We’re almost at the midpoint of the year! This got me thinking about the New Year's resolutions I made. It seems like the less ambitious ones have stuck, like drinking more water and giving myself a big smile in the mirror each day to remind myself how lucky I am to have this day.

Reflecting on this, I'm thrilled to see so many of you committing to Pilates and enjoying how great it makes you feel and look;). You’ve worked hard this year, and I love seeing your progress. Happy Half Year Gang. Xx

Thank you to Friends Pilates student ‘Andrea’ who we snapped mid Banana.

The "Pilates Banana" exercise, also known as the "Banana Pose" or "Banana Stretch," targets core muscles and helps improve overall strength and flexibility. Here are some of the benefits associated with this exercise that Andrea will enjoy:

Core Strengthening - Engages and strengthens the abdominal muscles, including the obliques, promoting a stronger core.

Improved Balance - Enhances balance and stability by challenging the body's ability to maintain the position.

Flexibility - Stretches the side body, including the spine, improving overall flexibility.

Posture - Helps improve posture by strengthening the muscles that support the spine.

Coordination - Enhances coordination through controlled movements.

I’m often asked, "What's the difference between Pilates and Yoga?"

Both Pilates and yoga are low-impact exercises, but there is one important difference. When practicing yoga, you typically adopt a position and hold it, or flow into a different position. In Pilates, you adopt a position and then challenge your core by moving your arms or legs.

if you're looking to strengthen your core, improve your posture, and your overall fitness level and strength, the it’s Pilates you need. If you're looking to increase your flexibility, and find your inner peace then Yoga will help.

At Friends Pilates, we incorporate yoga poses into our warm-ups and cool-downs during our Pilates classes. This ensures that you achieve a full range of flexibility in your practice.

I'm Carolyn Arnold, an exercise specialist, fascia-focused movement practitioner, and Pilates instructor.

Numerous doctors are recommending Pilates to their patients due to their understanding of its benefits.

Pilates aids in activating the core muscles, which serve as the crucial link in human movement. These muscles, located in the abdomen, lower back, and pelvis, include the re**us abdominis, transverse abdomens, obliques, and erector spinae. They play a vital role in stabilising the spine, maintaining posture, and transferring force between the upper and lower body during movement. Strengthening and stabilising the core are essential for overall functional movement.
