National Search and Rescue Dog Association-Nsarda Suffolk
Non Profit
As we come to the end of this year and look to the new, we wish to thank all of our supporters, volunteers and their families. We couldn’t do what we do with out your support, we are 100% funded by donations and grants.
We think also of the many people across the country who are currently waiting for news of a missing person or are sadly coming to terms with the loss of a loved one.
However you plan to celebrate this New Year, our message is simple - Stay safe and look after each other.
Happy New Year from all at SuLSAR.
As 2022 draws to a close we look back at this year in the photos that we have taken. Hours and hours of training, attending shows to raise awareness of our work with our dogs and ongoing work and support with Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue as Search Technicians and Team Leaders on call 24/7 365 to go looking for vulnerable missing persons.
We would like to say a big thank you to all the dog’s bodies who hide for our dogs to find, to the dog supports for keeping the handlers on track and all of our families who see us disappear for hours on end most weekends. And all the other teams in the NSARDA Family.
To each and everyone best wishes for 2023….. bring it on! 🐾🐾🐾🐾
The team wishes all of our supporters a Merry Christmas! We wouldn’t be able to do the work that we do without your support. The charity relies 100% on donations and grants to be able to respond 24/7, 365 days a year.

We thought we would take minute and tell you a bit about Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue’s dog section. Nsarda Suffolk have qualified scent specific trailing dog and open area dogs we also have a number of other dogs in training to either be qualified as trailing or open area search dogs. As we are part of Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue (Sulsar) this means all are dog handlers, dog supports and bodies are all qualified search technicians and we also have members of the dog team qualified as team leaders, search operations and some also trained in Water Rescue, kayaks, bikes, drone observers and a lot more. This means we are all trained to a high standard and if there isn’t any need for a search dog, members can be deployed elsewhere. Please visit are team website page more info about us and Sulsar please visit www.sulsar.org.uk or visit https://www.facebook.com/sulsar/
The trainee dogs were out in the woods today. Our dogs have to work in a variety of environments, staying focused on their job of finding missing people. That means no chasing squirrels for Rosie, Idris and Huwal!
⚠️ TRAINING IN PROGRESS ⚠️
This evening the team will be conducting essential night training around the West Stow area. Please don’t be alarmed if you see our vehicles or team members around the area.

If you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise, but you won’t see any bears, just trainee search dog Huwal training in the glorious autumn sunshine. Once qualified he will be on call 24/7 365 days a year.
Thank you for your long and faithful service, your Majesty. Rest in Peace.
Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue is deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Second.
This year, the team was privileged in being awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service in the Platinum Jubilee year.
Suffolk Lowland Search & Rescue would like to take this opportunity to thank Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second for her service to our Country. Her family are in our thoughts at this time.
Happy International Dog Day 🐾
Here in Suffolk a lot of our search areas are on farms. Our misper is hidden in a deep ditch completely invisible until you get right up close.
Huwal has no problem picking up his scent drifting along the ditch from some distance away.
We had a brilliant day training yesterday, plenty of shady spots found for the dogs and our wonderful dogsbodies who hide for us in all weather!!
It’s super important for us to find the balance between working our dogs in all weathers for their training but keeping them safe at the same time!
Our handlers carry loads of water and soak the dogs before and after working and search areas are kept small.
A couple of weeks ago we had a training session for trainee dog Idris where he had to find a person from an article (a set of car keys) in a crowded place, ignoring all other shoppers.
We are very grateful to Tesco Stowmarket. for kindly allowing us to use the main entrance to their store.
As you can see there were a lot of distractions but Idris honed in on our misper who took this little video.
Many thanks Tesco Superstore
If you’re heading to the coast to escape the heat or give the kids a day on the beach remember a few tips to help keep your 4 legged friends safe.
Yesterday saw 3 trainee dog handlers travel to Kent to train with Kent Search & Rescue Dogs - Nsarda Kent.
Our qualified dogs are on call 24/7 so it’s really important to find a balance between working our dogs in all weathers but keeping them safe at the same time. The woods in Kent have plenty of shade for our dogs to work in and the handlers always carry lots of water.
It’s great to share training ideas.
A few images of our trainee and qualified dogs out working today on a regular training session.
We were lucky enough to be allowed to test out this new training site. It proved to be quite challenging.
It was such a great day yesterday at Suffolk Dog Day. Thank you so much for having us!
We are already looking forward to coming back next year for more waggy tails and tennis balls!
Did you or your dog meet us yesterday? Tag us in your pictures!
Today is the day! We are here at Suffolk Dog Day at Helmingham Hall.

A short but action packed search for trainee scent specific air scenting search dog Idris.
Being able to pick out a particular person in a busy place with lots of distractions is a real asset.
Big thanks to Costa Coffee Drive Thru - Stowmarket for allowing us to train at your branch, without your support we couldn’t develop these skills.

This grass seed was recently removed from trainee search dog Idris’ ear during an emergency trip to the vets. From now until September grass seeds pose a real health issue for longer or fluffy coated dogs.
If you notice ear irritation, foot licking or lameness in your dog seek professional advice, the sooner these little blighters are removed the better.

Today will be the hottest day of the year so far. It is important to remember to look after our dogs during these hot days.
Our talented mascot Hunter taking part in the fastest recall. Think he may still need some training.
The team had a fantastic day today and we now have some very tired dogs. We will post some videos over the next few days of our mascot Hunter taking part in some activities.
We’ve had a great day at , huge thanks to the team there from Wangford Veterinary Clinic and to Deans Beans for keeping us fuelled, and The Lowestoft Dog Agility Display Team for letting Hunter try the agility course 👌
