Route in the spotlight🧗‍♀️

Double Diamond HVS 5b, Flying Butress Lundy ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Included in the latest edition of Hard Rock Double diamond is a 47mtr single pitch of climbing, that has a whole load of styles. Overhanging Boulder problem at the bottom followed by a mixture of face and crack climbing with some runouts for extra spice.

Of all the routes on Lundy that we climbed this was probably my favourite, an amazing location impeccable sustained climbing and a stunning line and feature.

At to this the effort required to get to Lundy and you have the ingredients for an amazing day out!

Its at the top end of HVS and can be downgraded to 5a with a slightly easier start but if your planing a trip to the island and its within your grade this should be high on the list.

Thanks for the first photo

Day 1 in the Dolomites a chill start so we opted for an easy route to see what the climbing is like, turns outs theres lots of loose rock and lots of questing around. Little Michelizzi provided 8 pitches of wandering and locating pegs and was a good introduction to the style here i. The Dolomites!

High up on Presten amongst a sea of granite we climbed probably one of the best routes we’ve ever done the 400mtr route weaves a line up Steep cracks, laybacks off-widths and technical slabs with every pitch delivering outstanding climbing on impeccable rock.

If you aspire to do any route this should be right at the top!

So much so I’m going to make it a route in the spotlight!

A perfect day on skye yesterday for the Inaccessible Pinnacle, the UK’s only mountain that requires you to climb a route!

Rab and Christine cruised up it and we even had time to enjoy the views from the top. A rarity!

Another great tour on Friday with a solid crew,. We did the Suprise pass loop from lake Louise, a first for me. An incredible loop with some brilliant views and great company. The skiing was average with some dust on crust making it a fun time!

Yesterday we climbed Louise Falls a route which I’ve been keen to get on since visiting Canada last year, and it really didn’t disappoint. It’s around 150mtrs in length wasn’t you in with some nice WI3 before handing you a solid WI4/5 pillar.

I led the first pitch and Chloe let the Crux which in current conditions was around WI5 and was an amazing on sight on fresh ice.

What’s amazes me the most about climbing and especially more so in winter is the relationships you build with your partners. I met Eric at a crag a few weeks ago and since then we’ve shared some cool routes together he flys back to Ontario tomorrow and I’m sure this woun’t be the last time we meet. Chloe is from South Korea, we connected through Facebook and have been climbing a few times since and have some more routes planned for the season.

I feel pretty privileged that this sport I started participating in 6 years ago has allowed me to travel the world and share amazing experiences with brilliant people!

P1- Chloe pulling around the roof on the crux
P2- me tentatively pulling though the roof
P3-Approaching the falls

P4-psyching each other up before the crux

P5-simul climbing the easier sections with Eric so much fun.

P6-Happy friends at the top another epic experience with great people!

Yesterday myself and Eric Csekey Climbed a Canadian Rockies classic Amadeus WI4 M5. It’ was a pretty full on route with both pitches challenging in their own right, I led the first M5 traverse which required a lot of concentration a couple of thin hooks and thin gear brought me to the safety of a bolt that takes you onto the slab. From the ground the slab looked to be covered in ice but was in fact covered in unconsolidated snow, I carefully made my way across to the belay and the sanctuary of a screw before bringing Eric across and handing over the lead. Eric led the ice pitch which was around 40mtrs of ice which hadunt been climbed in at least a week requiring lots of cleaning snow and suspect axe placements and was an awesome lead. We topped out abbed off and headed to the pub to celebrate. An amazing experience and. Super happy to tick this absolute classic.

P1- Eric on the ice
P2&3- Eric seconding the traverse
p4- looking very pleased at the base
P5- a view from below with another team setting across the traverse (right to left).

Working through plans A,B and C today.

Plan A: Me and Eric headed to Kanaskis to have a look at Amadeus (pic 1) it will go but not with the strong winds funnelling Down the valley.
Plan B: We chose to have a look for an easier WI3 close by after an hour of bush wracking we found the route not in condition (2nd pic)

Plan C: Dry tooling at the drive in, finally some climbing, we both flashed/ on-sighted some D5+ routes to warm up (pic 3) , and I surprised myself by on-sighting Batman begins D7 (top down view pic 4).

Although we didunt snag the Amadeus prize we had a pretty good day out regardless, it’s always good to have some backups just in case!

Nice day out at Haffners creek with Sarah, scrapped our way up some routes including my first M6+ lead.

Some great social scenes yesterday at Bear Spirit. Myself Sarah and Chloe headed up to do a few warm up laps and remember how to use tools. Kinda forgot it was a Sunday and turned up to a very busy crag but some nice chats and finding mutual friends led to a nice socialble day sharing ropes and routes.

We climbed the main flow around WI4 and quite thin, I led up the a WI3 and then we setup top ropes on some M7s and an M6. Wicked day out getting pumped and psyched for the season ahead!

A grand day out yesterday taking two of my best pals up Tryfan. We headed up a very damp little and north gully on the east face of Tryfan, said hello to Adam and Eve, before heading back down the eastern traverse to visit the Cannon.

My first time on top of the Cannon, Lizzie’s first time on Tryfan and first time roped scramble and Liams first Scramble on the Eastern side of Tryfan. Wonderful day with some good autumnal views lower down, thanks both for a great day out.

Another great route ticked off in the Avon gorge with Adam today. We climbed Clarion into Pink Wall traverse, a route with some fantastic positions and tricky rope work!

T-shirt climbing on the 1st of Rocktober in the Avon gorge.

We climbed the main cliff hard rock route Malbogies, which was very engaging. never to hard but very serious, lots of crumbly rock and tricky route finding.

After that we retreated to the much better suspension bridge where we climbed Limbo and Baby duck two great routes on solid rock with brilliant climbing.

Thanks to Anna for leading the first pitch of Malbogies and for showing me around the Avon!

A solid effort last weekend from Brian and Dave, recapping some trad skills in a very wet North Wales working for

We managed to escape the worst of the rain at Lion rock the first day, covering lots of anchor building, belaying and abseiling, the second day we re-capped some skills hiding indoors for the morning and then heading to milestone in the afternoon.
