Serve the Soul Yoga
a space for souls seeking movement & zen ๐ธ
one of my favourite things about yoga is that it requires nothing but our bodies and a mat to practise on (or a towel or a nice looking patch of grass ๐ฑ)
iโm very grateful for my little travel mat iโve been carrying around Sri Lanka, allowing me to create that space for myself whenever I need
the perfect little travel kit helping me to stay grounded & centred while spending time away from home ๐
s m i l e
this was such a gorgeous day getting some shots for & myself back in the summer
this one of feels to me like pure joy in a photo
serious adulting aside, little moments of joy and play and fun can do so much for our general wellbeing
when was the last time you did something to make your inner child light up?

Dreaming of warm, outdoor savasanas without the need for multiple layers and about 167 pairs of socksโฆโ๏ธ
Although - spending the last few moments of a practice cosied up under your favourite blanket is pretty dreamy in itself if you ask me ๐
Do you have any tips or hacks to share when it comes to practicing in colder temperatures? Let me know!๐
Asana ~ Supta Baddha Konasana, Reclined Butterfly Pose

The season of sunshine-filled, outdoor yoga practices and other summertime joys is certainly drawing to a close here in Cornwall as we sink further into the autumnal months ๐
But instead of focusing on the absence of whatโs no longer here, and perhaps longing for the months ahead to pass quickly, can we shift our focus to appreciate what is here?
Can we lean into cosy moments, find sweetness in a slower pace & embrace the beauty in the flow of seasons?
Can we find new & different ways to invite the sunshine in, even when itโs not always shining up above?
What one thing are you looking forward to this autumn?
Asana ~ Garudasana, Eagle Pose
๐ท
Hi lovely people ๐ง๐ปโโ๏ธ

Connectionโจ
Itโs so easy to get a little lost in the busy day-to-day, we can often find ourselves in a place of disconnection without even realising how we got there.
But the magic part is knowing that connection is and will always be there waiting for us, we just have to carve out the time & space to plug ourselves back in again ๐

Hello new month โจ
After what's felt like a very busy and chaotic August, this breath of fresh September air couldn't be more welcome.
Endings & beginnings of months can be the perfect time to set little goals - and it's important to remember that not all goals are things you have to achieve or work ridiculously hard for.
A goal could be letting something go.
It could be taking the easier route.
It could be giving yourself a break.
Wishing everyone a sunny, peaceful & slow September ๐

Ever think about booking a 1-1 session to fine tune your yoga practice or focus on some specific postures?
1-1 sessions can be a great way to further your practice in ways you might not always be able to achieve in a group class.
With the teacher's full attention on you, you can use the session to ask questions, clarify what each body part should be doing in each pose, and even focus on smaller details like where to look in each posture (known in Sanskrit as 'drishti').
Get in touch if you feel like taking your practice to the next level ๐ง๐ปโโ๏ธ

Sometimes the most difficult part of a yoga pose isn't getting into the pose, but staying in it...
We acknowledge the building heat, increasing heart rate, our limbs beginning to shake as they work against gravity, but can we stay & breathe?
And just when our mind is telling us we can't hold a pose for any longer, can we take just one more breath?
Progress happens slowly, but it does happen...one inhale & exhale at a time โจ
Quick reminder folks! ๐ฃ
Unfortunately there's no Surf Yoga this week (15th) and the following week (22nd).
Make sure to book for Wednesday night's Strength Yoga if you still want your weekly yoga fix...Newcomers also welcome! 7pm, ยฃ8.50 in The Hub, St Merryn Playing Field ๐ง๐ปโโ๏ธ

Meditation sessions on Varkala Beach ๐ฎ๐ณ
There are lots of different ways to practice meditation these days with the help of the internet - depending on what works for you, various apps may be effective in stilling the mind and bringing you closer to your self.
If we can still the mind & body without the use of technology however, I find this to be a much more natural and beneficial way to practice ๐
Just you, your breath & the ground beneath you is likely to always make for a better meditation practice than with a phone or laptop sat beside you โจ
Although practicing yoga can be a great tool to help you feel grounded & centred amongst the busy day-to-day, itโs not for everyone.
I find Mother Nature never fails to provide a little space to take a few deep breaths & feel connected again - a good field or clifftop normally does the trick ๐พ๐
How do you connect to you?
Anjali Mudra ~ palms together in prayer ๐
Yoga Mudras are symbolic gestures made with the hands and fingers. They're commonly used in yoga and pranayama practices to enhance concentration and to facilitate the flow of energy in our energetic or 'subtle' bodies.
Anjali Mudra is one of the more easily recognisable ones. Also known as the prayer or namaste position, it's performed by placing both palms together, and is often found at the beginning and ending of a yoga class.
This Mudra helps us to centre ourselves, encouraging calmness and balance within the body. It's also a sign of devotion and respect ~ to ourselves, our practice, our teachers & the universe โจ

Adho Mukha Svanasana ~ Downward Facing Dog
Even if we've never stepped foot on a yoga mat, most of us have heard of this pose. It's one of the fundamental poses in any yoga class, and after developing our practice, it becomes a pose of rest ๐
Tip ~ ensure the spine is straight and gently pushing towards your thighs, away from your hands. For beginners, start with heels lifted and knees bent to ensure you can create this straight spine position. Over time, slowly begin to straighten the legs and drop the heels down to the ground.

๐ฃ Surf Yoga update...
Unfortunately there'll be no Surf Yoga class on the 25th July & 1st August due to football matches taking place on the St Merryn Playing Field with players using The Hub facilities.
If any of my regular surf yogis want to join Wednesday evening's Strength Yoga class for those weeks, please let me know by the Monday before.
Strength Yoga is a similar session to Surf Yoga focusing on the whole body, moving with our breath through a series of postures in a moderately paced flow ๐ช Same time 7pm ~ 8pm.
Regular Tuesday Surf Yoga classes will resume from August 8th ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ

โYoga is not about touching your toes. Itโs about what you learn on the way down.โ โจ
~ Jigar Gor
Asana ~ Uttanasana, Forward Fold
Trikonasana ~ Triangle Pose
This powerful posture hosts a number of benefits for the body, one of the main ones being stretching & building strength in the legs, especially the hamstrings. It's also a beautiful heart, chest & shoulder opener ๐
Other benefits of Trikonasana and similar poses can include reduced stress & anxiety levels and increased concentration & energy levels ๐คธ๐ผโโ๏ธ
Tip if trying this pose for the first time ~ use a block (or the thickest book you can find!) under the hand pointing down to the ground for support and to help elongate the spine.

Why do we practice yoga?
I often find people turn to the practice for lots of different reasons...
For me, I enjoy moving and using my body in a mindful way that brings both nourishment and strength.
I enjoy the mental clarity and stillness it allows me to find.
I enjoy the connection and feeling of wholeness it stimulates between all parts of my self, and between my self and the rest of the universe โจ
What draws you to yoga? Take a minute out of a busy Monday to let me know in the comments ๐
