Sand play can be so therapeutic. A lovely summary “…. transposed from the inner world to the outer world and made visible”.

Sand is a great way for children to play out different problems. Worries and fears can be expressed through telling stories in the sand which makes how they are feeling on the inside more visible.

Feeling very inspired following attending Child Parent Relationship Training over the past two days and meeting some wonderful play therapists. I’m looking forward to being able to facilitate this therapeutic training myself in the near future. Thank you to Lisa and Louise for delivering this training. Details of the course I attended below ⬇️

In play therapy, the play therapist will follow a child’s assent, they will track and paraphrase as the play unfolds. The therapist is letting the child know - I hear you, I see you, you matter.

I am an advocate for children’s play and enhancing opportunities for children. Play Wales have some fantastic videos that discuss more about the importance of play. Their play principles describe play beautifully. Play is a process that is freely chosen, personally directed and intrinsically motivated. How accurate. This is a concept that play therapists understand greatly and why we believe play is so powerful.

Although not about play therapy specifically, Play Wales videos are very informative about play and children’s right to play. See link below.

It’s and today we’re sharing our Playwork Essentials videos – a playlist of short videos to support your learning. Topics include:

🎥 The United Nations Convention on the Right of the Child
🎥 The Playwork Principles
🎥 Reflective Practice
🎥 Loose Parts Play

Today is Youth Mental Health Day.
There are so many incredible services supporting children and young people and I will share some that I am aware of below. Please feel free to add to this list.

Play Therapists are mental health professionals. You can find a local Play therapist/Creative Arts Therapist by searching the British Association of Play Therapists directory on the BAPT website

Youth mental health day helps young people to understand, recognise and take action around their own mental health. Creating awareness that can support them all year through. Play therapy is a creative way to help young people build self awareness, self confidence, self esteem, self expression, resilience and emotional intelligence around their own needs, mental health and strategies to support them.

Such a great video from Play Wales that looks at how crucial play is to children’s holistic well-being and how creative we can be with promoting opportunities for children (and for ourselves). Children are doing so much more than just playing. Play can help children to discover who they are and where life can take them and supports children to understand the world around us!

It’s great that children’s views are being sought for this survey

🗣Do you work with children or young people?…

Help spread the word about the survey – a chance for children to have their say about play and tell international leaders how they can make the world more playful.

The closing date to complete this short, anonymous survey is 6 July 2023.

Play therapy provides the safety and acceptance for children to feel able to bring all types of play into the playroom. Even though to some it may look busy, messy or chaotic. It may form part of the therapeutic growth for children.
