Great loft and lie session today showing how both loft and lie can have a impact on optimising ball flight and changing starting line. 🏌️‍♂️

Original set up was too uptight and was not striking clean due to heel digging and flipping the face left reducing dynamic loft which produced too low launch and spin numbers. 👎🏻

Altered set up was 2* weaker loft and 2* flatter lie angle, huge difference in Club face while path stayed consistent resulting in more neutral flight, better dispersion and as well as increase in dynamic loft resulting in more optimum numbers in launch and spin and a increase of 6* angle of descent. ✅

Also nice bonus to also gain 6 yards carry on average at the same time 💪🏻🤌

🚨WHY DYNAMIC LOFT IS SO IMPORTANT!🚨

Customer came in for a iron fitting to either look at changing his shafts or was open to a whole new set.

Even though this customers angle of attack averaged around 3-4* down he produced a very high amount of dynamic loft at impact (around 37* on average for a 7 iron!) which was resulting in a very low efficiency of 1.18 and very high launch and spin.

I then explained how his current set of Titleist AP2 were just too traditional lofted and with also being a 19 handicapper also potentially not the most forgiving and even with changing shafts we wouldn’t be able to get the numbers where they need to be.

Then enter the Gen 6 0311XP into the conversation and the results were night and day! With these being a very strong lofted set at 27* for a 7 iron a staggering 7* stronger then his current set all the numbers improved across the board!

Because we managed to get his dynamic loft to a now more realistic angle of 29-30* we managed to:

Lower the Launch angle by 3* ✅
Lower the spin rate by over 1100rpm✅
Efficiency up to 1.30 ✅
Gain 11mph ball speed! 💣
22 yards increase in carry! 💣

Then the best thing was that because they gained such a huge amount of ball speed we managed to actually still increase peak height and create a very similar angle of descent so still getting maximum control!

Some people may be thinking that 27* is just too strong for a 7 iron and about 99% of the time I would agree but if your doing it for the right reasons to create a more optimum flight and not just for distance it can make a huge difference ⛳️🏌️‍♂️

Great to be supporting this 2024 season on and came down today to have a full check up of his new clubs and played around with some fairway and hybrid shafts to get the numbers more optimum and take that left side out of play 👉 ⛳️

⛳️ Weaker iron lofts doesn’t always mean shorter distances! ⛳️

Customer came in wanting a loft and lie check with his irons and straight away I noticed a lot of right to left shot shape with low launch and very low spin. After informing the customer that they needed to go weaker loft and a lot flatter lie I said there was a chance of loss of distance due to more dynamic loft being delivered at impact as lofts were getting weaker so ball speed could drop but ball flight could be improved.

Certainly not the case here!

As there lie angles were a lot off to start, as soon as we went a huge 4 Degrees flatter as well as 2* weaker loft playing 36 Degrees! (Some companies 9 irons now…🤦‍♂️) strike improved dramatically so gained a very impressive 7mph with also a lot more playable ball flight which was straighter and more consistent 🎯

📐 LIE ANGLE POST 📐

Great explanation showing how the wrong lie angle can have such a huge impact on your game!

Customer came in saying he wanted to check his loft and lie as he felt like something wasn’t quite right and was definitely the case! Initial starting lie angle on his Mizuno irons were meant to be STD Lie (61.5*) but in fact measured 61*

So we went to change the lie in each session from:
61* (Iron)
64* (Altered Loft & Lie)
65.5* (7 Iron Own)
66.5* (4th Alteration)

So his Lie Angle was 5.5* out with 7 iron and was needing were 5* upright based off Mizuno specs!

Interesting thing to see is the more upright we went:
Ball Speed Improved ✅
Better Dispersion ✅
Higher Spin Rates with Tighter deviation✅

All such key things for control with your irons!

🚨Perfect example of what can happen when your clubs are taken to a place that don’t explain the consequences of altering there irons! 🚨

Customer booked in for a Full Bag MOT saying he was struggling with his irons, he was fitted originally by his local pro at 1/2” Longer then Standard. He had taken them to another “Fitter” for just Regripping his irons but to midsize instead of standard but this “Fitter” has then said whoever fitted the irons has fitted you for wrong length and need trimming back to standard length. (Without even seeing him hit any shots…)

Customer was never once told the impact this could have on his current set up and what it can do to the swingweight and balance of the club. Here pictured is the 7 iron at a incredibly light swingweight of C4! To add even more disappoint the irons were not even trimmed correctly and most of the clubs are now shorter then standard with now strikes coming out of the toe area. Also installed very heavy grips at 77 gram to throw off the weight even more. Due to the clubs being so light he struggled to compress the irons and resulted in a very high ball flight.

Soon as I gave him a club with the exact same shaft and loft but 1/2” longer and normal swingweight (D3.5) the numbers improved quite significantly!

If your ever considering altering anything with your clubs whether it’s length, grip, shaft etc always speak to someone who you can really trust to give you the best possible advice🏌️‍♂️
