WE GROW Colour

We grow colourful & uplifting flowers from our small flower farm for any occasion 🌈🌻

We’ve been busy picking tulips today ready for the lovely Bridport Market tomorrow. We will be outside The Rope Makers on West street from 9am. Come say hello 👋🏻

Now THIS is what springs about! Picking in the sunshine 😊

Anyone else get completely bamboozled by tulip varieties and end up going a bit bonkers with bulbs?

Here are our top tips and the questions we ask ourselves when choosing what to get:

🌷We are on all the supplier mailing lists so get to hear when the preorders for bulbs starts. Normally around June/July. This means we won’t miss out on our faves 😀
We love

🌷We want to choose varieties that have different flowering times to extend the season

🌷We want to have a range of styles to make spectacular visual arrangements, we love fringed, parrot and double/peony styles

🌷We want a range of colours that all work together or look stunning on their own.

🌷We want strong stems - Gorilla have epic long and strong stems, whereas we found Katinka is shorter and slimmer and not so brilliant for gift bouquets but lovely in bowl arrangements

🌷Consider what you want them for…

🌷Some people don’t think they are worth it but we just couldn’t live without these jewel toned queens of spring 💖

We are organising this Prize Draw to raise funds for Medical Aid for Palestinians who are currently responding to the emergency situation in Gaza where the scale of the humanitarian crisis is unprecedented.

We are utterly horrified by what has been unfolding in Gaza over the past few months and as Flower Farmer Florists wanted to try and do something to raise critically needed funds to support those who so desperately need it.

We want to stress that this is about our shared humanity and that we’ve been repeatedly calling for a ceasefire, for a return of the hostages and a lifting of the siege to allow adequate humanitarian aid in.

We have some wonderful prizes generously donated by members of the Flower Farming and floristry community (along with some flower loving friends) based here in the UK.

These prizes include: visits to Flower Farms, Online Workshops, Signed Books, Dried Flower Gifts and Specialist Seeds plus many more...

Each £5 donation = 1 ticket
Multiple entries = Multiple tickets
Eg: £50 donation = 10 tickets

Each ticket gives you the chance to win one of these generous prizes.

Our wonderful contributors are tagged in the comments with all the info on the slides.
We want to say a huge thanks to them and to the wonderful .e.edwards who created our stunning illustrations! 🕊️ 🌸

Link to donate is in our Bio and Stories!

Today is the 1st of February 🌱
A shift towards spring, a shift and a step closer to those longer, lighter days.

But for me these snowdrops and the smell in the air, the sound of the birds, the glimpses of Narcissi and Hellebore are a reminder in my heart & in my bones that my mama left this world in February 2008.

I don’t often post white flowers but they are so pure and so hopeful i wanted to share them. To share that they lift my spirits and ground me in natures seasonal cycle and this supports my enduring grief.

I know grief only too well and how it can rip apart the fabric of a family, particularly when multiple members die. It takes a long time for those threads to come back together in a different but beautiful way.

Empathy is so powerful and helps us to connect with our humanity and I will continue to sow my seeds, to steward my small piece of land AND I will continue to call for a CEASEFIRE, for a just and fair solution for both the Palestinians & the Israelis and for our leaders to do what is right 🕊️🕊️🕊️

No one should have to be enduring the trauma or grief that they are facing. No one. Anywhere in the world 💔

Big LOVE x

Taking a moment to pause and soak in the wonder of the first new flowers of the season. The beautiful & hopeful Snowdrops 🤍

SO MUCH emotion about this week for so many.
Continuing worldwide atrocities, ICJ hearing, Western Govs & their utter hypocrisy & double standards, illness, grief, fog and full moon energy all mixed together makes quite the cocktail!

And today, the 27th Jan it’s Holocaust Memorial Day.
NEVER AGAIN means NEVER AGAIN for ANYONE!

My Jewish refugee family history has profoundly affected how I see and connect with the world and oppressed people everywhere and me and my family will always stand in solidarity 🤍🤍🤍

HOPE is the word I’m focusing on at the moment and we must do all we can not to lose it 🌱🌱🌱

BIG love friends x

Hello beautiful friends,

As 2023 draws to a close I’ve been reflecting on how our flower growing journey is intertwined with our local & wider community, with our shared humanity and with the core belief that ALL of us deserve to live with:
Peace
Freedom
Justice
Dignity
Equality
Solidarity

And lastly Compassion.

My hope for 2024 is that this world we live in can find compassion in abundance, because wow do we need it!
💕💕💕

Biggest love 💖💐🕊️

On this coldest of nights so far this winter season, I’m looking back at pics from a glorious late summer day captured by the oh so lovely & super talented Alice

We’ve had a flurry of new followers so thought it was high time to re-introduce ourselves 💖

Next year will be our 5th season growing sustainable cut flowers on a small scale and we are all about the COLOUR 🌈🌷

We are based in a tiny hamlet just outside Beaminster in West Dorset & we grow highly scented, seasonal blooms for markets, weddings, events, local & nationwide delivery.

For us it’s not just about the flowers but about our shared humanity & community 🌸
Our work supports the incredible refugee organisation in a variety of ways including teaching courses & donating a proportion of our profits each year 💖

You can find out more about us in the interview we gave for wonderful journal. You’ll find a link to it in our bio!

We are SO happy to have you with us on this journey 💕

Big love
Sarah & Rory x

Autumn wreaths - there’s something so wonderful about them!
Using our fave base - curly willow, we’ve started creating some lovely ones, mixing fresh foliage and our own dried blooms. Always finished with a naturally dyed silk ribbon 🧡

We will have these for sale this Saturday from 8.30 - 12pm.

We are also thinking about an autumn wreath workshop.

Who’d be up for one of those?

I’ve finally found a corner of our barn where I think I’ll be able to capture some decent pictures and explore set ups. Light is a tricky thing in this beautiful place and it’s only taken two years to begin to understand it’s ways…but I feel these things take time.

It was so lovely to welcome a lovely bride this morning and discuss flower options for her autumnal wedding and she certainly picked a good day for it! ☀️

If anyone is getting married in 2024 our diary is open and we’d love to chat with you about our colourful, JOY filled blooms for your special day 🌸🌈✨

Just send us an email, DM or visit our website. Link in Bio

It’s a wild, windy, soggy, Sunday morning so a perfect moment to share some pure autumnal yellows with you.

Let’s chat yellow. What’s the vibe here? Over our past 4 seasons of growing it comes up ALL THE TIME!

Yellow comes in many hues, some blend better than others, some more “chic” some bring pure acidic/neon wow, others just don’t seem to fit with anything else.

I love it’s strength and versatility and in me it brings joy.

But I know it really isn’t everyone’s fave…

So would love to hear your thoughts!

It’s exactly 2 years since we moved to this wondrous corner of Dorset & it feels momentous.

💛

Bank Holiday Blooms 💛🧡💕

Hope you’ve all had a lovely Bank Holiday weekend ☺️

We had a sunshine filled, sparkly 30 mins earlier this eve & these particular beauties caught my eye ✨

1. Agastache “Navajo Sunset” Gorgeous tender Perennial that we’ve grown from seed this year. LOVE her and they way she dances in bouquets. Strongly scented but I like this punchy Hyssop & she’s a keeper for sure.

2. Collarette Dahlia “Kelsie Annie Joy
Absolute fave - and a wonderful bridging flower between orange, yellow, coral and pink ✨

3. Dahlia “Jowie Nicky”
LOVE a Pompon Dahlia and again this one has beautiful shades of orangey, pinks & corals.

Going to try and make an arrangement with these tomorrow 🤩

It’s been a joy this week to work with SO MUCH COLOUR! 🌈

Not gonna lie - June can feel pretty full on at times but when the flowers are coming like they are and I get to make up bouquets filled with such beauty it makes it all worth it.

Blending colours are what we’ve tried to grow more of this year & we’ve had some successes. But we need more focals!

Thank you for providing us with some stunning Indian Summer Alstromeria 🌸💖🌈

You can find us today & tomorrow with our faithful

British Flowers Week 🌸🌸🌸

This week is a chance to shout (even louder) about the wonders & importance of British Flowers & British Flower Growers 💖
All growers work incredibly hard to bring you THE BEST Blooms so let’s celebrate them 😍

Here are just a few reasons why it’s a brilliant idea to buy British Blooms:

🌸British Flowers don’t have air miles and therefore their carbon footprint is lower.

🌸Loads of British growers don’t use pesticides & are actively nurturing the soil, pollinators & wildlife where they grow.

🌸Seasonality - the flowers you buy from a local grower will be the freshest, wonderfully scented & will be what’s abundant right now. Bring the outside inside!

🌸 You’re supporting small, local businesses

To celebrate all things COLOURFUL & FLOWERY this week we are offering 20% off all fresh flower orders on our web site.

Just use the code BRITISHFLOWERSWEEK23

Big love & Happy Monday 😍🌈
