Adaptive Personal Training
During my time working in the care sector I realised there were a lot of residents who would benefit from some form of exercise. When I took clients to the gym there were both physical and psychological barriers stopping them from participating. The reasons varied from lack of equipment, lack of qualified trainers to clients not wanting to be seen in the gym with a carer. This was 10 years ago now and there have been some changes, but when speaking to new clients I still hear the same reasons for why they have not previously exercised or felt comfortable going to a gym. There is also some very good trainers working in the gym setting, with the correct qualifications and experience to support individuals with different levels of ability. (Exercise referral qualification / Exercise with long term neurological conditions). Some gyms also offer high level GP referral classes which individuals can access via there local surgery. But these types of classes do not work for everyone, there are people who fall into the categories I mentioned above, those who at early stages of engagement do not feel confident going to a gym. It does not mean they do not want to go to the gym, but they may need time to build confidence or improve their Fitness or strength before taking the next step. Mobile Adaptive Personal trainers can help individuals transition to the next step, it may be the next step is not a gym. Maybe it is a sport or an activity, or maybe it is to help someone with their sit to stands or transfer from a chair to a bed. If you know anyone who may benefit from exercise please get in touch, even if Personal training is not the answer I am happy to signpost people in the right direction or offer advice.
