It's good to talk..
Itβs time to think about getting that turkey out of the freezer!
Remember, defrost your turkey in your fridge and not in the shed, the bath, or the kitchen sink.
This is really important as defrosting your turkey at room temperature can lead to food poisoning. How? Well, the most harmful bacteria grow at temperatures above 8Β°C and thatβs before we factor in cross-contamination by having raw meat out.
Also, when you do pop it in the fridge, place it on the bottom shelf, covered and in a container that is big enough to collect any liquid that comes out during thawing.
Now defrosting something as big as a turkey can take some time, so plan ahead. A large frozen turkey can take up to 5 days to properly defrost, though a typical turkey usually takes 3-4 days.
You donβt want to be cooking a partially defrosted turkey, as that too can lead to food poisoning.
