There are some moments an author will never forget ...
Having the final draft of your book done.
Holding the first copy of your book in your hands; and
Realising that it’s on you to shift the many, many copies of your book now cluttering up your home!
Because, these days, it doesn’t matter whether you’re self-published or you have a book deal … the book marketing will fall squarely on your shoulders.
The days when publishers organised book tours and signings are long gone … just like most of the book shops and radio stations that used to host them.
So … after your book launch party has happened, after the initial flurry of interest has died down, and you’ve exhausted your existing network … what then?
What’s the best strategy to get people finding out about you and your book?
Well, it’s the same as it was in the good old days … you do a book tour.
It’s just that there are different platforms for you to engage people on today, and one of the best ones is podcasts.
I don’t mean creating a podcast, which has some start up obstacles, I mean becoming a podcast guest.
Here are some of the reasons why it's such a great strategy for promoting your book:
· It’s low friction, all you need is you, your message, and a half decent mike.
· There’s no regular commitment, you do guest spots when you want.
· Unlike social media posts with a shelf life, podcast audiences keep on growing long after you’ve done the interview.
· You’ll reach a much broader audience because you can angle your message for podcasts across so many niches.
· The podcast host will also be promoting your show.
And … it works!
I’ve interviewed so many authors on my podcast over the years, and whether they are big names, or first-time authors, I always get my listeners telling me they bought the book.
I’ve also felt the power of podcast guesting myself.
Catherine Weetman is a circular economy expert and author, one of my clients and biggest advocates, (as I am of her work). I remember a little while ago asking how she found me, and this is what she said:
“I heard you on Graham Allcott’s, ‘Beyond Busy’ podcast, that led me to your podcast and website and then I signed up for your Snackable Story Challenge Course from there.”
Catherine ended up working with me to get her talk done, and has since recommended my masterclass and programme to other authors in her group, who have gone on to work with me on their talk.
From that one guest spot, I reached a whole new audience and made multiple sales.
That’s an example of why podcast guest spots have become the number one marketing tool for many authors and speakers.
Next week, I start working with a new group and the outcome is simple, get booked on podcasts that your target audience listens to and make the most of the opportunity.
If you’d like to join us, either pop a 'yes' below or message me, and I'll get you all the details.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from writing a couple of non-fiction books is...
.. if you aren’t strategically marketing them, it will be an uphill struggle to become a profitable author, making book sales, and winning any follow on clients for your services or programmes.
The marketing initiatives don’t need to be huge; they just need to be intentional, and consistently placing you in front of your ideal audience aka your ideal clients.
And that’s why I'm really excited to share about this amazing resource that has been put together by a range of experts, specifically for authors.
It’s called The Profitable Author Toolkit, and it’s an incredible online buffet of 20 author focussed profit building resources. Together, this bundle is worth over $5,000, but you can get it for FREE for a limited time.
You’ll get to choose gifts from the world’s top book marketing experts, and these include effective, proven methods to boost your visibility, credibility and authority - all the reasons you wrote your book- so you attract thousands of subscribers, and enroll great clients online.
And I’m honoured to be included as a contributor. When you register you’ll get access to my gift: a live, online masterclass on how to Turn Your Book into a Profitable Talk in 6 Steps.

Most of my clients are mission driven rather than solely profit driven.
They have a big idea they want to share in order to effect positive change in people, organizations, and the wider world.
They want their talk to ignite the desire for change, and create a burning platform, so that the audience takes action to buy the books, courses or services that they have developed which really make the change happen.
But many of them hate the idea of ‘selling’.
And often in the context in which they are speaking, it’s not appropriate to make a ‘pitch’.
So … when they speak, they educate their audience, offer practical tools and tips, and maybe even do it all in an engaging way.
But no transformation takes place … and no-one takes action.
Sure they might get some compliments, but they don’t get any conversions.
Which is what used to happen to me, when I started my business the first time around.
Back then, I had huge baggage around being ‘salesy’ from being conned out of all the money I’d saved up for my Mum’s Christmas present as a child (if you want to hear the full story - I’ll pop a link to a video in the comments)
And I made a huge assumption!
I was a Betty Big Boots, and assumed that with my background in stand up comedy and performance, people would be queuing up to work with me after I spoke.
But they didn’t!
People said nice things, and told me how interesting and entertaining my talk was, but rarely did I get people taking the next step to work with me.
I ended up having to go back into a corporate job, but I was determined to discover how to solve the problem.
I set out on a marketing, sales and influencing odyssey and discovered how to connect with the audience in the right way to sell the idea and get people into action.
And when I blended this stuff with my business, storytelling and performance tools, everything changed. My talks started to get results - anywhere from 10% conversion on a bad day, to 100% on a good day.
And of course - that led to my own mission. To show caring, authentic, change-makers that it is possible to create a captivating, entertaining, client winning talk in a way that is aligned to their values and no-one feels pitched to.
And that is what I’ll be doing in my talk blueprint masterclass on 19th September.
I’ll be walking you through the six ingredients you need to develop a game changing signature talk that sells without selling - and you’ll create the outline for your own talk in the session.
So, if you are an author, coach or consultant who wants to have a talk that they are excited to share, and gets results then this will be perfect for you, and you can book your place here: www.saraharcher.co.uk/masterclass
