💡Research shows that factors like diet, exercise, sleep, stress management, social connections, and environmental exposures have a profound impact on our health and longevity. Understanding the interconnection between genetics & environment empowers us to take control of our health and well-being.

Instead of accepting our genetic fate, we can actively influence gene expression and reduce the risk of disease by making conscious choices to create long-term habits & have a healthy lifestyle!

Turmeric brings its anti-inflammatory powers, coffee perks up and brightens, while manuka honey adds a bit of luxury with its moisturizing and antibacterial properties.

❓Did you know? Sunlight is our primary source of vitamin D. When we expose our skin and eyes to sunlight, it triggers the production of Vitamin D in the body. This crucial vitamin supports bone, teeth, and muscle health, immune function, mood regulation, and helps absorb and retain calcium and phosphorus (important for bones).

Breakfast EGG-FREE omelette 😱

Morning vibes with my favourite breakfast hack: an egg-free omelette made with OGGs, my go-to plant-based egg replacement! 🌱💪 This high-protein brekkie has been my saving grace since I suddenly developed an egg allergy years ago. There's nothing like a proper runny egg or eggs and soldiers, and damn I miss them 😥, but this banging omelette is certainly filling the void for now.

So I just sautéed onions, mushrooms, and chunks of firm tofu, tossed in some dried tarragon, Celtic sea salt, and black pepper for seasoning. Topped it off with creamy avocado (a great source of healthy fats), a generous handful of fresh coriander, and a sprinkle of nutritional yeast for that extra B12 boost!

Soooo yummy and also my secret weapon for powering through busy mornings. It's quick, easy, and totally vegan, making it a win-win in my book! 🥑🌿 Who says you need eggs for a killer omelette?

⚠️MYTH BUSTER MONDAY⚠️

🚫Myth: Sweeteners are a healthier choice than sugar

✅Truth: Our bodies are more accustomed to handling sugar because it’s been used for many years. It’s better to cut down on our sugar intake as too much sugar overall isn’t good but it can also lead to diseases like type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and cancers.

Sugar substitutes present a different challenge and actually trick our bodies! When we consume sweeteners, our bodies respond by releasing insulin. 🔄

This is because the sweet taste signals the body that sugar is entering the system, and in anticipation of an increase in blood sugar levels, insulin is released to help regulate it, mimicking the response to when we eat refined carbohydrates. Unlike sugar, sweeteners are artificially made, and our bodies don't know how to handle this substance.

This deception creates a cycle similar to constantly chasing a high, making sweeteners more addictive, harmful, while causing chronic stress within us, which then ultimately leads to chronic diseases.

Postpartum Self-Care Essentials in 5 Steps

1. Restful Moments 😴 - Take those precious naps when the baby sleeps – your body and mind will thank you. A well-rested mum is a happy mum!

2. Support Circle 🤗 - Surround yourself with understanding friends and family. Offload your stresses, lean on your support, and don't forget to have a laugh in the meantime to release those endorphins!

3. Gentle Movement 🚶‍♀️ - Incorporate light exercises or calming walks into your routine. Movement boosts both mood and energy levels. Even better for getting out in nature and increasing Vitamin D intake ☀️

4. Nutrient-Rich Foods 🥗 - Nourish yourself with wholesome meals. Your body worked wonders, and it needs the nutrients to recover. A good balance of protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats. Limit sugar intake, instead opt for fruits, yoghurts, or dark chocolate to please your sweet tooth 🍫

5. Time For Yourself 🛁 - Whether it's a warm bath, face mask, or meditation. While your little one is at the centre of your world, remember to cherish moments for self-love and personal care 💖

🔄The mind, body, and soul are all interconnected and interdependent. When one is out of alignment, this can disrupt and manifest into other ailments.

✨As a Naturopathic Health Coach, I know the importance of looking at my clients as a whole rather than just addressing the issues or symptoms. For example, anxiety – it's not just about the mental struggles, but it can manifest into physical symptoms like a knot in your stomach, headaches, diarrhoea, IBS, and many other issues. By looking at the person as a whole, we can nurture and understand the underlying issues, reaching the root cause to create a holistic coaching plan that is suited to each individuals specific needs.

💡Fun Fact Friday 💡

🌍💙Blue Zones are regions around the world where people live remarkably longer, healthier lives. These areas, like Okinawa, Japan, and Sardinia, Italy, to Ikaria, Greece, Nicoya, Costa Rica, and Loma Linda, California – are characterised by unique lifestyle factors such as sense of belonging within a community, balanced nutritious diets, & daily physical activity - these are truly the epicenters of longevity

Here's some brief points about their lifestyle:

🌱 Organic home-grown produce
🍽️ Balanced diet with proteins (a lot of plant-based), carbs & healthy fats
🤝 Community bonds = Loneliness & mental health issues are near non-existent
🏋️ Daily exercise = Strong cardiovascular health, maintained muscle mass & bone density throughout their lifespan.
☀️ Vitamin D from sunlight
🥗 Fermented & antioxidant-rich foods boost the immune system

There are so many more factors that contribute to their longevity, so I highly recommend delving into Dan Buettner's book "The Blue Zones."

As promised, here are my Top 5 Fibre Foods 🌟

1.🥦Leafy Green Veggies: Dive into the goodness of Swiss chard, spinach, kale, broccoli, and cabbage! 🌿 Rich in phytonutrients, these greens kickstart digestion. Here's a tip: Eating bitter foods at the start & end of your meal gets those digestive juices flowing!

2.🍓Berries: Berrylicious - blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries! Bursting with antioxidants, not only are they great to boost your fibre intake, but your immune system will love you. 🍇🍓

3.🥫Beans & Legumes: From baked beans to chickpeas, beans are a fibre powerhouse. Did you know kidney beans are also a great source of calcium? 🧀 And lentils are packed with B vitamins! 🌱 Add variety: Black beans, pinto beans, navy beans, black-eyed peas, cannellini, & butter beans contain a variety of nutrients 🌰✨

4.🥔 Potatoes: Don't underestimate the humble spud! Sweet, red, white - especially with skins on. Ideally, organic, which reduces exposure to synthetic pesticides & increases nutrients from the soil, such as Vitamin C, B6, Potassium, Folate B9, and Niacin B3. Potatoes are rich in insoluble fibre adding bulk to your stool & sweeps out waste products.

5.🌾Whole Grains: Enjoy oats, wild rice, quinoa, Bulgar wheat, & whole grain bread! 🍞 Quinoa, a personal fave, is versatile and a plant-based complete protein - containing all the essential amino acids our bodies need to function properly. A big win for nutrition! 🌱✨

🍎 Don't forget, all fruits and veggies are fibre heroes! 🥬 Grab an apple or a handful of nuts for a snack - easy, accessible, and great for keeping your digestive system happy, especially if you have constipation. 💩

🌱 Pesto Chicken Thighs with Sautéed Kale, Bulgur Wheat, & Pomegranate Topping!

🌿 Vegan Green Pesto Sauce: Basil, garlic, raw cashews, nutritional yeast, extra-virgin olive oil, salt, pepper, and a hint of lemon.
🍚 Bulgur Wheat: Cooked to perfection.
🥬 Sautéed Kale, Peppers & Chestnut Shrooms: Vibrant and nutritious
🍗 Chicken Thighs: Golden brown and seasoned to perfection
🍅 Pomegranate Seeds: A burst of sweetness to top the bulgur.

👩‍🍳 How to:
🌿 Chuck all the vegan pesto ingredients into a blender & blitz until smooth.
🍚 Cook bulgur wheat and set aside
🥬 Sauté kale, peppers & mushrooms until tender
🍗 Cook chicken thighs until golden brown - Skin side down for that extra crispiness
🍅 Top bulgur with sautéed kale, chicken thighs, pomegranate seeds, and a generous drizzle of vegan pesto & ENJOY!
