🦉 EXCITING BARN OWL NEWS!

❤️ We're thrilled to share that we've had breeding success this year, with two young barn owls spotted in a nest box we set up on one of our Root Zero farms!

📈 Here is a picture of expert volunteers from the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) carefully removing the young birds from their nest in order to ring them, which will help monitor them and gather data in the future.

🌳 We can’t wait to follow their progress in the coming months!

🤗 Can we have a moment for the ICONIC Barn Owl!

🦉 They’re one of Britain’s favourite birds and we must do everything we can to encourage them to thrive.

🌳 That's why we've placed Barn Owl boxes across our Root Zero farms in Pembrokeshire, to give them a place to breed and a second home to roost.

👏 We’re currently monitoring the boxes and will be sharing our findings very soon!

🌿 Our wonderful Pembrokeshire soil is packed full of nutrients and perfect for growing potatoes.

🌺 We do everything we can to look after it and keep it healthy, including planting cover crops.

🌻 Cover crops help to build up carbon and feed the soil with nutrients. They protect the soil during winter months and also provide a habitat for wildlife, attracting essential pollinators.

🌳 Did you know we have over 110 miles of hedgerows here on our Root Zero farms!

🦋 These act as wonderful interconnecting highways for our wildlife!

🐞 We let our extensive hedgerows grow freely and only trim them every few years in winter, which allows them to become the perfect habitat for wildlife to flourish!

🐛 A SINGLE HEDGEROW CAN SUPPORT A HUGE AMOUNT OF LIFE!

🌱 Our Pembrokeshire hedges are usually covered in shrubs, flowers, grasses and trees. That’s a whole variety of habitats for so many species!

🐝 They are vital in providing food, shelter and places to breed for pollinators, birds, reptiles, mammals and much of our favourite farmland wildlife.

Our growers work hard to preserve the soil in Pembrokeshire, minimising these carbon releases as well as making sure it’s packed full of nutrients to grow our perfect responsible spuds.🌍

What a Summer we've had at Root Zero! ☀️😎

Our potato plants LOVE the sunlight and thrive during the Summer months. Although we may have had a slightly wetter August than expected, our spuds soaked up both the gorgeous sunlight AND the extra water from our super soil! 🥔

Thanks to this our sustainable spuds are happier than ever, look how healthy our fields are looking! 💪🌱

At the stroke of midnight last night our spuds turned into pumpkins! 😲🎃

🥔 Use your sprouting spuds for some hands-on art! Don't throw your sprouting spuds away, get potato painting or create your own Mr Potato Heads.
