It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that our beloved Beck, sadly passed away last Wednesday.
For anyone who didn’t know Beck, firstly I must say that you missed out. He was the kind of person to bring a smile to the face of anyone who met him, always had a big grin on his face and a friendly atmosphere surrounding him wherever he went, we are all immensely saddened by his loss, Our deepest sympathies extend to his family and friends back home.
I first met Beck on the Newquay trip in his first year, and he immediately made an impression on me. He was exactly the type of person that we wanted to see in surf club, and very quickly, everyone in the club came to the same conclusion. He effortlessly became mates with everyone from other freshers to 4th years. He was certainly a special person, one who we will never see the like of again.
Beck’s bio on Instagram says ‘2003 ‘til infinity’, and he’s certainly right about that. Right now we are all struggling with this and it feels very raw, but while we might not be able to see it right now, Beck will stay with us all throughout our time. Every time that anyone thinks of the good times they had with him; How it seemed that every time you’d see him he had a completely different haircut to the last time no matter how short the time between meetings, how much passion he would have when he spoke to you about music, whether it was his own projects or a new band he’d started listening to, or simply just the fat grin he’d have on his face when he was getting out of the surf. Those are the good parts, and any time you think of them and smile, he remains with us all, in our minds and our actions. He will never leave us. Rest Easy Beck.

If you’re unfamiliar with what movember is, it’s simply a month of the year where moustaches are grown to raise awareness for men’s health issues. Issues such as prostate and testicular cancer, men’s mental health and men’s su***de are a few examples.

DO YOU WANNA BE ON COMMITTEE? The time has come to decide whether you want to be on the committee of the best society in Manchester!

We know this year you didn’t get to experience UMSC at its finest, but we still have some fun things in store before we bid you all a farewell as your committee this year, including day trips, a committee handover summer trip and super fun socials including glorious pints in the sunshine and that oh so awaited club night!!! The best way to make up for missing out this year is to throw yourself right into a role on the committee (it’ll be the best thing you do, we promise!).

So, start thinking about which role is best for you, you have until the 29th of April to write up your manifestos, shoot a short video speech and send us a picture of your beautiful face and get them sent to [email protected]

Hello you beautiful people, it’s been a while but we have very exciting news for you, new LIMITED EDITION MERCH is on its way and you aren’t gonna want to miss this, they are sick! There is limited stock so make sure you are on the ball with this one! We have teamed up with Manchester students who have designed and illustrated the new pieces! ALL PROFITS we make are going to two different charities that especially in these times we feel are very important and close to our hearts! ❤️
The first one is back on track , which is a Manchester based charity that enables disadvantaged adults to make lasting, positive changes in their lives. They work with people who are going through recovery or rehabilitation, having been through problems of homelessness, mental health, drugs and alcohol or offending!
The second charity that the proceeds will be split between is Manchester mind, they have been supporting better mental health for over 30 years adjusting their services to ensure they can support people of Manchester during these extremely difficult times!
We want to do our bit as a club who holds issues of mental health and positive well being very close to our hearts to donate all proceeds of the new merch which will drop very soon to these great causes!
Also all members will be receiving an email very soon regarding all things membership, we know this years been very slow and not what anybody wanted but there’s light at the end of the tunnel and we will be seeing all of you very soon once restrictions are lifted, so prepare to make up for a years worth of nothing v v soon!

A portion of all our merch sales are being donated to Refuge and Manchester Central Foodbank - we’ve reached the £100 mark already so thank you so much to everyone that’s donated so far 🤩

Refuge have said that 1.6 million women experienced domestic abuse in 2019 with self isolation potentially causing this figure to increase drastically for 2020 and Manchester Central Foodbank have seen the amount of people using them in April 2020 has increased by 227% compared to April 2019!!!! These two amazing charities need as much support as possible in this difficult time🌻
