Meadowsweet Kefir 🌱🤍

When the Elderflower season comes to an end, Meadowsweet comes into its own wafting its sweet fragrance through riverbanks and grasslands.

This morning I used the frothy scented flowers to add to a second ferment of water kefir. With the recent humidity and my perhaps overly insulated kitchen, I am on a quick rotation at the moment getting through batches of varying flavours of kefir. I’ve used elderflower, redcurrants and ginger over the last month or so. Delicious.

With the added medicinal benefits of Meadowsweet for the gastrointestinal tract, on top of the probiotics in the ferment, we have a wonderful bottle of gut health support. Refreshing and hydrating too through the summer months.

Once you get started, it really is simple to do and a lot of fun trying new flavours 🌱☀️🫐🍋

Pretty pleased with these two new reads that have come into my hands over the last week.

📙 Firstly, the wonderfully researched and considered report by Marta Lopez Cifuentes, who has been working closely with myself and others across the Tower Hamlets Food Network to gather experiences from our communities; collating data and providing much needed support to help us continue to fight for a fairer food system.

🕰️ Tomorrow she will be presenting her findings at The Teviot Centre where we will convene with local residents and our charity partners at and continue to give the community a voice; learn and share locally prepared food together.

📘Secondly the latest book by the ever inspirational Patrick Holford, whose seminar tour and book launch I attended last week. If you don’t know him, I highly recommend looking up his charity where he continues to dedicate his life to his research and support in mental health and preventative medicine.

Thank you both for all this work and commitment to making change 💚

‘Movement: Moving more for our mental health’
is the theme of this year’s mental health campaign.

Stretch, Move and Breathe are three words I’ve used repeatedly in my practice over the years; to my patients, parents and friends. To raise awareness of the importance of movement seems so basic in many regards, but the sad truth is that a huge proportion of the Western world have almost forgotten how!

The last 6 weeks have tested me in my ability to move, in my patience, and all the frustration and questioning that comes along with abrupt inaction from a freak accident (yes, I was cycling again).
Without revealing the gory details, today I can say my mind is positive again. I can walk and appreciate all that my body is capable of.

Let’s support this and never take the movement of our bodies for granted.

“Home is a human right. It’s our foundation and it’s where we thrive. Yet, every day millions of people are being devastated by the housing emergency”

Shelter campaign tirelessly to fight the devastating impact the housing emergency has on people and society. By working with communities to understand the challenges they face, we strive to change the housing system from the ground up.

With just under seven weeks to go, I am back in the full swing of running the sunny tow paths of and feeling strong. Almost a year has passed since the knee-damaging cycling accident that sadly forced me to pull out of last year’s just one week before the race.

Afternoon light as the clouds turned to blue on this warm

15/03/2024

The skies did clear on this afternoon revealing in all is glory 💙

Did you know that today is ?

Too many of us have disturbed sleep patterns and inconsistencies in our daily and night time habits.

What could you do to feel more rested; to improve your energy levels and implement healthier routines?

Part of my role as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner is to encourage patients to implement changes in sleep hygiene and nervous system balance, and indeed ensuring that any possible nutrient deficiencies that could be driving these disturbances further are rectified.

I could read and write for hours about sleep but for now I will sign out to wind down on this Friday night.

Get in touch with me if you’d like to find out how I could support you:

CLIENT FEEDBACK
A reminder that our bodies do have an incredible ability to heal, and that it is possible to break out of certain mindsets and habits that hold you back.

My job is to support patients with a guided integrative approach in nutritional education and lifestyle shifts. But results like this also come from the determination and commitment from the patient themselves!

Thank you for this feedback!

Better late than never… January is nearly at a close, but here is a little snippet of what I was engrossed in at the end of 2023 !

After months of negotiations and planning, alongside my partner in passion we launched our hugely successful Organic Community Food Co-op in November in partnership with , Bridging the Gap, Sustain and Food Lives.

Our expanded partnerships and research networks have enabled subsidies on all fresh seasonal organic produce as part of a year long pilot project - investing in , advocating for policy change and fighting for a fair and just food system throughout the UK.

Our Food Co-ops run every Wednesday 10-2 and every Thursday 11-4 at the Teviot Centre.

Follow links in my stories for full review on the Bridging the Gap programme at Sustain UK, and the full publication that brings together our ethos and all we fight for as a just food charity network.

As part of the network, and with the continuous support from and , we will continue to strive for food justice and tackle food poverty throughout our communities. Everyone has the right to nutritious food 💚
