It is never going to be easy in a classroom when you have ADHD. Trying to focus on one thing when your mind is a jumble of different ideas and distractions in and outside the classroom window or corridor pull you away.
We are a complex set of contradictory or paradoxical tendencies: a lack of focus combined with an ability to superfocus; a tendency to procrastinate combined with a skill of getting a week’s worth of work super-fast.
Frequently, we are labelled the “challenging” or “underachieving” child and it takes a few excellent teachers (in any school) to recognise what we need.
When someone understands us, we thrive and with the right kind of help we can find incredible success.
As entrepreneurs and designers, dynamic teachers and self-made millionaires; Pulitzer and Nobel prize winners; attorneys, brain surgeons, traders, and investment bankers, Academy, Emmy, and Grammy award winners
Our minds never seem to rest. Indeed, our minds are here and there and everywhere—all at once—in some dreamy state or hyper focused.
It is managing these unique set of traits that can make all the difference.
The legend that is Sean Michael Andrews. Google him. Then you will get the idea. He took the time to show me how the renowned instant handshake hypnosis is done.
I loved this so much. If you think hypnosis is weird shizzle or making you do stuff you don't want to do, it really isn't, it is about giving you the confidence to achieve what you want - it worked for me completely - and now I teach my clients.
Therapy is not about years of work, it could literally be 1 or 2 sessions to get you where you want to be. The hypnotists I am lucky to share a connection with are all about their clients and achieving their goals.
If you are stuck and want to get out of it - I was there for a long time - ❤️
My audio for relaxation is now up on samanthakemptherapy.com
Relaxation and self regulation means different things to different people; the answer is to spend a bit of time getting to know yourself.
You monitor your energy by tracking your moods, troughs and peaks. You may spend a lot of time on social media looking at how amazing everyone else seems to be, they have it all together.... Spend more time on your self, discover when you dip and feel low and emotional and when you feel at ease and in flow. That is a free tool you have which can lead to massive insights about what you need and what makes you thrive.
My posts at the moment are related to my tween diagnosis of ADHD; what I share with you here and on Insta and You Tube is how I overcame a frightening, debilitating label that led to some dark times and fractured home life. Now I share with you the tools that turned this around completely.
ADHD. I am reaching out to those of you thinking they may have/ have been diagnosed with ADHD. Welcome to this exclusive club. Let me share with you some free, actionable steps that changed my life around completely.
ADHD is not a label of difference it is a superpower. You just need to learn how to use it....
ADHD...
The first thing I remember about my "things" I displayed was that my parents were always dismayed at my "behaviour" or "outbursts" and my wonderful nanna calling me a "nasty piece of work" after I started banging my head against the wall in the toilet.
So from that point on, I felt angry, shameful and like I was obviously damaged in some way.
I had constant uneasiness, which I always describe as electrical, which made me pace up and down and feel totally distracted and unable to take anything in. I was too angry to cry most of the time and it would often end in me hitting myself in the head or literally rocking back and forth in my bedroom.
I also talked way too fast or not at all and when I did speak I had no filter so I said things that just weren't "appropriate," not rude so much as awkward and uncomfortable because I was trying to fit in.
I spent a lot of time in my bedroom being both full of electricity one minute and absolutely exhausted the next.
I had loads of ideas, but they just disappeared in the exhaustion of trying to navigate people and what I was expected to do each day and the constant noise in my head.
So then I went to this hospital.
Being taken to a place where they stick gooey plugs on your head doesn't help - that was my first inkling that I was going to have a tough journey ahead.
And when you look at your parent and they look exhausted and worried that doesn't reassure you either.
BUT you have no idea how you can change this around.
Why do you think it is that I love working with clients now?
If this resonates or if you have questions please comment below.
I don't often talk about my ADHD, when I was diagnosed it was called Hyper Kinesis. I had electrodes stuck on my head when I was 8 to see why I was such a handful at school and at home.
That's the first part.
Often told I was "mad," unteachable, and many other labels, that stuck with me for many many years. This week I will discuss what I have learned and the tools that have made all the difference.
Confidence Can Be Something You Learn, Rather Than Being Something Magic That Just Blesses A Few Of Us. Clients Can Discover The Resources They Have Within Them To Present Themselves Exactly The Way They Want To Be. Once You Know The Tools, You Start To Live It And As You Use Those Tools They Build And Build On Themselves. I Work With You To Create That Ideal Scenario. It Doesn’t Take Weeks Of Coaching, It Is Possibly Three Sessions Then You Are Good To Go.
When you think of the place where you feel at your happiest, where is it?
For some it is a beach, feeling that soft sand and hearing the waves and smelling the sea.
For others, like me, it may be the smell of horses and cactus and the mountains of Arizona.
Just for a moment, let your mind imagine that favourite place with all your senses, maybe it is something you create, maybe it is a favourite holiday...
There, you have just experienced a bit of self hypnosis. No floaty music, no pendulums, but it does boost your feel good hormones.
Have a good rest of your morning, noon or night.
I was first aware of anxiety at 13 when my dad got ill, that was the big one, but then, of course, other events happened and created more and more micro stresses so I began to feel extremely on edge, like a pressure cooker about to explode.
I was constantly fearful that more awful events were in the pipeline.
This is sometimes called intrusive thoughts and can be accompanied by various physical sensations and images.
If that is you, I was there too.
I am now working with clients to discover the tools and strategies they need to overcome these patterns until it is something they used to have but will never effect them in the same way again.

Why is it that anxiety creeps up on us and starts to run the show?
My own experience taught me that it can be a series of little things or one big thing that sets it off, and when it's off it can appear very hard to stop.
Basically, our logical minds are over ridden by our emotions and although it appears as if we will never get back a sense of happiness and wellness again, we can, even if it seems like we have been like this for years.
It doesn't have to remain that way.
My job is to work collaboratively with you so you can discover the techniques that bring you back to baseline again so you can enjoy life.

If you are at a place in your life where your work is not fulfilling,
It may be that some very simple reframes can uncover a whole new way of seeing what you do and feeling better about the skills you have.
More importantly, those nagging thoughts about what you haven't tapped into can be suddenly revealed.
You don't have to change everything to get the most out of life.
In as little as one session you can discover skills and ideas you had forgotten you had and suddenly get your fire back.
I collaborate with you to get the best out of you and it's a nice way to spend time working on your unique skills.

The thing with anxiety is quite often we try and deal with it on our own and often feel as if no one understands what we are going through.
That may mean we think we are born this way and it will never change. If that resonates, I went through that for a long time.
Now I help people by showing them what I did to reconnect, feel good, experience joy and all the emotions and feel part of everything again. So when anxiety shows up now, which has to happen as it is part of life's rich tapestry I know what to do and how to react.
Don't think you can't change quickly and dramatically. I work with you - it's insightful, revelatory and always a discovery about how much better you can feel.
Time to stop and breathe. Thanks.
Today is a good day to pull yourself back from the noise just for a moment and sit wherever you are.
And take a couple of deep breaths in and out. Then reset.
Takes about 3 minutes but has a major effect on your emotions and reactivity.
What does adrenaline do to your body?
It can motivate us to go for what we want if we harness it in the right way and we can work on that to make it work well for us.
But, it can also derail us.
I know from personal experience that too much adrenaline can lead to IBS, Migraines, Obsessive thoughts, Insomnia, eyes that feel constantly sore, lethargy, heart racing and panic attacks.
Once we understand what we need to do to regulate these thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and emotions we can get a greater understanding of how to get peace, clarity and calm - It is an amazing feeling knowing that you can get to the other side of this.
Believe me, I have been there and I know how scary it can be. When I see clients go through it now from as young as 9 years old my heart goes out but also I am able to show them exactly the tools I used.
These tools also allow you to get on with your original plans and ideals. Everyone has so much potential, this stuff just gets in the way.
Don't let it take you out, the tools are pretty easy.

Friday is here and if you are like us you find Sunday turns up way too fast.
Here is s tip I often give my clients.
It can be very insightful and actually makes you appreciate that you dont have to spend a fortune or any money at all to boost your feel good hormones.
Here is the first one - I always say Connection is key, whether it is with a pet, neighbour, family friend, family, BFF or that person who looks lonely in the queue (so incredibly important). Make it a priority to say hello and smile and care.
Number 2 - write down 10 things that you do at home that make you feel relaxed, peaceful for a few moments and off grid; examples could be a shower, a cup of tea, a book, a telephone conversation, a favourite show, a walk, a dance, a deep breath x 4, time outside at the end of the day, throwing a ball for your pet, lying on the grass and looking at the clouds, a pint with a mate, walk in the park and offloading with a friend, keepy uppies...
Make your own list of top ten and if you cant think of them ask a friend or family member that knows you better than you and they will tell you when they see you the most relaxed.
Number 3 - make a playlist of your favourite music for running, walking, dancing, stretching, faffing..
If you do it this weekend, then, when Sunday comes round and you have barely got out of the rut of the week you have a new week of things you can incorporate that take the grey dullness of "here we go again" Monday and bring in your own nuanced colour and activities.
If you have kids, get them to do it with you and then they have created their own ideas for the week.
One of mine today, making cinnamon buns with packet pizza dough with my daughter. Cost about £1.20 and a highlight of the week.
Headaches are really helped by working out where your stress lies, nutrition, habits and history.
Reflexology, including some amazing auricular and limbic reflexology, and hypnosis are excellent tools for making life a lot more comfortable and balanced.
Understanding how headaches reflect life's challenges is the best way to take back control.
If the noise gets too much, give yourself space. Given the right strategies, you can quieten down the noise and feel real peace again.
Sometimes called "alignment" but another way of saying feeling calm, confident and clear about what you want and how you want to feel.

Tomorrow is a fresh start right?
So that one thing that has been stressing you about starting the week, let it go... I mean really let it go...
And replace it with something that energises you.
If people are # # # # # you awffff then that's okay, it is their way of operating and you are never going to change that but you can change your response to them by (of all irrational insane ideas) smiling and focusing on what makes you feel good.
I promise you, it makes you feel good,
and it really annoys them 😉
Have a lovely week of letting go and smiling 😁
What do you think of when the word Hypnosis is mentioned?
Pendulums, eating weird food, hugging fire hydrants, going to sleep and not waking up.
Well, heres a thing, you can use hypnosis and self hypnosis to feel so much better.
I use hypnosis just like I use meditation because it means I can live my best life. If it's a bad day and I am struggling, I use hypnosis to discover what's really going on, see where my thoughts are, imagine how I want to be instead and challenge my limiting beliefs by remembering what I love and connect to.
Yeah, sometimes it can be a bit woo woo but if it get's me to where I want to be and im not unsettled, angry and arguing but instead I feel connected to my family and friends then it's all good.
Life's too short, embrace the best of yourself. One life. Connect to it.
How can you realistically make your life better?
Take a moment to think about simple changes that move you towards your outcome.
Add one thing that moves you forward next week.
Who is that person you think has got it together? Why? Okay then, watch how they do it, in detail.......
This is what Athletes and actors and performers do to get where they want to be.
It takes a lot of action, and it takes a bit of modelling what they do, but if you really want to do this that's what it takes.
The strategies you use are where I come in, it's also really fun, it's like a game that can lead to lots of wins.
Or you can just dream about it and stay where you are...
What do you want?
Confidence is a weird one isn't it?
We spend all our time comparing ourselves to others, wondering if we are good enough, whether we make it in terms of having the right look, personality, conversation, dress sense, "dynamic," and it's all b # # . What makes you feel good, comfortable in company, alive, contributing, loving what you do, connecting, is what get's you to that confident sense of purpose.
Want to know how to get what you already have but just didn't know it.
samanthakemptherapy.com - schedule a call and lets get down to business.
Why not use the resources you have to eliminate those anxious feelings and replace them with something that moves you towards what you always knew you wanted?
It really isn't that difficult it is just a bit of mental clarity.

One of my clients today had never experienced Reflexology before, they wanted to see if their pain and emotional well being could be helped with natural approaches instead of the proposed surgery and medication. Obviously surgery and medication can be advised but if someone has been struggling for a long time with emotional challenges and physical pain it is amazing to help them experience a different level of awareness and relaxation before or during those other solutions.
Many people are challenged with hectic schedules, endless commitments and so little time and therefore don't have the opportunity to examine alternatives.
This client today spent 90 minutes in awe of how much relaxation she could experience and how the body can communicate exactly where the imbalances are and how some simple steps could massively alleviate her condition. This could be a Reflexology session or Hypnosis because both work on the same principle of facilitating deep relaxation and connection to inner resources.
May sound a bit woo woo but its just natural basic stuff that we can all experience.
Not a lot of people know that....
I was a Visual Impairment and Complex Needs Teacher in London and that is how I got interested in Reflexology and Hypnosis. I have qualifications in visual impairment and education. I loved working with my students and they taught me many many things about overcoming trauma and abuse and chronic pain and anxiety.
They taught me how incredible the mind is and what we can do to change.
That's why I always go on about having all the resources we need within us.
When a client wants to stop smoking, it is a magical moment in their life when they take charge of their habit and decide to focus on their health and well being instead.
As soon as a client walks through my door they become a non smoker. Every person gets the time and space to examine their habit and I then carefully show them that they can quit easily and effortlessly and see the physical and mental effects within the first 24-48 hours.
As a previous smoker I was just as brainwashed as everyone else in thinking that it is well nigh impossible to just give up, The media is very good at creating images around addiction and that it takes patches or sheer will power. There is also the often touted idea that you will put on tons of weight instead.
When people come in to see me, I explain to them why they can just become a non smoker, easily with no side effects, no withdrawal, painlessly.
The first part of the session will explain how you are going to become a non smoker and the specific techniques you will use and of course we will go over what hypnosis is all about and what your expectations can be.
The second part of the session you can just sit back and relax and enjoy a wonderful experience applying what you have learned.
anxiety with a small a can creep up on you and is sometimes described as low level, and when it continues to percolate at a low level, we can find our filters about life start to change, to become a bit jaded or fearful or we lack motivation or trust. This is perfectly normal, there is just a program that has started running somewhere and it needs a bit of help.
That's where hypnotherapy and NLP can help. Once you allow yourself that space to go over what is going in, you often discover that it doesn't take much to take those filters off that aren't working for you and live your life again.
I know because I suffered with overwhelming anxiety - I trained in the therapies that helped me and am passionate about sharing that with people who are going through the same thing.
Just finished a lovely session with a young lady who has her whole future ahead of her but, up until now, the effects of anxiety have been limiting her horizons. As I often say in my posts and working with clients, you are not born this way, it is a learned behaviour due to challenges you have faced and it can be quickly and effectively eradicated. It is a collaboration between the two of us, based on you need and want for your future.
I deliver based on what my client needs using practical tools - we just discover which ones they like best and which methods makes all the difference.
Mid week wave at everyone. Do something that allows you time to be silly today at some point. If it makes you laugh it's filling your body with feel good hormones.
