπ§Why its important to meet your photographer π§πΈ
Last year, I photographed 2 weddings within a couple of weeks of each other with wildly different outcomes.
Couple A, found me online, sent a couple of emails, didn't want the engagement shoot, then had a meeting over zoom.
Couple B, I met the bride at a wedding fayre, had a meeting with both of them before they booked. They did the engagement shoot, before a final face to face meeting.
Overall I was very happy with both sets of results, as was couple B. Unfortunately couple A didn't agree. They didn't like the finished results, or how I operate.
At first I thought it was something I'd done, until I realised I'd shot both weddings virtually the same way- so there must be more to it.
In time, I believe it was simply that couple A & myself were on different pages.
If we'd met face to face before booking maybe we'd have realised I wasn't the right photographer for them. If we'd had the engagement shoot they would know how I operate, and I would have understood better their likes & dislikes- avoiding the unhappiness afterwards.
Basically, the moral of the story is make sure you talk to your photographer (or any supplier) if you're unsure of something. We won't get annoyed that you're asking questions- if anything I'll be encouraged that you're thinking about everything and wanting to be involved in creating your dream photos!
It's better to know too much & be over prepared, than know too little & be disappointed!!
π§ππ€©The Benefit of experience π§ππ€©
I see a lot of couples wanting a student or start up photographer to capture their wedding, as it appears to be a cheaper option.
Yes, you are likely to pay less- but is it worth it?
Generally I don't think so.
Just from looking back at my own career, I've learnt it doesn't matter how good the camera is, or how creative an eye you have, for weddings, experience will capture more of those magical moments.
Wedding ceremonies are fast paced & things only happen once, so if your photographers in the wrong place or not ready, then sorry, the moments gone.
Similarly there's a say that when getting people together for the group shots, its like 'herding cats!' With the right tricks and methods people co-operate, but when your starting out its much like chasing your tail. When I look back at my first few weddings I often wonder what I was thinking.
Now, I understand we all have to start somewhere, but if you want memories perfect for you, that you'll want to look back on with the same fondness in years to come, then experience is really worth paying the extra for.
π€¬π°π£Don't get scammed! π€¬π°π£
Thankfully 99.9% of the suppliers you'll speak to are genuine, but I was listening to an article the other day about how con crimes rise when times are harder, and ways to avoid falling for them yourself.
Initially I wasn't concentrating too hard on the article but my mind went back to a couple I met, that had fallen for a fake photographer scam, then really listened when I realised how many couples I speak to weren't doing any of the checks mentioned.
Below I wanted to mention a couple of ideas, to stop you falling into the same trap & loosing a significant proportion of your wedding budget.
1. Check out their reviews
Google & Facebook all give time stamps on their reviews, so if they suddenly have 30 new reviews in a couple of months but nothing before hand, it looks dodgey.
2. Check out their website & gallery
Scammers want the website to look convincing at first glance, but probably wont put as much effort as a genuine supplier into the back end. Things like blogs, updating galleries, social media channels are all likely to be better with a genuine supplier.
3. Speak to the supplier face to face
If you're searching online, don't just book through email- ask for a face to face meeting or zoom so you know you're talking to a genuine person & make sure you ask questions that a photographer should know (eg. what sort of style do you have etc)
4. Don't let people pressure you into buying
As with all scammers, they want to get your money as soon as possible before you realise your mistake. Most will say they need payment NOW! that's not how any of the photographers I know typically work. Yes, we don't want the discussions to drag on for weeks, but we also understand that its not a small decision & time to think is often the best thing.
Now I just want to point out, that just because the supplier you're talking to doesn't fulfill one of the above criteria that doesn't mean they're out to get you.
Just be vigilant, and if 2 or 3 of these issues flag up when talking to someone, go with your gut, delve deeper into researching the company or find someone else and save yourself the worry!
π§ππ§How to choose the correct supplier π§ππ§
Every supplier is different to each other, so which suppliers you choose for your special day, will have a impact on how close the day is to what you dreamt it to be.
If a supplier offers a large package, or a good price- but they don't suit you then you wont get the results you want, and it will cause you extra stress & worry on the day (something we could all do without!)
Check out my below tips on choosing the right suppliers- especially photographers but most of the information will be the same across all sectors.
1. Know what you're looking for!
Once you start looking for suppliers there are 100's of different packages and options to choose from as everyone does things a little differently. Be clear on what you want to start with & only look at those packages. Its easy to get seduced by a cheaper price, or amazing photos, only to realise afterwards that you missed out on the album that you really wanted.
2. Check out their style
Not all photographers photograph weddings in the same way. Some have more of a candid style, some more artistic & some more traditional. So make sure you look through their galleries & portfolios to find photos that you'd be happy to recreate. If you don't like your picture taken, but hire a photographer that gets a bit wild & for example has the bride picked up by the groomsman a lot- its going to make you uncomfortable & that comes through in the pictures.
3. Meet with them
Although matching their style is important, matching their personality is probably more so. You're likely to be around the photographer for 12hrs on the day, so make sure its someone you get along with. Nothing worse than a bossy photographer to ruin your chilled & relaxed wedding vibe. Meet with them face to face, go to wedding fayres or even a zoom call, will all help you find the one.
Once you've narrowed down what you want, the style & the personality, you'll probably find that your 100 options is now narrowed down to a handful. That will make it a lot easier to choose between, and allows you to compare like for like better.
